While running intensive tasks such as video editing or playing graphics- intensive computer games, periodic high-temperature spikes are considered normal. Several factors such as ambient temperature, hardware specifications, and even the surface that it rests on will influence the laptop’s ability to dissipate heat.
If you experience one or more of the issues below, refer to the video or instructions below to help you troubleshoot and resolve them.
- Excessive fan noise or use
- Games stop responding
- Windows stops responding
- Razer Blade restarts or turns off unexpectedly
Here is the video on how to keep the Razer Blade at optimal temperature while gaming.
Step-by-step process
- Ensure that you have the latest version of Windows. To do that, click the Start button, go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, then select “Check for Updates”. For more information, visit Microsoft Support.
2. Update your graphics drivers. Razer Blades (except for the Razer Blade Stealth models) have both integrated Intel graphics and dedicated Nvidia graphics equipped. You may consult your product manual for more information.
3. Keep the Blade’s air vents clean and clear from obstructions. It is generally recommended that laptops should rest on solid flat surfaces to maximize airflow along with the vents.
4. Over time dust could also accumulate within the vents that prevent them from working properly. To alleviate this, you can try holding the device upside down and using compressed air can dislodge any clumps of dust that may be clogging the vents.
5. Check your fan speed settings.
Do note that not all Razer Blade models allow the option to control fan speed. Depending on the specific model, you may have different fan control options.
-
1. Open Razer Synapse, then go to “SYSTEM” > “PERFORMANCE”.
- In “Balanced” mode, select “Auto (Default)” fan speed. With this setting, the system will automatically adjust the fan speed to cool the laptop. However, if you need to run the system at higher CPU and GPU power levels, it is recommended to select “Manual”.
i. Click and move the node to your preferred fan speed level. With this setting, the Razer Blade’s cooling fan will maintain the specified RPM.
For more details on adjusting the fan speed on your Razer Blade, see How to adjust the fan speed on the Razer Blade.
6. You can also reduce system load by closing background programs that you are not using. Make sure to save any unsaved work in those programs.
7. If you are comfortable doing so, you can also close any suspicious processes that may be slowing your system. Just note that some processes may be essential to your system running smoothly and closing them may make your system unstable. We advise you to do your own research regarding this.
-
1. 1. Right-click the Start button and select “Task Manager”.
b. Under the “Processes” tab, close any suspicious processes and look them up on the internet for more information. To close that process, right-click then select “End task”.
8. Try to use the Razer Blade in a cool environment. A hot ambient temperature can affect your Razer Blade’s efficiency to dissipate heat.
9. If the above steps did not resolve the issue, consider doing a system recovery or factory reset.
You can now work and game with your Razer Blade while keeping optimal temperature.
