UJK Technology OTORO Palm Router Table has been licensed by OTORO DESIGN INC., Japan, based on the patented design of OTORO Multipurpose Compact Router Table TTX2.
The symbols below advise the correct safety procedures when using this machine.
Introduction
The UJK Technology Otoro Palm Router Table is a unique and ingenious piece of
equipment, well suited to the needs of any craftsperson wishing to make
smaller-sized, precision components. This makes it ideal for model makers,
dolls house constructors, or anyone who needs to accurately machine small
sections of timber.
It’s designed to be used with a quarter-inch router/ trimmer, either the Bosch
GKF 600 (702335), the Makita
RT0700CX2 (501867) or the DeWalt D26240K (952707).
The Makita router requires the use of a sleeve adaptor which is supplied with
the router table. Coarse and Fine Feed adjustments are provided to set the
height of the cutter above the table.
Once the table has been assembled, it can be conveniently stored in a small
cupboard and can be quickly clamped to any surface in a matter of seconds,
which means that it can be used almost anywhere in the house. Install the
router, connect the dust extractor to the 48.5mm port, and you’re ready for
business! Three modes of operation are possible with this router table;
preparing an edge, planning the board to width, and molding.
Edge preparation – The Rear Planing Fence consists of two sections; a
fixed outfeed and an adjustable infeed.
The adjustable part works by using a ‘folding wedge’ arrangement, where one
slides against the other to create the depth of cut. Accuracy is assured by a
10:1 scale, thus moving and locking the leading wedge 10mm produces a cut of
1mm. A feather board is included to keep the timber securely against the
fence.
Width planing – The Rear Planing Fence is replaced by the Rear
Featherboard Fence; The Front Fence, complete with a similar folding wedge
adjustment is used to set the planing width of the board. It should be noted
that in this unconventional, twin fence mode of routing, the Rear Featherboard
Fence pushes the material away from the cutter so that it’s forced onto the
adjustable Front Fence. In a normal router table, one fence is used and the
material is forced towards it by the feather boards. Thin strips of material
can also be prepared to thickness by sticking them to a wider carrier using
double-sided tape.
Molding – Mouldings can be produced by using the Rear Planing Fence in
the same mode of operation as edge preparation. Different sized cutters can be
used by changing the table insert, a selection of which can be conveniently
stored underneath the table.

PARTS ILLUSTRATION & DESCRIPTION
ROUTER TABLE MODES
Planing Mode
- Using a known straight edge set the fence flush with the cutter, see figs 1-2.
- The in-feed fence works on a router of 10-1 so when the scale reads 5mm this will make a 0.5mm cut, see figs 3-4.
Planing Width Mode
- Set up the router table as shown in figure 1.
- With the timber in position, adjust the front planing fence so the timber is in contact with the router cutter’s body, see fig 2. (NOTE: Not the TCT blade) This will create a 1mm cut.
- Start your router and make the first cut, see fig 3. Measure the timber’s thickness using a ruler or vernier caliper. Using the 10-1 scale, (10mm on the scale creates a 1mm cut). Make further cuts to the required thickness, see figs 4-5-6-7-8-9-10.
Moulding Mode
- Set the cutter’s height using the operating lever, see fig 1-2.
- Set both fences so they are in line with the bearing of the cutter, see fig 3.
- Before making your first cut, make sure the material is firmly against the in-feed fence, (more right to left), see fig 4.
- Apply even pressure when cutting until the material exits the out-feed fence, see fig 5.
Planing Width Tips
If you want to Plane thin strips of timber, follow the steps as shown using
double-sided tape, see figs 1 to 7.
