Working principle

The WC8708 contains a receiver which receives a radio=signal from a radio station located at Mainflingen near Frankfurt, Germany. This long=wave radio=signal (DCF77, 77.5 kHz) is based on atomic clocks and contains time and date information. For more information refer to www.ptb.de (PTB = Physicalist= Technische Bundesanstalt). The WC8708 automatically synchronizes with this master clock radio=signal. Due to its nature, the radio=signal can be received indoors. However, it should be noted that the signal is weakened by the presence of concrete and metal. Therefore the clock must not be installed in concrete basements or inside metal cages. In large concrete office buildings or apartments, the clock should be located near a window for better reception. Also avoid installing the clock near strong magnetic fields or other devices that generate a lot of electrical noise (e.g. engines).

Setting

Refer to the illustrations on page 2 of this manual.

Insert batteries in the battery compartment [G] (see §10).

Time setting

Choose a location for the clock (refer to §5). The clock can be wall mounted or placed on a desktop using the included stand.
Wait until the clock receives the synchronization signal from the master clock. The clock will attempt to contact the master clock for 7 minutes. It
will automatically synchronize once every day at a fixed time (2:00 in the morning). Note that the received signal is usually stronger at night time.
During synchronization, the DCF=icon flashes. Once synchronized, the icon is fixed on the display.
When the clock doesn’t receive the radio=signal, it will not show the DCF= icon and starts running showing the wrong time. The clock can be set to
the correct time manually (see below).
To force wave detection, press and hold the CF= button [F] for ±5s. Note that frequent use of this feature will shorten battery life time.
To stop wave detection, press the CF= button [F] for ±2s.
Default the clock is in 24h format. Press the UP=button [E] to switch to 12h format (AM or PM indicated in front of the time). Press and hold the CF= button [F] for ±5s to re=synchronize the clock.

Setting the date / clock manually

The date and time can be set manually when the clock is used in a place without DCF reception (e.g. a basement) or in case synchronization is temporarily not possible. Note that because of atmospheric conditions at night time the DCF signal is stronger and travels further.
Press and hold the SET=button [C] for ±5s. The display shows the year (flashing).
To change the setting, use the UP=[E] or DOWN=[F] button. Press the SET=button [C] to confirm and move to the next adjustable parameter. Parameter sequence = year – month – date – day language = hour – minutes – time zone offset = exit language options are: EN (English), GE (German), DA (Danish), ES (Spanish), NE (Dutch), FR (French) or IT (Italian).
If no key is pressed within 8s the clock returns to normal operation.

Alarm setting

Press and hold the ALARM=button [D] for ±5s. The display shows the alarm time; the hours are flashing.
To change the setting, use the UP=[E] or DOWN=[F] button.
Press the ALARM=button [D] to confirm and move to the minutes=setting.
After setting the alarm minutes, press the ALARM=button [D] to confirm and exit to normal display.
If no key is pressed within 8s the clock returns to normal operation.

Operation

Alarm handling

To enable the alarm, press the ALARM=button [D] shortly. The alarm=icon appears. To disable it, press the ALARM=button [D] again.
When the set time is reached, the alarm will sound. Format:
- 0~10s: 1 beep per second
- 11~20s: 2 beeps per second
- 21~30s: 4 beeps per second
- 31~120s: continuous beep.
To go into snooze mode, press the SNOOZE=button [A]. The alarm is postponed for ±5 minutes and the snooze=icon appears.
Pressing any other button will stop and exit the alarm. Weather forecast [4]
The weather icon shows a forecast of the weather for the next 24h.
There are 4 icons:
Place the weather station in a natural ventilated area (e.g. not in a room with air=conditioning) to get more accurate results.

Temperature display [5]

The temperature range is 0~50°C (32~122°F).
To switch between °C and °F display, press the CF button [F] shortly.
The trend indicator is based on the difference between a recorded temperature and the current temperature. When the current temperature is at least 1°C higher\ than the recorded, the arrow will point up and the current temperature becomes the recorded. If the temperature is at least 1°C lower than the recorded value, the arrow will point down and the current temperature becomes the recorded. In all other cases, the arrow will be flat.

Note: the recorded temperature is set to the current temperature at start=up or reset of the weather station.

Humi dity display [6]

Maintenance

Gently wipe the device regularly with a moist, lint=free cloth. Do not use alcohol or solvents. Do not apply pressure on the display.
Never submerge the weather station in any liquid.

Battery

When the battery low icon is shown, insert batteries into the battery compartment [G] at the back of the weather station.
Open the battery cover [G] and insert two new 1.5V type AA batteries (not incl.) following the polarity markings inside the battery compartment.
Close the battery cover [G].

WARNING:
Do not puncture or throw batteries in fire as they might explode. Do not attempt to recharge non rechargeable batteries (Alkaline). Dispose of batteries in accordance with local regulations. Keep batteries away from children.
