Intended use

Before use, read these instructions carefully in order
to become familiar with important safety and operating instructions for this appliance. If the instructions for correct use of the appliance are not observed, the manufacturer’s liability for any resulting damage will be excluded.
This appliance is intended for domestic use only. Use the appliance only for processing normal amounts of food and for normal amounts of time for domestic use; see “Recipes/Ingredients/Processing” section.

This appliance is suitable for mixing, kneading, beating, cutting and shredding food. Other applications are possible if the accessories approved by the manufacturer are used. It must not be used for processing other objects or substances.
Use the appliance with original accessories only.
Please keep the operating instructions in a safe place. If passing on the appliance to a third party, always include the operating instructions.

Safety instructions

Risk of electric shock

  • The appliance must not be used by children.

  • The appliance and its power cord must be kept away from children. Appliances can be used by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge if they are given supervision or instruction

  • concerning use of the appliance in a safe way and if they understand the hazards involved.

  • Do not let children play with the appliance. Cleaning and user maintenance must not be performed by children.

  • Connect and operate the appliance only in accordance with the specifications on the rating plate. Only use the appliance indoors at room temperature and up to 2000 m above sea level.

  • Do not place the power cord over sharp edges or hot surfaces. Do not use the appliance if the power cord and/or appliance
    are damaged. To prevent injury, a damaged power cord must

  • be replaced by the manufacturer or his customer service or a similarly qualified person. Only our customer service may repair the appliance.

  • Before replacing accessories or additional parts which move during operation, the appliance must be switched off and disconnected from the power supply. Always disconnect the appliance from the supply if it is left unattended and before assembling, disassembling or cleaning. If the power is interrupted, the appliance remains switched on and restarts when the power is restored. Never immerse the base unit in liquids or place under running water and do not clean in the dishwasher. Before rectifying a fault, pull out the mains plug.

Risk of injury from the rotating tools!
While the appliance is operating, never reach into the mixing bowl. Always use the pusher for adding ingredients. After switching off, the drive continues running for a short time. Change tools only when the drive is at a standstill.

Risk of injury from sharp blades/rotating drive!
Do not touch the universal blade with bare hands. Grip the universal blade by the edge of the plastic handle only.
When not in use, always keep the universal blade in the accessories drawer. Clean with a brush. Exercise particular caution when handling the attachments! Note shape and location of the insert when inserting it into the carrier disc. Take hold of carrier disc by the designated recessed grips only. Do not reach into the feed tube. Only use the pusher to push down.

Risk of injury!
Never assemble accessories on the base unit.

It is essential to clean the appliance thoroughly after each use or after it has not been used for an extended period. X “Cleaning and servicing”

Overview

  1. Rotary switch
    P = Stop
    M = Instantaneous switching at maximum speed, hold switch for required blending duration. Setting 1–2, drive speed:
    1 = low speed – slow,
    2 = high speed – fast.

    To open the drawer, push the button on the underside of the appliance and pull out the drawer. To pull the drawer out completely, tilt slightly upwards and pull out. When inserting the drawer, tilt slightly upwards and then push in all the way. BOSCH MCM40 Compact Food Processor

Operation

Before operating the appliance and accessories for the first time, clean thoroughly; see “Cleaning and servicing”.

Preparation
  • Place the base unit on a smooth, stable and clean surface.
  • Pull cord out of the cord store to the required length.

Important information

  • Keep the accessories drawer closed while working with the appliance.
  • Only use the rotary switch to switch the appliance on or off.
  • Never switch the appliance off by rotating the bowl, the blender or a tool.
  • Take all accessory parts out of the bowl before use. Only insert the parts needed.
  • Do not switch the appliance on unless tools or accessories have been completely attached.

While the appliance is operating, never reach into the mixing bowl. Always use the pusher for adding ingredients.

After switching off, the drive continues running for a short time. Change tools only when the drive is at a standstill.
Caution!
The appliance can only be switched on to process food in the bowl when the bowl is attached and when the lid is attached and screwed on tight.

Universal blade

for cutting, mincing, mixing and kneading.

