Use Reminders on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 12
Use Reminders to keep track of things like projects, groceries, and more. And with iCloud, you can keep your reminders up to date across all of your devices.
This article applies to the Reminders app in iOS 12. Learn about the new Reminders features in iOS 13.
Add a reminder

Open the Reminders app.

Tap in your Reminders list.

Enter your reminder.

To add details like a time or place to be reminded, tap the info button .

Tap Done.
Complete a reminder
To mark a reminder as complete, tap the empty circle next to it. To see completed reminders, tap Show Completed in the Reminders list.
To delete a reminder, tap Edit at the top of the list, tap , then tap Delete.
If you get a reminder notification on your Lock screen, swipe left over the reminder, tap View. Then tap Mark as Completed.
Choose how you’re reminded
Need to be reminded to pick up your dry cleaning at 10:00 a.m.? With Reminders, you can set notifications that alert you when reminders are due, or when you arrive or leave a location, like your home or work.
Set a time

Open the Reminders app.

Tap a reminder, then tap the info button to the right of the reminder.

Turn on Remind me on a day, then tap the date next to Alarm.

Set a date and time for your reminder.

Tap Done.
Set a place

Open the Reminders app.

Tap a reminder, then tap the info button to the right of your reminder.

Turn on Remind me at a location, then tap Location.

Search or enter the address where you want to be reminded. You can even use your current location.

Choose whether you want a reminder when you leave or arrive at that location.

Drag the black dot on the circle in or out to change the perimeter of your reminder area.

Tap Details to return to the previous screen, then tap Done.
To receive location-based reminders, make sure that Location Services is turned on and that your device supports this feature.
Location-based reminders are available in iOS 8 or later on iPhone 4 and later, iPad Pro (Wi-Fi + Cellular) and later, iPad (4th generation Wi-Fi + Cellular), iPad Air or later (Wi-Fi + Cellular), iPad mini 4 (Wi-Fi + Cellular) and later, and iPod touch (6th generation).
Ask Siri to remind you
You can ask Siri to schedule a reminder for you. Here are a few examples:
- “Remind me when I get home to check the mail.”
- “Remind me when I leave here to stop by the grocery store.”
- “Remind me tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. to call Jane.”
If you give Siri your home or work address, you can personalize your requests like, “remind me to call my wife when I get home.”

Go to Contacts > My Card, then add your work or home address.

Go to Settings > Siri & Search, then tap My Info. Tap your contact card to add it to My Information.
Siri uses Location Services when your reminder needs to use your location. Siri availability varies by language, country, and region. Learn which Siri features are supported in which countries and regions.
Add a reminder from another app
Remind yourself to get back to a website, map location, or something else in another app while you’re using it, without switching to Reminders. Here’s how:
- Ask Siri “Remind me about this later.”
- Tap in the app you want to create a reminder for, then tap Reminders.
When you get reminded or open Reminders, you can return to the app you created the reminder for by tapping the app icon to the right of the reminder.
Call someone back later
Can’t take a call right now? When you get a call, tap Remind Me and choose when you want to be reminded to call that person back.
Organize your reminders
Want to separate your reminders into categories like work, personal, or school? Create a Reminders list to keep things organized. To switch between lists, tap the name of the Reminders list or swipe down from the top of the Reminders list.
Create a new Reminders list
- Open the Reminders app.
- Swipe down from the top of a Reminders list, then tap .
- Tap List, then select the account that you want to add the list to.
- Name your list and choose a color.
- Tap Done.
Move reminders to a new list
- Open the Reminders app.
- Go to a Reminders list and tap a reminder.
- Tap or swipe left over the reminder and tap More.
- Tap List and choose the list you want to add the reminder to.
- Tap Done.
Share a Reminders list

Open the Reminders app.

Tap the list that you want to share, then tap Edit > Sharing.

Tap Add person, then enter their email address. You can share a Reminders list with anyone signed in to iCloud.

When you’re finished, tap Done.
After someone accepts your invitation to share the list, all of you can add, delete, and mark items as completed. Family members can also share a list if they set up Family Sharing.
Notifications that you set for your reminders aren’t shared with anyone else.
Set up Reminders with iCloud
You can use iCloud to update your reminders across all your devices. To set up Reminders with iCloud, go to Settings > iCloud and turn on Reminders. You’ll see your Reminders on all of your Apple devices that you’re signed in to with the same Apple ID.
