Safety Instructions
Before using the product, read and remember all safety instructions provided in the manual. The welding helmet should only be used for the purposes specified in the manual.

Before You Start Working
Ensure your own safety by checking that the helmet is in proper working condition. The helmet does not protect against hard shocks, explosions, or corrosive substances.

Cleaning
Regularly clean the welding helmet to maintain visibility and performance.

ADF Settings/Adjustment
Adjust the ADF settings according to your requirements. Make mode adjustments as necessary.

Shade Adjustment
Set the desired shade level for optimal visibility and protection. Refer to the recommended shade level selection table in the manual.

Delay Time and Sensitivity Adjustment:
Adjust the delay time from 0.1 to 0.9 seconds and sensitivity from 1 to 9 based on your welding needs. Higher sensitivity settings are recommended for TIG welding and applications with a stable arc.

CleanAIR® Verus air

Introduction

When used in accordance with these instructions, the CleanAIR® Verus / Verus air is designed to protect the user´s eyes and face from harmful ra-diation including visible light, ultra-violet (UV), infra-red (IR) radiation and hot sparks and spatters resulting from arc welding and cutting applica-tions such as MIG, MAG, TIG, SMAW, Plasma Arc, Carbon Arc gouging. This auto-darkening welding helmet is not recommended for heavy duty overhead welding applications, laser welding or Iaser cutting applications. The CleanAIR® Verus air is adapted for use with powered air purifying respirators (hereinafter PAPR) CleanAIR® or with continuous flow com-pressed air breathing apparatuses (hereinafter „compressed air system“) CleanAIR® and thus provides protection of the respiratory tract. CleanAIR® is a system of personal respiratory protection based on the principle of overpressure of filtered air in the breathing zone The respirator is placed on the wearer’s belt and filtrates the air which is taken in from the surrounding environment and then delivers it through the airduct into the protective helmet. The overpressure prevents contaminants from entering the breathing zone. This mild overpressure at the same time ensures the wearer’s comfort, even with long-term use, as the wearer does not have to struggle in their breathing to overcome the resistance of the filter.

Before you start working

  • Ensure that the helmet is correctly assembled and that it completely blocks any accidental light. In the front, light may enter the helmet only through the viewing area of the auto-darkening welding filter.
  • Adjust the headgear to ensure maximum comfort and to provide the largest field of vision.
  • Check the prescribed shade level for your welding application and ad-just your auto-darkening filter accordingly (see the table with recom-mended shade levels).
  • Inspect that the protection plates are undamaged, clean and installed correctly. Replace the plate immediately, if it is damaged, or if spatter or scratches reduce vision.
  • Inspect that the welding filter lens is undamaged and clean. The dam-aged welding filter lens impairs protection and visibility and must be re-placed immediately.
  • Inspect that the welding helmet and headgear are undamaged.

WARNING – CleanAIR® Verus / CleanAIR® Verus air

  • Use only original CleanAIR® / AerTEC™ spare parts and consumables. In case of doubt, please contact your authorized distributor. The use of substitute components or any modifications not specified in this manual might impair protection and may invalidate claims under the warranty or cause the product to be non-compliant with protection classifications and relevant standards and certificates.
  • Never place the helmet or the auto-darkening welding filter on hot surface.
  • Scratched or damaged protection plates should be regularly replaced by original CleanAIR® ones. Before using a new protection plate, make sure to remove any additional protection foil from both sides. Use the CleanAIR® Verus / CleanAIR® Verus air helmet only within the temperature range of -5°C to +55°C.
  • Do not use tempered mineral filters without suitable protection foils.
  • Replace protection plate immediately, if it is damaged, or if spatter or scratches reduce vision.
  • Do not expose the auto-darkening welding filter to liquids and protect it from dirt.
  • Materials which may come into contact with the wearer’s skin could cause allergic reactions to susceptible individuals.
  • Welding helmet worn over standard ophthalmic spectacles may transmit impact, thus create a hazard to the wearer.

Limitations on use of CleanAIR® Verus air
Never use the helmet in the following environments and under the following conditions:

  • if oxygen concentration in the environment is lower than 17 %,
  • in oxygen-enriched environments,
  • in explosive ambience,
  • in environments that represent an immediate threat to the life and health.

The helmet does not protect against hard shocks, explosions or corrosive substances.

