Safety Instructions
- Refer to and read the instruction manual/booklet.
- Class 2 appliance.
- Wear eye protection.
- Wear ear protection.
- Date of manufacture.
Personal Safety
- Stay alert, watch what you are doing, and use common sense when operating a power tool.
- Do not use tool while tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
- Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Contain long hair. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
- Avoid accidental starting. Be sure the switch is off before plugging in. Carrying tools with your finger on the switch or plugging in tools that have the switch “ON” invites accidents.
- Remove adjusting keys or wrenches before turning the power tool “ON”. A wrench or a key that is left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
- Do not overreach. Always keep proper footing and balance. Proper footing and balance enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
- Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection must be used for appropriate conditions.
Tool Use and Care
- Use clamps or other practical ways to secure and support the work piece to a stable platform. Holding the work by hand or against your body is unstable and may lead to loss of control.
- Do not force tool. Use the correct tool for your application. The correct tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed.
- Do not use the tool if the power switch does not turn it “ON” or “OFF”. A tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
- Disconnect the power cord plug from the power source before making any adjustments, changing accessories or storing the tool. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the tool accidentally.
- Store idle tools out of reach of children and other untrained persons. Tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
- Maintain tools with care. Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained tools with a sharp cutting edge are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
- Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts, and any other condition that may affect the tool’s operation. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained tools.
- Use only accessories that are recommended by the manufacturer for your model.
- Accessories that may be suitable for one tool may become hazardous when used on another tool.
Important Safety Rules for Rotary Tools
-
Hold the tool by the insulated gripping surfaces when performing an operation where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring. Contact with a “live” wire will also make exposed metal parts of the tool “live” and shock the operator.
-
Always check the speed rating of accessories. This tool will spin accessories at up to 30 000 rpm. Accessories not rated for speeds this high will very likely fly apart and could cause serious injury.
-
Let the rotary tool come to a complete stop before putting it down. The motor must be switched off and the moving parts must have stopped.
-
Do not engage the shaft lock button if the tool shaft is still turning.
-
Switch off the tool immediately and unplug it if the tool locks up for any reason.
-
Never wear gloves when operating the tool. Use gloves only when changing hot bits and accessories to avoid burns.
-
Rotary bits and tools get hot during operation. Wear gloves when touching them.
-
Do not use in damp or wet locations. Do not operate tool in an explosive atmosphere, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust.
-
Power tools create sparks, which may cause an explosion or fire.
-
Loss of control can cause personal injury.
-
This power tool is intended to function as a grinder, sander, wire brush, or polisher. Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
-
Use as intended only. Operations for which the power tool was not designed may create a hazard and cause personal injury.
-
Do not use accessories which are not specifically designed and recommended by the tool manufacturer. Just because the accessory can be attached to your power tool, it does not assure safe operation.
-
The rated speed of the accessory must be at least equal to the maximum speed marked on the power tool. Accessories running faster than their rated speed can
break and fly apart. -
The outside diameter and the thickness of your accessory must be within the capacity rating of your power tool. Incorrectly sized accessories cannot be adequately guarded or controlled.
-
The arbor size of wheels, flanges, backing pads or any other accessory must properly fit the collet of the power tool. Accessories with arbor holes that do not match the mounting hardware of the power tool will run out of balance, vibrate excessively and may cause loss of control.
-
Do not use a damaged accessory. Before each use inspect the accessory such as abrasive wheels for chips and cracks, backing pad for cracks, tear or excess wear, wire brush for loose or cracked wires. If power tool or accessory is dropped, inspect for damage or install an undamaged accessory. After inspecting and installing an accessory, position yourself and bystanders away from the plane of the rotating accessory and run the power tool at maximum no-load speed for one minute. Damaged accessories will normally break apart during this test time.
-
Wear personal protective equipment. Depending on application, use face shield, safety goggles or safety glasses. As appropriate, wear dust mask, hearing protectors, gloves and workshop apron capable of stopping small abrasive or work piece fragments. The eye protection must be capable of stopping flying debris generated by various operations. The dust mask or respirator must be capable of filtering out particles generated by your operation. Prolonged exposure to high intensity noise may cause hearing loss.
-
Keep bystanders a safe distance away from work area. Anyone entering the work area must wear personal protective equipment. Fragments of work piece or of a broken accessory may fly away and cause injury beyond immediate area of operation.
-
Hold power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only, when performing an operation where the accessory may contact hidden wiring or its own cord. An accessory contacting a “live” wire may make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and shock the operator.
