IKEA SY Iron on Hemming Strip
HOW TO USE
SY iron-on hemming strip makes it easy to shorten curtains to the right length for your windows.
- Measure how long you want your curtains to be.
- Add a few centimeters to allow for any shrinkage in the wash. The exact amount of shrinkage is shown on the package. For example, if you want your curtains to be 2 meters long and the shrinkage is 4%, calculate as follows 2 m x 1.04 = 2.08 m. In other words you need to allow an extra 8 cm.
- Lay the curtain with the reverse side facing upwards. Fold up the hem (but don’t put the hemming strip in place yet!) and iron the fold.
- Now place the hemming strip inside the fold. Cover the fold with a damp cloth.
- Iron with a pressing action until the fabric is dry. Repeat on the entire fold.
- Allow to cool before checking. Then cut away any unwanted fabric and the curtain is ready!
- For heavier fabrics, lay two hemming strips side by side for a stronger bond.
If the hemming strip comes loose in the wash, simply iron it back in place again using the same method as above.
