How to care for your home.
Cleaning your Lomi
Knowing how to keep Lomi clean is important so that it stays looking great and
also continues to function at its best. We recommend cleaning the Lomi
exterior once a month or as frequently as you would clean any other kitchen
appliance. To keep your Lomi at optimal performance, clean the interior of the
bucket routinely. Ensure your Lomi is unplugged before cleaning. To wash the
exterior of Lomi, simply wipe with a damp dishcloth. If your Lomi is
particularly dirty, add a small amount of dish soap to your cleaning process.
Finally use a dry cloth to remove excess moisture. Never submerge your Lomi
underwater. There are electrical components and any excess water would cause
significant damage and could cause electric shock.
Cleaning the Bucket
The bucket can be easily removed and washed by hand or placed in the
dishwasher, for a more thorough cleaning. Ensure the bucket is free from any
excess dirt/particles before placing it in the dishwasher. This should be run
on a hot cycle. As the bucket is made from metal be sure to let it cool down
before handling and placing it back inside the Lomi unit.
Changing Filters
The change filter light will illuminate every 3-6 months depending upon your
usage. Unplug the unit before replacing the filters’ activated carbon.
Back Filter
- Open the back panel of the unit and remove the rectangular filter box.
- Twist the wing nuts off to open the filter box and dispose of the used activated carbon.
- Pour the new activated carbon into the filter box.
- Twist the wing nuts back on and place the rectangular filter box back in the unit.
- Shut the back panel of the unit.
Top Filter
- Open the lid, remove the cylindrical filter, and twist off the top.
- Dispose of the used activated carbon and pour in the new activated carbon into the cylindrical filter.
- Twist the top back on and insert the cylindrical filter back into Lomi.
- Plug Lomi in.
Tips for Performance
- The greater the variety of fruits and vegetables in your food waste and scraps, the better your Lomi end product!
- Have an even mix of light and heavy food scraps interspersed.
- Do not leave your unprocessed waste for a long period of time (over a week). Run a smaller cycle if necessary.
- Tuck bioplastic materials on the sides of the bucket rather than just placing them on top.
- Avoid large amounts of dense or moisture-rich composition foods such as condiments and high sugar fruits.
- Use LomiPods to improve waste breakdown, increase biotic content, and further suppress odors.
How to feed your garden with long
What comes out of Lomi doesn’t have to end there. The Compost Starter that Grow mode produces can be used to feed your garden. Grow mode’s compost is ready to be added to your garden soil in a ratio of 1 part Grow mode’s compost to 10 parts soil. Evenly mix Lomi’s grow compost with your soil and watch your plants thrive. The Lomi filter contents once used up, can also be used as an additive to your soil! Mix in a ratio of 1 part activated carbon to 6 parts soil.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of our key questions and answers. For our full list of
Frequently Asked Question questions, head to pela.earth/lomifaq
What mix of waste and bioplastics is best for the machine? Can I do a load
with just bioplastics?
Based on testing, 10% maximum bioplastic in relation to food waste/organic
waste is optimal. Do not try to go over this. Putting in only bioplastics is
not recommended. it needs to be mixed with organic waste.
Can I run a half load? How full is the minimum and maximum?
You can run a load as small as you want, however, there is a line on the
bucket indicating the maximum capacity. Lomi will run with low content
capacity, however, the cycle may complete faster. DO NOT RUN EMPTY!
If I open the lid or Lomi stops or is unplugged in the middle of running,
is it hot? What do I do to start it up again?
The bucket and contents will be hot CAUTION DO NOT TOUCH! There may be some
steam so STAND BACK. To restart, close the lid and press start, it starts the
whole cycle again but will still process the waste. The cycle might take a
shorter time with half-processed waste.
What do the additives really do? The additives are a proprietary blend of
probiotics that improve the speed of degradation, the reduction of smell, and
most importantly help create the most healthy end product to add to your
gardens/lawn/planters.
Can Lomi sit with unprocessed waste for a few days while I fill it? Will
that smell?
A few days are okay. Filter odor control is not active while Lomi is not
running, so you might smell it. We recommend running a smaller cycle if you
can so that you are not leaving waste in there for too long.
