RICARDO Programmable Coffee Maker programmable coffee maker. Before using this product, please read the user care and instruction manual carefully.
IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be
followed to prevent fire, electric shock, serious personal injury and/or
property damage, including the following.
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE FIRST USE
- this appliance should not be used by children. Keep the appliance and its cord out of the reach of children and pets. Close adult supervision is necessary when any appliance is used near children.
- Do not let the power cord hang (over the edge of a table or counter) to avoid tripping or cause the heated water to spill and possibly cause burns or injuries. Do not let the power cord touch hot surfaces.
- Do not operate the appliance with a damaged cord or plug, after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Do not attempt to repair this product. If there is a problem, please call 1-866-226-9222.
- Do not operate the coffee maker without water.
ATTENTION
Burn hazard! The appliance becomes hot during use.
- Do not touch hot surfaces Always use the stay-cool handle. Use protective oven mitts to avoid burns or serious personal injury
- Do not use the carafe with loose or weakened handle.
- Do not fill the reservoir over the maximum fill line. If the reservoir is overfilled, hot water may be ejected.
- Scalding may occur if the reservoir lid is opened during the heating cycle. Be certain the lid is securely closed during operation.
- Always pour hot coffee slowly and carefully from the carafe as hot water and steam may cause burns or injuries.
- This appliance should only be used to make coffee. Never use with liquids other than water, or with food.
- Keep away from curtains, wall coverings, clothing, dish towels or other flammable materials. Ensure there is sufficient space surrounding the appliance.
- Always place the appliance on a flat, stable and heat-resistant surface. Do not use the appliance on temperature-sensitive surfaces.
- Do not use the appliance for anything other than its intended use. Do not use attachments or accessories that are not recommended or sold by the manufacturer.
- To protect against electrical shock, never immerse the power cord, the plug, or the machine in water or other liquid.
- Do not place the appliance on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a heated oven or microwave oven.
- Do not leave the appliance unattended. Always unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet when not in use.
- Do not plug or unplug the product into/from the electrical outlet with wet hands.
- This appliance is intended for household use only. Do not use outdoors.
- Use the provided plug only.
- Connect the power plug to an easily accessible outlet so that the appliance can be unplugged immediately in the event of an emergency.
- The device must not be operated via an external timer or remote control.
- Unplug appliance from the electrical outlet before cleaning and when not in use. To unplug, grasp the plug and pull it from the electrical outlet. Never pull the cord.
- Always turn off and unplug the appliance after use. Allow to cool down completely before relocating or cleaning the appliance.
- The cord for this appliance should be plugged into a 120V AC electrical wall outlet.
CARAFE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
- Do not use a cracked carafe or a carafe with a loose or weakened handle.
- This carafe is designed to be used only on the keep warm plate of the RICARDO coffee maker. Do not use on a gas or electric range top, or in a microwave or conventional oven.
- To avoid breakage, handle carafe with care. The glass can break from impacts. Use care when filling with water to avoid hitting the faucet.
- Do not place the hot carafe on a cool or wet surface. Allow it to cool before washing or adding water.
- Do not set an empty carafe on a hot heating surface.
- Do not clean with steel wool pads, abrasive cleaners, or any other materials that may scratch the surface.
- Do not place hands inside the carafe. When handling, be cautious of hand jewelry, especially diamond rings. Jewelry can scratch the glass, increasing the risk of breakage.
- Discard the carafe if it is cracked, scratched, or has been heated while empty for an extended period.
- If stirring in the carafe, use only wooden, plastic, or rubber utensils. Do not use metal utensils.
- Follow the above safety precautions carefully to avoid serious burns which may result if breakage occurs while the carafe contains hot coffee.
NOTES ON THE PLUG
For safety reasons, this appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider
than the other).To reduce the risk of electric shock, this plug can only be
inserted one way into the electrical outlet. If the plug does not fit
correctly into the outlet, reverse the plug and insert into the outlet. If it
still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician for further assistance. Do
not attempt to modify the plug in any way.
NOTES ON THE CORD
A short power-supply cord is provided to reduce the risk of becoming
entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
AN EXTENSION CORD MAY BE USED IF CARE IS EXERCISED IN ITS USE:
- Minimize the risk of overheating by using the shortest UL or ETL-listed cord possible.
- The marked electrical rating must be at least as great as that of the product.
- Never use a single extension cord to operate more than one appliance.
- Arrange the longer cord so that it will not drape over a countertop or tabletop where it can be tripped over, snagged, or pulled on unintentionally (particularly by children).
- DO NOT alter the plug. DO NOT attempt to defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug.
ELECTRIC POWER
If the electrical circuit is overloaded with other appliances, the
appliance may not operate properly. It should be plugged into a separate
electrical circuit.

