Upphöja is a complete, self-contained airbag system that is to be used to elevate the legs independent of an in-house caregiver. The system can be completely deflated to flat eliminating the need to lift legs over stacks of pillows or solid foam. By using the included remote the patient can control elevation height and firmness without assistance and at any time.

Proper Positioning
Elevation of the lower extremities above the heart allows gravity to create a
flow of collected fluids into the body cavity. The efficiency of this flow is
determined by the elevation of the legs (“toes above the nose”) and the bend
in the knee. Flow is disrupted if the knees are locked straight or bent at 90°
as shown below. The best position is a slight bend in the knees, about 30″. In
most cases, this is best achieved by placing the middle of the Upphöja under
the legs halfway between the ankle and knee. Positioning the bag to close to
the ankle will tend to promote a straight knee and pulling in too close to the
hip area will promote a 90° bend. Both of these positions will discourage flow
of fluids. Note where the best positioning of the Upphöja under your legs is
so that you can reproduce this positioning when you move from place to place.
In addition, the geometry is symmetrical so the product can be used with the
blower on either the right or left side.
If you need to use the product for long periods or are prone to wounds adjust
the inflation so it is softer under the legs. Elevation on a fully inflated,
firm pillow for long periods may contribute to wounds.
The Remote
There ae 3 buttons on the remote, “INFLATE”, “ADJUST”, and “DEFLATE”. You will notice that the blower is activated when pressing the inflate and deflate buttons. It should take les than 15 seconds to fill from flat or empty from full. With the adjust button you can make controlled deflation ad- adjustments to height and firmness under the legs as desired. All remote buttons are active as long as they are depressed and deactivated when they are not pressed. There is no reason to press any buttons longer than 20 seconds while in use. When deflating to empty note that the blower is inside the airbag on one side. You may need to move your legs slightly to one side when in the deflated position, so you are not resting your legs on the blower. When not in use keep the remote in a place where you not lie or fall asleep against it.
Portability
The Upphoja system is light and designed to be portable and easily moved from
bed to couch, etc. The system can be rolled for ease of carrying. Do not carry
using the remote or power cord. When moving the unit, be sure the power cord
and remote are not hanging out where they can be a tripping hazard. You can
put the power cord and remote into the roll to contain them when moving the
unit. When the used, make sure the input port is clear of ob- sturctions and
able to intake air. The shape of the unit is symmetrical so it can be used
with the blower on either side. The Upphoja is convenient to pack for travel.
Versatility
Although Upphoja is designed for lifting both legs, it can also be used to
lift an am on a couch or in bed. Or turn the unit length-wise and lift just
one leg hip to the ankle as shown. It has enough lift to elevate your leg(s)
with a boot or cast. Because it is adjustable the Upphoja is designed to be a
“one size fits all” product.