  • Do not use in environments where the user does not know the type of contamination or its concentration.
  • Do not use when the powered air purifying respirator is turned off or when the compressed air inlet is closed! In this case the respiratory system gives little or no respiratory protection.
  • Also there is a risk of a high concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) building up and of oxygen deficiency occurring inside the helmet.
  • Move to a secure location and take appropriate measures when any of the following problems occur while using the helmet:
  • if the PAPR or the compressed air system cease to operate for any reason whatsoever, the user must leave the contaminated workplace without delay,
  • if you experience stench or irritation or an unpleasant taste while breathing.
  • if you feel unwell or if you experience nausea.
  • Filters designed for capturing solid and liquid particles (particle filters) do not protect the user against any gases. Filters designed for capturing gas-es do not protect the user against any particles. In the workplace contaminated by both types of pollution, combined filters must be used.

Control, maintenance and spare parts replacement

CleanAIR® Verus is a complete welding helmet consisting of the welding shield including an auto-darkening filter and headband. Version CleanAIR® Verus air has additional air distribution. The lifetime of the helmet and visors is influenced by many factors such as: cold, heat, chemicals, sunlight or incorrect use. The helmet should be checked on a daily basis of possible damage of its inside or outside structure.
Careful use and correct maintenance of the welding helmet enhances operating life and improves your safety!

Cleaning

  • After each work shift, clean the head section, check individual parts, and replace damaged parts.
  • Cleaning must be performed in a room with sufficient ventilation. Avoid inhalation of harmful dust settled on individual parts!
  • For cleaning, use lukewarm water (up to +40 °C) with soap or other non-abrasive detergent and a soft brush.
  • It is prohibited to use cleaning agents with solvents.
  • After cleaning individual parts with a damp cloth, it is necessary to rub them dry or let them dry at room temperature.
  • It is recommended to use CleanAIR® Klar-pilot fluids for caring of the visors and plastic parts.
  • Do not use dishwasher or dryer!

ADF settings/adjustment ON/OFF

  • The welding filter switches on automatically when an intense light source is detected.
  • Press any button to check if the lens is working properly and to activate Mode adjustments.

SHADE CONTROL (*PICTURE 1)

  • Press the „M“ button (7), until the mode indicator is on Shade (3), the LED screen (6) now shows the current shade number
  • Press „+“ button (8) and „-“ button (9) to set the desired shade number.
  • To toggle between the two shade ranges 5-8 and 9-13, press and hold any button „M“(7), „+“(8),“-“(9) for 3 seconds.
  • Once the range is switched use „+“ (8) and „-“ (9) button to set the desired shade.

DELAY CONTROL

  • Press the „M“ button (7), until the mode indicator is on Delay(4), the LED screen (6) now shows the current delay setting.
  • Press „+“ button (8) and „-“ (9) button to set the desired delay setting. Delay time can be adjusted from 1 (0.1Seconds)-9 (0.9 Seconds).

SENSITIVITY CONTROL

  • Press the „M“ button(7), until the mode indicator is on Sensitivity(2), the LED screen(6) shows the current sensitivity setting.
  • Press „+“ button (8) and „-“ button (9) to set the desired sensitivity level. Sensitivity can be adjusted from 1 to 9. Higher number means higher sensitivity.

Sensitivity guideline
Sensitivity settings is used to tell the auto darkening lens how sensitively it should respond to the welding arc and interferences. Due to different working environments and properties of welding processes, adjustments may be required. Sensitivity should be determined by the following factors: applications, amperage of applications, interference: Applications (Stable arc, such as DC TIG, non-stable arc, MMA/STICK, MIG, Plasma etc.) Amperage of Applications (Extreme low, low-medium, medium-high) Interference (Direct strong sunlight, strong fluorescent lights, neighbor welding arc etc.)

Sensitivity settings

  • 1~2 The least sensitive setting – for high current non-stable arc applica-tions, in environments with strong interferences.
  • 3~4 For low current non-stable arc applications, in environments with strong interferences.
  • 5~6 Default setting – used for most types of welding, indoors and outdoors under normal ambient lights and/or low interferences
  • 7~8 For low current welding or stable arc applications, such as DC TIG.
  • 9 The most sensitive setting-suitable for very low current TIG welding or welding where part of the arc is  obscured from view. The lens is very sensitive and may become dark due to strong ambient lights or interferences. When not sure which number to use, the thumb of rule is to set higher number firstly, reduce one by one if interferences exists until the lens is not interfered.

