Let’s Pray Together!
Prayer is often an ignored aspect of Christian life. Let’s face it, WE’RE BUSY
PEOPLE! And prayer is so…hard. It’s hard to focus our thoughts, hard to think
beyond our day-to-day concerns. Hard. But think of this: there is a real,
actual God who is truly, actually listening. As we lead up to the NATIONAL DAY
OF PRAYER ON MAY 2ND, let’s take just a couple of minutes a day to
talk to the God who hears us and cares about us.
“I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear
my prayer.” Psalm 17:6
We invite you to use this prayer guide as a tool to direct your prayers in the
days leading up to the National Day of Prayer. We hope you can join us for
prayer at
12:00 (NOON)
ON THURSDAY MAY 2, 2024
AT THE KALAMAZOO CITY HALL (241 W SOUTH ST).
Schedule for Prayers
DAY 1: PRAYER FOR GOVERNMENT AND PUBLIC OFFICIALS
Our public officials—from city councils to the President’s
cabinet—are faced with many difficult decisions and those decisions affect our
lives and futures. We often complain about decisions we disagree with, but how
often do we pray for the decision-makers? Let’s pray that GOD’S HOLY SPIRIT
will guide them in all they do, whether or not they trust the Lord!
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2
DAY 2: PRAYER FOR THE NATION AND MILITARY
Security is something we take for granted. After all, many of us have lived in
security all our lives. Yet it is not a guarantee, but a blessing from the
Lord. Let’s remember who the source of security is. Let’s pray for the safety
of those who defend America as well as for widespread revival!
“It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.” Psalm 18:32
DAY 3: PRAYER FOR SCHOOLS, FAMILIES, AND YOUTH
Oh, the impact of our early years! Can’t you just remember a million little
things you picked up in childhood that became a part of who you are? Today
let’s pray for families and schools—that children will be brought up in
keeping with God’s Word.
“Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the
things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you
live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.”
Deuteronomy 4:9
DAY 4: PRAYER FOR JOBS/EMPLOYMENT AND FIGHTING CRIME
Quality. It’s something we’re all concerned about—the quality of food at the
restaurant or our kids’ grades in school or the state of our cars. Quality is
the difference between a successful career or a life of crime, between
glorifying God or dragging His name through the mud. Pray that the quality of
our nation would be of the God-honoring variety.
“Their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.” 1 Corinthians 3:13
DAY 5: PRAYER FOR RACIAL UNITY AND PEACE
The last few years have shown that our nation is simmering with hot-topic
turmoil. Sensitive topics, like race, can quickly lead to discord and
misunderstanding. As people of God, may we purge ourselves of wrong attitudes
and pray that we reach out to the pain behind these fights, bringing them the
healing of the HOLY SPIRIT AND SALVATION. May there be unity and peace!
“Consider the blameless, observe the upright; a future awaits those who seek peace.” Psalm 37:37
DAY 6: PRAYER FOR UNIFIED BODY OF CHRIST
Humans are very good at finding reasons to divide. It goes into the nitty-
gritty of our lives—personality type, what church we attend, what type of job
we have, which doctrines we hold, our stance on alcohol or marijuana, how we
raise our kids, and the list goes on. We build up division like our lives
depend on it. LET’S PRAY FOR UNITY AND UNDER-STANDING AMONG THE PEOPLE OF GOD
so the world will know we follow Jesus and so the work of God may go forth in
power!
“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are
one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity.
Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have
loved me.”
John 17:22-23
DAY 7: PRAYER FOR THE UNBORN
Have you ever considered that each human being was created by God with a
purpose? This means each unborn baby was specially designed by God for a
specific purpose. IT BOGGLES THE MIND! Yet the abortion industry robs these
babies not only of the chance to live, but also the chance to do what God
prepared for them to do. Pray that the horror of abortion will be thwarted at
every turn and that lives will be saved!
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
May God Go with You!
Life is hard. And confusing. As our week of prayer ends and you return to
your routine, we encourage you to continue seeking God’s guidance in all
things. He is real and He is listening. He will give you the wisdom you seek.
“Pray that the Lord your God will tell us where we should go and what we should do.” Jeremiah 42:3