-
Never lay the power tool down until the accessory has come to a complete stop. The spinning accessory may grab the surface and pull the power tool out of your control.
-
Do not run the power tool while carrying it at your side. Accidental contact with the spinning accessory could snag your clothing, pulling the accessory into your body.
-
Regularly clean the power tool’s air vents. The motor’s fan will draw the dust inside the housing and excessive accumulation of powdered metal may cause electrical hazards.
-
Do not operate the power tool near flammable materials. Sparks could ignite these materials.
-
Do not use accessories that require liquid coolants. Using water or other liquid coolants may result in electrocution or shock.
-
Maintain labels and nameplates on the tool. These carry important safety information.
-
Avoid unintentional starting. Prepare to begin work before turning on the tool.
-
Do not depress the spindle lock when starting or during operation.
-
Do not leave the tool unattended when the Battery Pack is connected. Turn off the tool and remove the Battery Pack before leaving.
-
This product is not a toy. Keep it out of reach of children.
-
People with pacemaker should consult their physician(s) before use. Electromagnetic fields in close proximity to heart pacemaker could cause pacemaker interference or pacemaker failure.
Safety Warnings Specific for Grinding and Abrasive Cutting-Off Operations
-
Use only wheel types that are recommended for your power tool and the specific guard designed for the selected wheel. Wheels for which the power tool was not designed cannot be adequately guarded and are unsafe.
-
Wheels must be used only for recommended applications. For example: do not grind with the side of cut-off wheel. Abrasive cut-off wheels are intended for peripheral grinding, side forces applied to these wheels may cause them to shatter.
-
Always use undamaged wheel flanges that are of correct size and shape for your selected wheel. Proper wheel flanges support the wheel thus reducing the possibility of wheel breakage. Flanges for cut-off wheels may be different from grinding wheel flanges.
-
Do not use worn down wheels from larger power tools. Wheel intended for larger power tool is not suitable for the higher speed of a smaller tool and may burst.
-
Dress appropriately. Do not wear pants with cuffs, shirts with open pockets, or any clothing that can catch and hold hot metal or sparks.
Safety Warnings Specific for Wire Brushing Operations -
Be aware that wire bristles are thrown by the brush even during ordinary operation. Do not overstress the wires by applying excessive load to the brush. The wire bristles can easily penetrate light clothing and/or skin.

Operation
This tool can be used for drilling, sanding and polishing, as well as engraving, cutting and removing rust in tight spaces. The tool can be used on most metals, glass, wood and ceramics. For best performance and results, keep the speed as even as possible without exercising too much pressure. As a guideline, use the tool at low speed for all large accessories, such as polishing, and at high speed for smaller accessories, such as those used for engraving. For grinding and engraving, hold the tool as if it were a pen.
Useful Hints and Tips
- The tool will become warm after prolonged use and must be switched off to cool it down.
- To ensure smooth running, periodically oil the shaft.
- Do not apply too much radial pressure to the accessory bits while polishing, cleaning, sanding or grinding. By doing this, you will put strain on the shaft and adversely affect the precision of the tool. Always work with a sensitive
- touch so as not to impede the efficiency of the tool.
- When drilling in metal, always mark the drilling point with a centre punch so that the drill will not slip.
- Always ensure that you have maximum contact between the accessory shaft and the collet.
Start-Up
Never start up the tool if the accessory is in contact with the piece to be
worked on. Hold it firmly and press the on-off switch. The tool will run
continuously until the on-off switch is flicked to the off position. Adjust
the speed while the tool is running.
Speed Adjustment
This tool is equipped with a speed control. The speed switch is located on the
rear of the tool. Turn it slightly to increase or decrease the speed.
Mounting Accessories
Always remove the plug from the mains prior to assembly. Hold the collet lock
button while unscrewing the collet nut and screw the accessory in place. Hold
the collet lock button while you are fastening the collet nut. Do not operate
the collet lock button while the device is still connected with the mains.
Mounting the Flexible Driver
Remove the housing cap and the collet nut. Partially extract the internal
transmission cable from the flexible driver, insert the cable into the collet
and screw the driver onto the tool. Keep the shaft lock button pressed as you
do it.
Mounting Accessories on the Flexible Driver
All accessories can be mounted onto the flexible driver. Follow the same
general procedure for mounting accessories on the tool.
Using a Support (not incl.)
It is advisable to use a bench support when using the flexible driver. Also,
