How to prepare your Mac mini for Apple Trade In
If you opted to trade in your Mac mini when you purchased a new Apple product, you’ll get a trade-in kit in the mail with everything you need to ship your Mac mini to Apple. Here’s everything you need to know about preparing and packing your Mac mini to trade it in.
Before you ship your Mac
- Back up your data. If you need help transferring data, schedule an appointment at an Apple Authorized Service Provider or an Apple Store at getsupport.apple.com. It is your sole responsibility to back up all existing data, software, and/or programs from your product. Apple is not responsible for loss, recovery, or compromise of data, software, or programs on your trade-in product.
- Sign out of iCloud.
- Turn off your firmware password.
- Deauthorize your computer for content purchases.
- Erase your hard disk.
Pack your product

Remove the foam pieces from the box.

Place the foam pieces on either side of your Mac mini so that it sits securely in them.

Place the Mac mini secured with the foam pieces into the box.

Put your power cord into the foam bag. Remove the plastic strip and fold down the top of the bag to seal it.

Put the bag in the box.

Tape the box closed with the tape provided.*

Ship your product to Apple
- Find the name of the courier on the return shipping label.
- Find the name of the courier on the label (or elsewhere in the packing materials) and visit its website to arrange a collection or find a drop-off location.
- Get a receipt from the courier.
- Check your new device shipment email for a link to check the status of your trade-in.
