Read these instructions completely and carefully.
Ensure that package includes installation guide, warning label to be attached to luminaire, LED T5 tube. Minimum fi xture volume for (6) 4’ lamps is 48 inches long x 22 inches wide x 2 inches deep. Minimum socket spacing is 3.1 inches apart. Minimum fi xture volume for (4) 3’ lamps is 38 inches long x 22 inches wide x 2 inches deep. Minimum fi xture volume for (4) 2’ lamps is 24 inches long x 22 inches wide x 2 inches deep. Minimum socket spacing is 5.5 inches apart. Product is not intended to be used with dimmers or emergency lighting. This LED T5 tube is not suitable for direct replacement of linear fl uorescent lamps in luminaires where the lamps are connected to a ballast. The technical and safety requirements of the converted luminaire are the sole responsibility of the party doing the conversion and shall comply with the local applicable safety and regulatory laws and standards. The provided Caution label should be placed onto the converted luminaire to indicate that the luminaire has been modifi ed and can no longer be used with conventional fl uorescent lamps.
WARNING
RISK OF FIRE OR ELECTRIC SHOCK: LED Retrofi t Kit installation requires knowledge of luminaire electrical systems. If not qualifi ed, do not attempt installation. Contact a qualifi ed electrician. Install this kit only in luminaries that have the construction features and dimensions shown in the drawings and where the input rating of the retrofi t kit does not exceed the input rating of the luminaire. To prevent wiring damage or abrasion, do not expose wiring to edges of sheet metal or other sharp objects. Installers should not disconnect existing wires from lampholder terminals to make new connections at lampholder terminals. Instead installers should cut existing lampholder leads away from the lampholder and make new electrical connections to the lampholder lead wires by employing applicable connectors (or replace with new shunted lamp holders). THE RETROFIT KIT IS ACCEPTED AS A COMPONENT OF A LUMINAIRE WHERE THE SUITABILITY OF THE COMBINATION SHALL BE DETERMINED BY AUTHORITIES HAVING JURISDICTION. PRODUCT MUST BE INSTALLED BY A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE APPLICABLE AND APPROPRIATE ELECTRICAL CODES. THE INSTALLATION GUIDE DOES NOT SUPERSEDE LOCAL OR NATIONAL REGULATIONS FOR ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS. Do not make or alter any open holes in an enclosure of wiring or electrical components during kit installation. Installers should examine all parts that are not intended to be replaced by the retrofi t kit for damage and replace any damaged parts prior to installation of the retrofi t kit. This lamp operates directly from 120V-277V mains. Do not use Ballast or any starting aid. Do not connect to a voltage higher than 277 volts. To reduce risk of misapplication, Current recommends installing the Fuse Kit (BT8-1AFUSEKIT) in series with the Phase or Hot lead and the SHUNTED (Instant Start style) lamp holder(s) per the wiring diagrams below. Only one fuse kit is needed for up to 4 tubes in the same fi xture at 277V. Ensure the lamp holders are SHUNTED for Double Ended T5 applications.
Installation Instructions
-
Ensure power is off to luminaire by disconnecting the supply voltage.
-
Remove all fluorescent lamps and ballast/ wiring area cover. Cut the ballast lead wires about 6 inches away from each lamp holder.
-
If two wires come from an existing lamp holder (rapid start type), these two wires should be wired or shunted together.
-
Connect the recommended fuse and fuseholder (not supplied) to the black (hot) wire from the mains.
-
Connect together all of the lampholder leads on one side and connect to the other side of the recommended fuse with suitable wire.
-
Connect together all of the lamp holder leads on the other side of the fi xture and connect to the white or neutral wire from the mains.
-
Replace the ballast / wiring area cover, ensuring no wires are pinched between the cover and the fi xture.
-
Install the retrofi t kit Caution label in an easy to see location to ensure the user understands the system now uses LED Type B double ended tubes, and the use of fluorescent lamps may result in damage or injury.
-
Install Type B double ended tubes.
-
Re-apply power to fi xture and ensure proper operation.