BEFORE FIRST USE
- Remove all parts & accessories and dispose of packaging.
- Check that all accessories are included and intact.
- Fill the reservoir with water to the max level and brew water several times without ground coffee. Discard water when finished.
- Clean all detachable parts thoroughly with warm water.
USING THE COFFEE MAKER
- Open the water tank lid and fill the water tank with cold drinking water. The water level should not exceed MAX level as indicated on water level gauge.
- Place the funnel into the funnel support. Make sure it is placed correctly, otherwise, the top lid cannot be closed
- Place the reusable filter in the funnel.
- Add ground coffee into the reusable filter. Usually 1 level tablespoon of medium ground coffee requires 1 cup of water for each cup of brewed coffee. This can be adjusted according to personal taste.
- Insert the carafe horizontally on the warming plate.
- Plug the power cord into the outlet. The clock will flash 12:00. Use the hour and minute buttons to set the clock time if desired. NOTE: Setting the clock time only required when setting the PROGRAM function.
- Press the button, the indicator will light up in red and the appliance will begin brewing NOTE: During the brewing process, the PROGRAM, HOUR and MINUTE functions are inoperative.
- Remove carafe to serve when brewing is complete (about one minute after the coffee stops dripping out.)
- Once brewing is complete, the coffee maker can be turned off by pressing the button, or it can be left on and the coffee will be kept hot on the heating plate. The appliance will shut off automatically 3 hours after the brew has begun if the unit is not manually turned off. For a better coffee taste, serve just after brewing.
- Always turn the coffee maker off and disconnect the power supply when not in use.
NOTE:
Pay close attention when serving coffee. Once the brewing is complete, the coffee’s temperature will be very hot. Avoid hand contact to prevent burning.
- The volume of coffee brewed will be less than the water initially added, as some water is absorbed by the coffee grounds.
- The brewing process can be interrupted by pressing the button at any time; the indicator light will turn off indicating the coffee maker is no longer brewing. The appliance will continue brewing once the button is pressed again.
- The carafe can be removed to pour and serve at any time during the brewing process. The appliance will pause dripping automatically for a maximum of 30 seconds.
STRONG BREW FUNCTION
To adjust the coffee strength, press the STRONG button once. The red coffee
bean-shaped indicator will light up and the appliance will brew stronger
coffee.
BREW START DELAY FUNCTION
This coffee machine can delay brewing by up to 24 hours. To delay brewing,
follow steps 1 to 6 of the USING THE COFFEE MAKER section. Follow the below
steps to activate the brew start delay function:

To set the clock’s current time, press the HOUR and MINUTE buttons.
NOTE: The time cycle is 12 hours with AM and PM indicators. -
Press the PROGRAM button and the white indicator light and the time 12:00 will flash. Set the desired brew time by pressing the HOUR and MINUTE buttons.

Press the PROGRAM button and the white indicator light will stop flashing and stay on. The LCD screen will then display the current clock time. NOTE: The delay start function can be cancelled by pressing the PROGRAM button and the indicator light will turn off. To change the programmed start time, repeat steps 1-3.

When the programmed brew time is reached, the red indicator will light up, the PROGRAM light will turn off, and the appliance will begin brewing. NOTE: During the brewing process, the PROGRAM, HOUR and MINUTE buttons are inoperative.

Once brewing is complete, the coffee maker can be turned off by pressing the button, or it can be left on and the coffee will be kept hot on the heating plate. The appliance will shut off automatically 3 hours after the brew has begun if the unit is not manually turned off. For a better coffee taste, serve just after brewing.

Always turn the coffee maker off and disconnect the power supply when not in use.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
- Unplug the appliance and allow all parts to cool down completely before handling or attempting to clean.
- To protect against electrical shock, do not immerse cord, plug or unit in water or any other liquid.
- Clean all detachable parts after each use in hot soapy water. The reusable filter, funnel and carafe can be washed on the top rack of the dishwasher. Use caution when placing the carafe in the dishwasher to avoid damaging the glass.
- If needed, wipe the exterior surface of unit with a soft, damp cloth. Dry thoroughly.
- Water droplets may build up underneath the upper section and drip onto the unit base during brewing. Wipe off the area with a clean, dry cloth after each use.
- Use a damp cloth to gently wipe the warming plate. Never use an abrasive cleaner.
- Assemble all parts and put aside for next use.
REMOVING MINERAL DEPOSITS
- Mineral deposits left by hard water can clog the coffee maker. Periodic cleaning is recommended.
- To remove build-up, use non-toxic scale remover and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
CLEANING WITH VINEGAR
- Pour white vinegar into the water reservoir up to the 4-cup line on the water window. Add cold water up to the max fill line.
- Place the funnel and filter and close the cover. Set the empty carafe on the warming plate.
- Turn on the coffee maker and let half the vinegar solution brew into the carafe (until water level goes down halfway. Turn off the coffee maker and let it soak for at least 15 minutes to soften the deposits.
- Turn on the coffee maker and brew the remaining vinegar solution into the carafe.
- Turn off the coffee maker and empty the carafe.
- Fill the reservoir with cold water to the max fill line, replace the empty carafe, then turn on the coffee maker for a complete brew cycle to flush out the remaining vinegar solution. Repeat as needed to eliminate the vinegar smell.
- Wash the filter basket and carafe as instructed in CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE.
STORAGE
Ensure all pieces are clean, dry and properly assembled before storing.
Store appliance upright in a dry, clean place.
2-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY (Applies only in Canada)
This warranty covers any defects in materials and workmanship for a period
of two (2) years from the date of the original purchase. Please retain your
original receipt as a proof of the purchase date. Any complaints must be
registered within the warranty period. The product will be repaired, replaced
(parts or entire appliance) or refunded at our sole discretion. Shipping
charges may apply. This warranty does not cover normal wear of parts or damage
resulting from any of the following: negligent use or misuse of the product
including failure to clean the product regularly, use for commercial purposes,
accident, use on improper voltage or current, use contrary to the operating
instructions, disassembly, repair or alteration by anyone other than an
authorized service agent.
