INSTRUCTION MANUAL

Congratulations to the purchase of this Power Dynamics product. Please read this manual thoroughly prior to using the unit in order to benefit fully from all features.
Read the manual prior to using the unit. Follow the instructions in order not to invalidate the warranty. Take all precautions to avoid fire and/or electrical shock. Repairs must only be carried out by a qualified technician in order to avoid electrical shock. Keep the manual for future reference.

  • Prior to using the unit, please ask advice from a specialist. When the unit is switched on for the first time, some smell may occur. This is normal and will disappear after a while.
  • The unit contains voltage carrying parts. Therefore do NOT open the housing.
  • Do not place metal objects or pour liquids into the unit This may cause electrical shock and malfunction.
  • Do not place the unit near heat sources such as radiators, etc. Do not place the unit on a vibrating surface. Do not cover the ventilation holes.
  • The unit is not suitable for continuous use.
  • Be careful with the mains lead and do not damage it. A faulty or damaged mains lead can cause electrical shock and malfunction.
  • When unplugging the unit from a mains outlet, always pull the plug, never the lead.
  • Do not plug or unplug the unit with wet hands.
  • If the plug and/or the mains lead are damaged, they need to be replaced by a qualified technician.
  • If the unit is damaged to such an extent that internal parts are visible, do NOT plug the unit into a mains outlet and DO NOT switch the unit on. Contact your dealer.
  • To avoid fire and shock hazard, do not expose the unit to rain and moisture.
  • All repairs should be carried out by a qualified technician only.
  • Connect the unit to an earthed mains outlet (220-240Vac/50Hz) protected by a 10-16A fuse.

  • Do not use chemicals to clean the unit. They damage the varnish. Only clean the unit with a dry cloth.
  • Keep away from electronic equipment that may cause interference.
  • Only use original spares for repairs, otherwise serious damage and/or dangerous radiation may occur.
  • Switch the unit off prior to unplugging it from the mains and/or other equipment. Unplug all leads and cables prior to moving the unit.
  • Make sure that the mains lead cannot be damaged when people walk on it. Check the mains lead before every use for damages and faults!
  • The mains voltage is 220-240Vac/50Hz. Check if power outlet match. If you travel, make sure that the mains voltage of the country is suitable for this unit.
  • Keep the original packing material so that you can transport the unit in safe conditions.

UNPACKING INSTRUCTION

CAUTION! Carefully unpack the box upon receipt. Check the contents to ensure that all parts are present and have been received in good condition. Notify the shipper immediately and retain packaging material if any parts appear damaged from shipping or the package itself shows signs of mishandling. Save the package and all packaging materials. If the product must be returned, it is important that the product is returned in the original factory box and packaging. If the device has been exposed to drastic temperature fluctuation (e.g. after transportation), do not switch it on immediately. The arising condensation water might damage your device. Leave the device switched off until it has reached room temperature.

POWER SUPPLY
The label on the back/underside of the product indicates the mains voltage to which it must be connected. Check that the mains voltage corresponds to this. Any other voltage than the one indicated may cause irreparable damage to the unit. The unit must also be connected directly to the mains voltage and no dimmer or adjustable power supply may be used.

Always connect the device to a protected circuit (circuit breaker or fuse). Make sure the device has an appropriate electrical ground to avoid the risk of electrocution or fire.

FRONT PANEL

  1. MICROPHONE INPUT
    Balanced combo-jack microphone inputs, supporting both XLR and 6.3mm jack.

  2. ASSIGNMENT 1-3
    Press to assign the microphone channel to a specific master channel (1-3).

  3. MICROPHONE VOLUME
    Rotate to adjust the microphone volume level.

  4. LED INDICATORS
    LED level indicators, showing the microphone channel level withina range of -20db to +9db.

  5. EQUALIZER
    Three-way equalizer for microphone channels (HI, MID, LOW).

  6. ON AIR
    Press to turn on/off the microphone. When turned on, the LED will be illuminated.

  7. DB LEVEL
    Rotate to adjust the talkover level.

  8. TIME
    Rotate to adjust the talkover response time.

  9. TALKOVER
    Press to turn talkover on/off. When turned on, the LED will be illuminated.
    When talkover is turned on, the volume of channels 1-5 will be lowered when microphone input is detected.

  10. INPUT SELECTOR
    Press to select input source. The LED of the corresponding input source will be illuminated when turned on.