Risk of injury from sharp blades!
Do not touch universal blade with bare hands. Take hold of the universal blade by the edge of the plastic handle only. When not in use, always put the universal blade back into the accessories drawer.

Whipping/beating disc

  • Attach the bowl (match arrow on bowl to dot on appliance) and rotate as far as possible in a clockwise direction.
  • Press the drive shaft into the tool holder until it locks into position.
  • Insert tool holder into the bowl.
  • Place universal blade or whipping disc into the tool holder and let go.

Caution!
Do not add ingredients until the tools have been inserted.

  • Add ingredients.
  • Attach lid with pusher (match arrow on lid on dot on bowl) and rotate in a clockwise direction. Lid lug must be located fully in the slot in the bowl handle.
  • Plug the mains plug into the mains.
  • Set the rotary switch to the desired setting.
  • To add more ingredients, set the rotary switch to P.
  • Remove the pusher and add ingredients through the feed tube.

Carrier disc and disc inserts

Risk of injury from sharp blades!
Exercise particular caution when handling disc inserts! Note shape and location of the insert when inserting it into the carrier disc. Take hold of carrier disc by the designated recessed grips only.
Do not reach into the feed tube. Only use the pusher to push down.

  • Slicing insert A, coarse
    Turn the rotary switch to a low speed setting. For slicing cucumbers and carrots.

  • Slicing insert B, fine
    Turn the rotary switch to a high speed setting. For slicing cucumbers and carrots.

  • Shredding insert C, coarse
    Turn the rotary switch to a high speed setting. For shredding apples, carrots and cheese. Not suitable for very hard food, e.g. salami.

  • Shredding insert D, fine

  • Attach the bowl (match arrow on bowl to dot on appliance) and rotate as far as possible in a clockwise direction.

  • Insert drive shaft into the bowl.

  • Insert the required insert into the carrier disc. Note the shape and location of the insert! X Fig. D-5a

  • Attach the carrier disc to the drive shaft.

  • Attach the lid with the pusher (match arrow on lid to arrow on bowl) and rotate in a clockwise direction. Lid lug must be located fully in the slot in the bowl handle.

  • Plug the mains plug into the mains.

  • Set the rotary switch to the desired setting.

  • Fill with contents which are to be sliced or shredded.

  • When pushing down ingredients for slicing or shredding, apply only light pressure to the pusher. Remove the pusher and add ingredients through the feed tube.

Caution!
Empty the bowl before it becomes so full that the ingredients for slicing or shredding reach the carrier disc.

Citrus press

For squeezing juice out of citrus fruits, such as oranges, grapefruits and lemons.

  • Attach the bowl (match arrow on bowl to dot on appliance) and rotate as far as possible in a clockwise direction.
  • Insert drive shaft into the bowl.
  • Attach the citrus press to the drive shaft (match arrow on citrus press to arrow on bowl) and rotate in a clockwise direction. The lug on the strainer basket must be located fully in the slot in the bowl handle.
  • Attach and press on pressing cone.
  • To extract juice from the fruit, set the rotary switch to low speed and press the halved fruit onto the pressing cone.

Caution!
Note the level in the bowl. Max. quantity: 500 ml.
Empty the bowl in good time.

After using the appliance

  • Turn rotary switch to P.
  • Disconnect the mains plug.

Remove the bowl with accessories/tools:

  • Rotate the lid in an anti-clockwise direction and remove.
  • Take the tool holder together with the universal blade or whipping disc out of the bowl. Remove the tool from the tool holder.
  • Grasp the carrier disc by the recessed grips and lift out of the bowl.
  • Turn the carrier disc over and carefully press out the insert from the underside. X Fig. EBOSCH MCM40 Compact Food Processor fig5
  • Rotate bowl anti-clockwise and remove.
  • Clean all parts. X “Cleaning and servicing”

Cleaning and servicing

Remove the citrus press:

  • Unscrew the citrus press and remove the bowl.
  • Clean all parts. X “Cleaning and servicing”

Cleaning and servicing

The appliance requires no maintenance. Thorough cleaning protects the appliance from damage and keeps it functional.

Risk of electric shock!
Never immerse the base unit in water or place under running water.