NOTICE
IN SOME RARE EXTREME CASES, REDUCTION OF INTERFERENCES MAY BE REQUIRED FOR THE AUTO DARKENING LENS TO WORK PROPERLY. TIG AND APPLICATIONS WITH STABLER ARC REQUIRE HIGHER SENSITIVITY SETTINGS. SHADE LEVELS ARE GIVEN AS A GUIDE ONLY AND MAY BE VARIED TO SUIT INDIVIDUAL NEEDS.
GRIND
Press the „M“ button (7), until the Mode indicator is on „Grind“ (1), the helmet is set to grinding mode. Or, press the Quick access „GRIND“button (10) to toggle the lens between „GRIND“ and „non-GRIND“ mode. Warning: When the lens is on „GRIND“ Mode, it will not respond to any welding arc. Make sure it is not in „GRIND“ mode before starting welding.

Note: The „GRIND“ Mode will be deactivated automatically after 30 minutes of activation. Use quick access GRIND switch to activate again.

LOW POWER INDICATOR
If the low battery indicator(5) blinks once in each 3 seconds, the batteries are low and replacement is required immediately.

Battery replacement (*PICTURE 2)

Detach the auto−darkening filter from the helmet shield (Refer to RE-PLACEMENT OF WELDING FILTER).

  • Open the back cover counterclockwise.
  • Replace the battery with a new one.
  • Turn the back cover clockwise.

NEVER put used batteries into house hold waste because they are very toxic to the environment.
Please always have used batteries recycled properly and stay GREEN when welding.

Inner protection plate replacement (*PICTURE 3)

  • Put your nail into a groove in the middle of the bottom of the inner protection plate and pull it away.
  • Insert the new inner protection plate by sliding it into the prepared rails on the sides of the ADF.

ADF replacement (*PICTURE 4)

  • Remove the cover of the outer „GRIND“ button using screwdriver. Turn the „GRIND“ button so that it easily passes through the hole into the helmet.
  • Release the ADF retaing spring from the slot and remove ADF from the prepared frame in the helmet shell.
  • insert the ADF into the frame and secure by pressing the retaining spring back into the slot.
  • Insert „GRIND“ button back through the hole in the helmet shell and turn it around so that the cover can be attached back onto the „GRIND“ button.

Outer protection plate replacement

  • Put your thumb into an indent located below the bottom part of the protection plate and pull the plate out.
  • insert the new protection plate into the grooves on sides of ADF filter opening by bending it slightly..

CleanAIR® Verus WELDING HELMET AND HEADGEAR adjustment

*Headgear adjustment (PICTURE 5, 6, 8)**
The size of the headgear (head circumference) can be adjusted by turning the rear wheel in order to fit any head size. The depth of the headgear can be adjusted by repositioning the four vertical head straps. To release the head straps from the headgear, just pull the straps out of the pin-locks. Snap the head straps on the pin-locks when reaching the optimal position.

Headgear replacement
For headgear replacement press the black tabs on the top of the pivot point while sliding the headgear forward.
To insert the new headgear slide the rails into the groove on the pivot point. Both sides must be equally positioned.

Tilt (vertical viewing angle) adjustment (*PICTURE 8)

Tilt can be adjusted on the left side of the helmet by turning the tilt adjustment knob.Turning the knob clockwise will tilt the helmet downward, while turning counter-clokwise will tilt the helmet upward.

Distance Adjustment (*PICTURE 6)

Adjusts the distance between the face and the ADF by pressing the black tabs on the top of the pivot point while sliding the helmet forward or back-ward. Release the tabs when reaching the optimal position. Both sides must be equally positioned.

Air flow direction adjustment
The direction of the airflow to the lower part of the helmet can be adjusted with the adjustment lever outside the helmet (PICTURE 11), while the intensity can be adjusted with two sliders on the inside of the helmet. When both sliders are pushed up („-“) you maximize the airflow that comes directly towards your mouth.
When both sliders are pushed down („+“), the side air ducts open and the airflow is diverted to the sides, the airflow coming directly to your mouth is reduced.
Direction of air flow supplied to the lower part of the helmet can be adjusted by adjustment lever outside the helmet.(

Headgear mounting set replacement (*PICTURE 7)

Unscrew both tension knobs on the sides of the helmet and remove the mounting sets from the welding helmet.
Place the new mounting sets in the welding helmet with the square nut on both sides in the round hole of the helmet.
Make sure you have placed the rack on the pinion in the helmet. Screw the tension knobs on both sides into the square nut of the mounting sets and tighten them.
Secure with external screws to the square nut. (PICTURE 8).

Storage and shelf life
Store the welding helmet in a dry and clean place at room temperature, avoid direct sunlight (temperature range from -10 °C to +55 °C with relative humidity between 20 and 95 %). Longterm storage in temperatures above 45 °C can reduce the lifetime of the battery.