  11. ASSIGNMENT 1-3
    Press to assign the corresponding channel to a specific master channel (1-3).

  12. CUE
    Press to allow for prefader listening of the input channel ahead of the respective channel fader via headphones. When turned on, the LED will be illuminated to indicate that the channel is being monitored.

  13. FADER
    Slide to adjust the volume level of the corresponding channel signal. Use these faders to adjust the balance between the various channels.

  14. LED INDICATORS
    LED level indicators, showing the channel level within a range of -20db to + 9db.

  15. VOLUME
    Rotate to adjust the volume level of main channel 1-3.

  16. EQUALIZER
    Three-way equalizer for master channels (HI, MID, LOW).

  17. REC ASSIGNMENT 1-3
    Press to assign a master channel (1-3) to both recording outputs.

  18. REC OUTPUT
    RCA stereo output for recording purposes. The recording level is independent of the output level controls.

  19. CUE/PGM
    Rotate to select the monitoring signal for the headphones output.

    • In CUE position, the prefader level of the input channel of which the CUE button is pressed is monitored.
    • In PGM position, the currently playing music program is monitored.
    • In middle position, a mixed signal is both is monitored.
  20. HEADPHONES VOLUME
    Rotate to adjust the headphones volume output.

  21. HEADPHONES OUTPUT
    6.3mm jack for connecting stereo headphones.

REAR PANEL

  1. ON/OFF
    Flip switch to turn the device on/off.

  2. POWER INPUT
    Socket for plugging in the supplied power cord.

  3. REC OUTPUT
    RCA stereo output for recording purposes. The recording level is independent of the output level controls.

  4. MASTER OUTPUT
    Master channel XLR and RCA stereo outputs for connecting an amplifier or other line level inputs. Use the corresponding slide selector to switch between 0.75V and 1.5V.

  5. LINE INPUT
    RCA stereo line input for connecting devices with line level output.

  6. TRIM / GAIN
    Trimming controls for adjusting the corresponding channels’ input amplification.

  7. PHONO/AUX INPUT
    RCA stereo input connectors. Set the selector switch to correct input (PHONO or AUX).

  8. GND
    Ground clamping screws for turntable usage.

OPERATION

INPUT

  1. Set all pre-amp trim controls to the middle position by use of an appropriate tool e.g. a screwdriver.
  2. Set all equalizer/tone controls to middle position.
  3. Select the desired input by use of the input selector.
  4. Feed an audio signal to the connected channel.
  5. Increase volume by sliding up the corresponding channel fader to about 2/3 of its maximum output.
  6. Choose to direct the signal to one of three master channels.
  7. Increase volume of the master channel to about 2/3 of its maximum output.
    Control the level of the input channel with the corresponding gain/volume control. Make sure that the average level hovers around the 0dB mark. If the red LEDs are regularly illuminated, the channel is overloaded.

OUTPUT

  1. Use the assignment buttons to assign the input channel(s) to (one of) three master channels.
  2. When mixing several audio sources to one master channel, adjust the volume ratio of the audio sources by sliding the channel faders or level controls of the corresponding channels.
  3. .Keep an eye on the LED level indicators and adjust the master output by rotating the master volume control. Again, make sure that the average level hovers around the 0dB mark. If the red LEDs are regularly illuminated, the channel is being overloaded.
  4. Use the equalizer knobs to adjust he high-,mid- and low frequencies.
  5. The signal that is fed to the recording outputs, is not affected by the master controls.

MICROPHONE

  1. Turn on a connected microphone by pressing the “on air” button. Use the assignment switches to redirect the signal to one of the master channels.
  2. To increase the audibility of speech whilst music is playing, press the “talk over” button. When activated, the volume levels of channels 1-5 will be dimmed when speech is detected. Use the db and time controls to adjust the volume level and response time. Press the “talk over” button again to switch off this function.

CUE
The cue function allows to monitor channel 1-5 via headphones (prefader- listening), even when the channel fader(s) is set to minimum value.

  1. To allow for prefader listening, press the channels’ “cue” button and rotate the cue/pgm control to the left (“cue”) position. To monitor the current music program before the output controls, rotate the cue/pgm control to right (“pgm”) position and select the desired master channel by pressing rec select 1-3.
  2. Adjust the desired headphone level by rotating the headphone volume.
