HOW TO USE:

Connect the karabiner (EN362) to be held in the major axis positioning and protects the end of the lanyard from wear; clip a locking karabiner (auto locking preferred) through the attachment point (A or 1/2 A+ 1/2 A); make sure that the line is taut; attach the anchor line to a secure anchor point EN795; make sure that the rope grab is at the user shoulders level and not under it. Always check the legibility of the product markings. The equipment becomes wet, either from being in use or when due to cleaning, it shall be allowed to dry naturally, and shall be kept away from direct heat. Verify that this product is compatible with other elements of the system in your application (compatible = good functional interaction). Other types of edges are not allowed and use is prohibited. To be used in horizontal condition, the anchorage point must be located at the same level as the edge, where the risk of fall exists. In order to avoid pendulum effects, the working area must not exceed a 30° angle limit, from each side of the vertical of the anchorage point. IMPORTANT: Despite this test, the following must be observed for all cases during horizontal or sloping use where there is a risk of falling over an edge:

  1. If the hazard evaluation performed before commencing work reveals that the fall edge involves particularly “sharp cutting” and / or “burred” edge (e.g. uncovered parapet walls or sharp concrete edge and if devices with fasteners made from webbings are to be used:
  2. Corresponding precautions must be taken so that a fall over the edge is precluded, or
  3. An edge protection must be mounted before commencing work, or
  4. The manufacturer must be contacted
  5. The suspension point of the fall arrester must not be below the standing area (e.g. platform, flat roof) of the user. (picture 3)
  6. The deflection at the edge (measured between the two flanges of the joints and fastenings) must be at least 90°.
  7. The required headroom below the edge is depicted in picture 5.
  8. In order to prevent a swinging fall, the work area or side movements from the centre axis must be restricted to max. 1.50m. In other cases, no individual anchorage points, but instead e.g. stopping devices of class C (only if approved for joint use) or D as per EN795 must be used.
  9. Note: When using the fall arrester on a stopping device of class C corresponding to EN795 with a horizontally moving guide, the deflection of the stopping device must also be taken into consideration when ascertaining the required clearance height below the user. The information in the instructions for use must be observed for this.
  10. Note: In the case of fall over an edge, there is a risk of injury during the catching process as a result of the falling person hitting building parts or structural parts.
  11. Special measures for rescuing must be specified and practiced for the event of a fall over the edge.
  12. Note: Fall arrest devices identified with picture “A”, “B”, “C” and “D” are not suited for fall impacts over unprotected edges (e.g. retractable Dyneema or Stainless steel rope lanyards).

CONNECTORS

According to the Regulation (EU) 2016/425

INSTRUCTION MANUAL
WARNING: READ ALL INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THE TWO INSTRUCTIONS: GENERAL AND SPECIFIC.

SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS

  • Before using the Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) you must read carefully and understand the safety information described on general instruction and the specific equipment instructions.
  • ATTENTION!!! If you have any doubt about the product, if you need others language version of the instructions for use, declarations of conformity or any question about the PPE, please contact us: www.fallsafe-online.com.
  • WARNING: The manufacturer and the seller decline any responsibility in case of incorrect use, improper application or modifications/ reparations by persons not authorized by FALL SAFE®. These instructions contain all the necessary information for the correct and safe use of the connectors (EN362) in the fields of activity. The connectors covered by these instructions are personal protection devices designed to be integrated in fall arrest personal protection systems such as harnesses, lanyards, and anchor devices. The connectors are a vital transmission component of the mechanical resistance between a proper anchor point and the user who accidentally fall. A malfunction due to improper use of the equipment is dangerous for the physical health of the user. The connector must be used as follows: closed – with the closing system locked – without any constrictions or other pressures on the outer side of the connector. Only some of these incorrect uses are included in these instructions and these are indicated with a cross over the illustrations. Only the ways indicated as “OK” are allowed.
  • When a connector is inserted in any fall arrest system, in order to regulate the other components correctly and not compromise the efficiency of the system, you must take into account the length of the connector. The closing system must function perfectly and to help assure this the connector must be lubricated. These devices have been designed for use in weather conditions normally tolerated by man.

TYPES OF CONNECTORS FOR PERSONAL PROTECTION (EN 362:2004)

  • Class A – Anchor connectors: component designed to be linked directly to a specific type of anchor;
  • Class B – Basic connectors: intended to be used as a component;
  • Class M – Multi-use connectors: component which may be loaded in the major and minor axis;
  • Class T – Termination connectors: element of a sub-system in which the loading acts on a predetermined direction;
  • Class Q – Screw gate connectors: intended to be used only for enduring or permanent connections. The class identification is marked on the device. Refer to table to identify the rank and the maximum gate opening (“a” in mm) of your connector.
  • Use only anchor’s complying with the EN 795 with a minimum breaking strength of 12 kN. While using the connector and other personal protective devices, the user must always remain below the anchor point. The position and the height of the anchor point from the ground must be calculated in the view of a possible fall, taking into account the length of the rope, any dangerous “obstacles” and the possibility of a “swinging” effect. The work must be carried out in such way as to minimize both the potential fall and potential fall distance.
  • WARNING: The connectors equipped with a manual-locking gate (screw gate) are to be used only when the opening and closing operations are not frequent.
  • When using these connectors the screw must be completely closed; for connectors class Q it must be verify that the threads of the screw are not visible. Avoid loading the connector across its gate. Verify that a technical identification and equipment record in conformity with standard EN 365:2004 is provided with the product. This recorder must be filled in and kept updated by the user. If the recorder is missing, do not use the device. ALWAYS CHECK before, after and during use that the connector works properly. ALWAYS REPLACE the connector after a fall even if no defect or damage are visible; the initial resistance of the connector could be seriously reduced. The possibility of re-using the device must be authorized exclusively by the producer with a prior written consent that reserves the right to carry out appropriated examinations and testing. Any repair should only be carried out in accordance with producer’s procedures.
  • WARNING: replace the connector that shows signs of wear and corrosion.
  • WARNING: replace the connector if the opening and/or closing/locking are difficult. Clean the connectors with water and dry it with a non-abrasive cloth. When using CATCH-FREE System connectors, pay particular attention to the slot on the lever: it has to be dirt-free (soil, mud, gravel, etc. – list not exhaustive). In the case of use on icy conditions make sure that the slot on the lever is not obstructed by snow or ice.
  • FS830 – Particularity: The hook must always be used with the gate locked. Unlock and opening the gate single-handedly. To open the gate, lift the ring and press in on the opposite gate direction. To locking the mechanism on the hook engages automatically when the hook´s gate is released. Check if the gate it´s closed and locked properly without any obstruct.
