Intended use
Indications, and contraindications It is easier to prevent pressure
ulcers than to treat them. Bedsores can be avoided by changing frequently
lying or seating positions to avoid stress on the skin and to minimize the
risk of pressure on vulnerable bony areas. Other strategies include skincare,
regular skin inspections and good nutrition. Using a heel protector can help
relieve pressure and make sure that the heel is correctly positioned in the
chair or in the bed. It is one of the best ways to avoid bedsores,
specifically reducing pressure, friction and shear from the heels, „floating“
the heels off the surface of the bed or chair.
Which patients are at risk of pressure ulcers? Patients with limited or
no mobility due to their age, an accident or illness, and who sit for long
periods of time in the day. Patients who cannot position themselves
independently when they get uncomfortable. These patients might slump to one
side, forward or slide down the chair, needing help from carers or family
members to regain a mid-line posture. Patients who have thin or fragile skin
and who are at high-pressure injury risk. Patients who are hoisted for all
transfers.
Indications:
– Patients with or at risk of developing minor pressure ulcers
– Pain relief, pressure redistribution, reduction of friction and shear forces
– Patients with significant bony prominences
– Post-surgery and bedsores prevention.
Contraindications:
Don‘t use this product in case of:
“- Excessive sweating causing a risk of skin maceration
– Severe skin defect (ulcers)
– inadequate supporting surface
– Avoid layering incontinence products
