CONNECTIONS

AC CONNECTION

The Obsidian Control Systems NETRON EN12i is rated 100-240V. Do not connect it to power outside this range. Damage resulting from incorrect connection is not covered under warranty.

North America: A cable with a NEMA 15-5P plug is provided for use with the EN12i in the USA and Canada. This approved cable must be used in North America. Rest of the world: The provided cable is not fitted with a country- specific plug. Install only a plug that meets local and or national electrical codes and is suitable for the country’s specific requirements. A 3-prong grounded-type (earthed type) plug must be installed following the plug manufacturer’s instructions

ETHERNET DATA CONNECTIONS

The Ethernet cable is connected on the rear of the gateway into the ports labeled A and B, and on the front in the port labeled C. Devices can be daisy chained, but it is recommended not to exceed 10 Netron devices in one chain. Because these devices use locking RJ45 connectors, and the use of locking RJ45 ethernet cables is recommended, any RJ45 connector is suitable. The Ethernet connection is also used to connect a computer to the Netron device for remote configuration via a web browser. To access the web interface, simply enter the IP address shown in the display in any web browser connected to the device. Information about the web access can be found in the manual

FRONT DMX CONNECTION:

The front DMX Output connection is a 5pin female XLR; pin 1 to shield, pin 2 to cold (-), and pin 3 to hot (+). Pins 4 and 5 are not used.

Carefully connect DMX cable to the DMX port

REAR DMX CONNECTOR PLATES:

RJ45 DMX:

Rear Connector Plate with RJ45 DMX Output connectors: Pin1: DATA+, Pin2: DATA -, Pin7+8; Ground (ESTA Compliant) Carefully connect RJ45 cables to the respective ports

IDC DMX:

The Rear Connector Plate with Insulation Displacement Connectors (IDC): Pin 1: ComC”, Pin2: DATA-; Pin3: DATA+.

To prevent damaging the ports, provide strain relief and support. Avoid connecting FOH Snakes to the ports directly.

FRONT CONNECTIONS

  • (1) 5pin XLR DMX/RDM optically isolated port Bidirectional for DMX In or Output
  • (1) Locking RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet
  • Full color OLED display
  • LED Status feedback array
  • Encoder w. Push to Select / Exit Button

REAR CONNECTIONS

  • (2) RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet
  • (1) Remote Connection
  • (2×6) DMX connection plates (RJ45 or Terminal Block) Bidirectional for DMX In or Output
  • (10) Contact Closures (Terminal Block)
  • Locking Power In/Thru

The RJ45 port enables control input using an optional button station, such as the NETRON BS10. The maximum cable length from EN12i to the remote station is 100 meters (330 feet). The recommended cable type is CAT5e. Refer to the remote station installation guide for further details

The IDC connector is tool-less; simply insert the wire and press down on the orange tab to terminate the connection. Attach the terminal blocks to the back of the EN12i and secure each block with the provided locking screw. As noted on the plates, the pinouts, from left to right, are: “C”, “-”, and “+”.

CONTACT CLOSURES

10 Inputs are provided that can be mapped to various functions of the EN12i. The inputs are simple dry contact closures, and are provided in pairs of trigger and ground connections and the Terminal Block.

DO NOT APPLY VOLTAGE TO THE CONTACT! DOING SO WILL DAMAGE THE INPUT, AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. The EN12i is shipped with two terminal blocks that connect to the back ports. Lost or missing blocks can be purchased from authorized Obsidian Dealers.

CONNECTION PLATES

To install either the Terminal Connection Plate or the RJ45 DMX Plates, first loosen the thumbscrews that secure the currently installed Connection Plates. Next, unplug and carefully remove each plate. Finally, install the replacement Connection Plates and secure them with their respective thumbscrews.

MAINTENANCE

The Obsidian Control Systems NETRON EN12i is designed as rugged, roadworthy device. The only required service is occasional cleaning. For other service- related concerns, please contact your Obsidian Control Systems dealer, or visit www.obsidiancontrol.com. Any service that is not described in this guide must be carried out by a trained and qualified Obsidian Control Systems technician.

Never spray cleaner directly onto the device surface; always spray into a lint-free cloth and wipe it clean. Consider using cleaning products designed for cellphone and tablet devices. Important! Excessive dust, dirt, smoke, fluid build-up, and other materials can degrade the performance of the EN12i, causing overheating and damage to the unit that is not covered by the warranty.

Fuse Replacement:

Single fuse in the Line side; the EN12i is protected by a single 1A slow blow mains fuse in a fuse holder on the back of the device. Disconnect the product from AC mains power before replacing the fuse as parts of the product may remain live even if the mains fuse has blown.
