How to put on a Ring Sling

CONGRATULATIONS! You have decided to carry your child!

The physical and psychological benefits of babywearing are numerous for both the child and the adult.
It is practical   and comfortable. It allows close, reassuring and comforting contact for the child, thus promoting well-being and rest. The closeness, the gaze, the caresses reinforce the bond of attachment, thanks to a natural stimulation of oxytocin production (the attachment hormone). Babywearing facilitates digestion and the evacuation of gas from the child’s digestive system, while reducing reflux problems. It allows freedom of movement and action for the adult during daily activities. It also may help mothers to succeed with breastfeeding.

  1. Hold the rings between your shoulder and your chest with one hand. It does not matter which shoulder the rings are on. The fabric is draped flat across your back (it is also possible to do a 180° twist to carry newborn). Then grab the top rail of the fabric with the other hand (shown in pink).
  2. Pass the fabric through both rings.
  3. Make sure that the fabric is not twisted. Separate the rings.
  4. Pass the fabric through the upper ring.
  5. Ensure the fabric is spread out smoothly through the rings with both ends of the rail on each side.
  6. Place one arm through the Ring Sling to provide a seat for your baby. The 2 rings are high on your shoulder (because they will move down a little during adjusting the Ring Sling).
  7. Bring your baby upto your shoulder (opposite the rings) supported safety with your hands. Grab his feet from under the fabric and gently slide him into the Ring Sling. Allow your baby’s bottom to sit in the bottom of pouch. Knees should be higher then their bottom.
  8. The child’s physiological position is the « frog » position. The seat is deep. Fabric forming the seat stretches from knee to knee. The child’s knees are higher than his/her buttocks and hips. The back is rounded. The natural hip/knee/ankle axis is respected.
  9. Grab the top rail of the fabric and unfold it over the child’s back. The excess fabric is under the child’s bottom.
  10. The fabric on the child’s back is well stretched and pulled up to the back of the neck.
  11. Start to adjust and tighten the Ring Sling with the top rail. Tighten the fabric “horizontally ” (towards the child) across the entire width (from top to bottom rail, every 5 centimeters) so that the Ring Sling is tightly stretched over the child’s back.
  12. The child is correctly positioned!

To take out the child from the Ring Sling, hold him on you. Release the fabric tension by lifting the top ring. Once the fabric has slackened, remove the Ring Sling over your child’s head.
