RETROSPECTIVE 1977 MKII
Retrospective 1977 MKII
10030966, 10030968, 10030969
NUMAN Retrospective 1977 MKII Column is a three-way loudspeaker including two woofers with a retro look of the Seventies. However, the sound character and the components used are state-of-the-art: With its precise response and wide volume range, this speaker sounds extremely lively and easily fills a room up to a size of 60 sqm. During the development, we focused on an excellent spatial response with clear localization of voices and instruments. While positioning your speakers, we recommend a 360 degree distance of at least 70 cm all around – otherwise bass reproduction may be too strong. To access the full potential of our Retrospective Column Speaker, we recommend a high quality integrated amplifier or power amplifier according to our recommendation at the end of this manual.
RETROSPECTIVE 1978 MKII
Retrospective 1978 MKII
10030960, 10030961, 10030962
NUMAN Retrospective 1978 MKII is a three-way loudspeaker in the true sense of
the word: It adopts the typical shape of hi-fi stereo speakers from the
Seventies and Eighties. Due to its large volume and powerful bass
reproduction, the Speaker Boxes 1978 should be placed on a sturdy piece of
furniture or on the floor: To do this in proper “Eighties style”, we recommend
our Retrospective speaker stands, available as an accessory. Please do not
squeeze this loudpeaker into a bookshelf, and try to keep a 360 degree
distance of at least 50 cm all around: The result of this effort will be a
powerful, precise and very realistic sound in rooms with a floor space of up
to 40 sqm. While placing your pair of loudspeakers, NUMAN-logos should point
away from each other.
RETROSPECTIVE 1979 S
Retrospective 1979 S
10030947, 10030948, 10030949
NUMAN Retrospective 1979 S is a 2-way speaker with a woofer and midrange, a
tweeter with built-in NUMAN waveguide and a passive radiator. Although
compact, the smallest member of the popular Retrospective speaker family has
very good bass qualities and a balanced sound. Designed as a wall speaker, the
1979 S is also ideal as a desktop or bookshelf speaker because of its
excellent near-field properties. The 1979 S is particularly interesting for
all home cinema fans and multi-channel lovers, as it opens up completely new
surround sound perspectives and combinations as a rear speaker extension for
the Retrospective 1977 MKII and 1978 MKII. With its precise response and power
handling that is good for its size, the 1979 S sounds very lively and can
provide smaller rooms with sound as a stereo pair without any problems. If the
Retrospective 1979 S is used as a rear speaker, it uses just 20 to 30 watts
per channel into 4 ohms. If you want to use the speakers in the 5.1 setup,
please make sure that you choose speaker size „Klein“ / „Small“ or „Normal“ in
the settings of your AV receiver.
RETROSPECTIVE 1979 C
Retrospective 1979 C
10030954, 10030955, 10030956
NUMAN Retrospective 1979 C is a 2-way centre speaker in D‘Appolito arrangement
with two bass speakers, one tweeter with built-in NUMAN waveguide and two
passive radiators. The Retrospective 1979 C is the central element of a full
home theatre system. It convinces with its high speech intelligibility and a
round sound. Clear highs and powerful bass assure sufficient assertiveness. As
with the 1979 S, the 1979 C is also designed as a wall speaker, whereby the
bass reproduction is clearly emphasized. Nevertheless, it can also be used as
a mono speaker thanks to its excellent near-field characteristics. Through
precise speech reproduction, full sound and good power handling, the
Retrospective 1979 C sounds very lively and to the point.

AMPLIFIER
SELECTING THE RIGHT AMPLIFIER
The NUMAN Retrospective speakers are typical 4ohm speakers. Technically
speaking, they have been designed to work on almost every type of integrated
or power amplifier “old and new, big and small” without any risk of damaging
the amplifier; if in doubt, please check the manual of your device. We
recommend an amplifier with a Peak Power Output according our Power Handling
specification below. However, if you hear audible distortion while listening
at higher volumes (e.g. on a party), please reduce the output of your
amplifier immediately.
MODELL / MODEL | AUSGANGSLEISTUNG VERSTÄRKER / PEAK POWER AMPLIFIER (4 Ω) |
---|---|
Retrospective 1977 MKII | 100-200 W |
Retrospective 1978 MKII | 100-160 W |
Retrospective 1979 S | 20-100 W |
Retrospective 1979 C | 30-100 W |
CONNECTION
We recommend to use special speaker cable with a minimum diameter of 2,5 mm²
for the NUMAN Retrospective speakers. The shorter the cable, the better the
sound. Cable lengths below 5 meters are generally uncritical. Connect one end of your
speaker cable with your loudspeaker. While connecting the other end with your
amplifier, please make sure to connect the PLUS clamp (usually marked RED) of
your amplifier with the PLUS clamp of your NUMAN connector panel – and MINUS
(mostly BLACK) with MINUS.
“Mismatching Connections” on some of your speakers will neither damage your
amplifier nor your speakers, it will simply sound “somewhat diffused“, with a
noticeable lack of bass. If you notice, that your new speaker setup “doesn’t
sound right somehow“, please recheck the connections you have made!