Caution!
Surfaces may be damaged. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents.

Note:
When processing food such as carrots and red cabbage, plastic parts may become discoloured. This can however be removed with a few drops of cooking oil.

Cleaning the base unit
  • Pull out the mains plug.
  • Wipe the base unit with a damp cloth. If required, use a little detergent.
  • Then dry the base unit.
  • Rinse the accessories drawer under running water and leave to dry. Do not clean in the dishwasher.
Cleaning the bowl and accessories

Risk of injury from sharp blades!
Do not touch the universal blade with bare hands. Grip the universal blade by the edge of the plastic handle only. When not in use, always put the universal blade back into the accessories drawer. Clean with a brush.
Note:
All parts are dishwasher-safe. Do not wedge plastic parts in the dishwasher as they could warp.

Cleaning the citrus press

All parts are dishwasher-safe. It is recommended rinsing the pressing cone on all sides under running water immediately after use. Doing so prevents residue from drying on.

Troubleshooting

Risk of injury!
Before rectifying a fault, pull out the mains plug.

Base unit

Fault:
Appliance does not work.
Possible cause:
An attempt was made to attach the bowl to the appliance while switched on.
Remedial action:

  • Turn rotary switch to P.
  • Attach the bowl correctly and rotate fully into position.
  • Switch the appliance back on again.
Accessories

Fault:
Appliance does not start.
Possible cause:
The accessory is not correctly attached.
Remedial action:

  • Turn rotary switch to P.
  • Attach accessory according to the instructions in this manual.

Important information
If the fault cannot be eliminated, please contact customer service (see customer service addresses at the end of this booklet).

Storage

  • Disconnect the mains plug.
  • Stow the cord in the cord store.
  • Stow the whipping disc and carrier disc for disc inserts in the bowl.
  • Stow the remaining tools in the accessories drawer.
  • Attach the bowl.

Disposal

Dispose of packaging in an environ-mentally-friendly manner. This appliance is labelled in accordance with European Directive 2012/19/EU concerning used electrical and electronic appliances (waste electrical and electronic equipment – WEEE). The guideline determines the frame-work for the return and recycling
of used appliances as applicable throughout the EU. Please ask your specialist retailer about current disposal facilities.

The guarantee conditions for this appliance are as defined by our representative in the country in which it is sold. Details regarding these conditions can be obtained from the dealer from whom the appliance was purchased. The bill of sale or receipt must be produced when making any claim under the terms of this guarantee.

Recipes/Ingredients/Processing

**| low/high| approx. 1-2 min| Yeast dough**

–       Max. 500 g flour

–       25 g yeast or 1 packet of dried yeast

–       225 ml milk (room temperature)

–       1 egg

–       1 pinch of salt

–       80 g sugar

–       60 g fat (room temperature)

–       Grated rind of half a lemon (lemon extract)

■    Add all ingredients (except the milk) to the bowl.

■    Set the rotary switch to a low speed for 10 seconds.

■    Add the milk and mix at high speed.

Ingredients should all be at the same temperature. When the dough has a smooth appearance, place in a warm location.

–       from 1 onion (quartered) up to 300 g

–       from 1 clove of garlic up to 300 g

■    Process until chopped to the required size.

**| high| | Meat, liver** (for mince, steak tartare, etc.)

– 50 g to 500 g

■    Remove bones, gristle and sinews. Dice the meat. Making sausage meat, stuffing and pâté:

■    Put the meat (beef, pork, veal, poultry, or even fish, etc.) together with the other ingredients and spices into

the bowl and mix into a dough.

| Strawberry sorbet

–       250 g frozen strawberries

–       100 g icing sugar

–       180 ml cream (a bit less than one pot)

■       Put all ingredients in the bowl. Switch on immediately or the mixture will go lumpy. Mix until a creamy sorbet forms.


| low/high| | Beaten egg white

– 2 to 6 egg whites

■    Beat at high speed. Set low speed to fold in ingredients.

**| low/high| | Whipped cream**

– 200 g to 400 g

■    Beat at high speed. Set low speed to fold in ingredients.
