Training:

  1. Choose a Location: Place the Mighty Paw Smart Bell on, or near, the door where your dog exits to go “potty”. Keep In mind that dogs typically use their nose to ring the bell once trained.

  2. Form a Connection: Introduction: First the dog must learn to engage with the button (activator). Do this by pointing to and pressing the activator using the term Ilka •push the button”. You can use peanut butter or another dog safe spread if your dog is hesitant to engage with the bell. Now encourage your dog to •push the button”. Praise and reward your dog with treats for activating the doorbell. Repeat this step for a few days.
••Note: If your dog Is sensitive to noise you can acclimate him or her by placing the receiver In another room and gradually bringing It closer. Connection: Now that your dog is acclimated to •pushing the button• each time you let your dog out to go to the bathroom, reach down, touch the bell (or have them touch the bell), and use a phrase such as “go potty”. Immediately let your dog out. Repeat this each time until your dog connects ringing the bell with being let out to go to the bathroom.

  3. Reinforce with Praise: Praise and/or give a treat only when”potty time· was a success. Your dog should associate the doorbell with potty time only. Consistency Is Key! Do not reward your dog for ringing the bell only to play outside.
