USE
- The Wingman MH is a mechanical-advantage device for load lifting and releasing.
- This product is intended to be used by competent persons familiar with the use of pulleys for lifting.
- Use only with supplied rope.
- To prolong the life of this product, care in use is necessary. Avoid rubbing against abrasive surfaces and sharp edges.
- The Wingman MH is not certified for fall arrest, suspension, or positioning of a human. Use only for moving non-human loads.
COMPATIBILITY
- Always verify the Wingman MH is compatible with the other components of your system.
- Any equipment used with the pulleys (such as anchors and locking connectors) must conform to applicable standards and/or regulations.
SAFETY
- In the event that the Wingman MH is shock-loaded, it must be removed from service and destroyed.
INSPECTION
- Verify all pieces of equipment in the system are in good working condition and the product is correctly positioned while in use. Check the condition of the product before and after each use. Remove from service if there is any doubt about safety and serviceability.
- Visually and by touch, inspect the pulley for cracks, distortion, corrosion, scratches, gouges, sharp edges, or rough areas that might abrade a rope, or alter the normal rotation of the sheave(s) or the normal action of the release handle.
- Verify the sheaves turn freely.
- Verify all markings and labels are present and legible.
- An in-depth inspection must be carried out at least every 12 months and more frequently if the pulley is in frequent and intense use.
OPERATION
- Function test – Before each use, verify the device is working properly. Connect one end of the Wingman MH to an anchor with a shackle, apply a load to the other end, and verify the rope is locked at the cam block. Grip the haul/tail end of the rope with one hand and gently open the release handle with the other hand, allowing the rope to pass through the cam block and lower the load. Gradually close the release handle and verify the rope is locked by the cam block. With a moderate load on the system, open the release handle and release it. Verify the release handle snaps closed. Pull on the haul/tail end of the rope and verify the sheaves turn freely and you hear a clicking sound.
- Lowering – To lower a load, carefully open the release handle while securely tailing the haul/tail end of the rope. Control the speed of descent by a combination of modulating the release handle and hand grip on the rope. To stop lowering, gradually close the release handle until the cam block locks the rope. Releasing the handle completely will immediately stop the lowering action.
- Remote Release – To use the remote release, tie a stopper knot in the end of the remote release cord. Thread the other end through the hole in the release handle.
Connect the Wingman MH to an anchor using a shackle, then connect the other end to the load. Thread the remote release cord through the upper shackle. While firmly gripping the haul/tail end of the rope, pull on the remote release cord to actuate the release handle. Using both hands on the rope while simultaneously actuating the release handle, gradually relax your grip on the rope so that it begins to slide through your hands. Modulate the descent speed of the load by a combination of adjusting your grip on the rope and moving the remote release cord up or down.
NOTE: Keeping the same hand on both the rope and the cord ensures that if your hand travels closer to the anchor point the remote release eases and the lowering stops.
Hold the remote release handle and haul/tail end of the rope together to control the rate of descent. To stop lowering, ease pressure on the handle to close and lock it. Releasing the handle completely immediately stops the lowering action. Limit the load to 300 lbs when using a remote release.
EXAMPLE
- Raising – Raise by hauling hand over hand.
- Parking while raising or lowering – When stopped (hand leaves haul/tail rope), verify the load is secured using a blocking hitch finished with a security knot. Do not secure to or interfere with the releasing handle.
IMPORTANT- When finished using the Wingman MH system, carefully pull the two pulleys together to prevent tangles during transport and storage. To pull the mechanical advantage system together, secure one end of the WingMan MH and keep tension on the swivel eye of the other end while pulling the hauling part.
MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING
- Do not disassemble the Wingman MH. If soiled or exposed to saltwater, rinse in clean warm water (maximum temperature of 25°C) with non-detergent at appropriate dilution (pH range 5.5–8.5), and thoroughly rinse. When the equipment becomes wet, it should be allowed to dry naturally and be kept away from direct heat. Light surface corrosion may be removed with a wire brush (no power tools). Remove from service if corrosion is heavy. Do not use lubrication of any kind on the pulleys or releasing handles. Flush and dry as stated above. Dry away from solvents and corrosive materials. Important: do not put in a bag or sealed container until dry.
