ASTOR 6376 Two Unit Super Heterodyne Car Radio

ASTOR-6376-Two-Unit-Super-Heterodyne-Car-Radio-PRODUCT

The “Astor” is the latest development in car radio. It is an extremely powerful 2, unit 6-valve superheterodyne receiver. It incorporates many new features, such as Synchro, tuning, Automatic Tone Control, Interference Reducer, and Delayed Automatic Volume Control.

TO SWITCH ON THE RECEIVER

The power is turned on by turning the Volume Control in a clockwise direction. Advance the volume control halfway, and allow an interval for the tubes to heat to the point of operation.

TO TUNE THE RECEIVER

  • Rotate the Station Selector knob slowly until a station is heard. Tune this station in until the minimum amount of background noise is heard. Increa.se or decrease the volume to the desired level by adjusting the Volume Control knob. Careful tuning will result in
  • better tone qualities from all stations. It is of the utmost importance that the receiver be tuned right on the station-tuning off to one side, even though the signal is heard -results in very poor tone quality and very mushy reception.

TO SWITCH OFF THE RECEIVER
Turn Volume Control in an anti-clockwise direction as far as it will go. A distinct click will be heard as the current is switched off.

TONE CONTROL

The receiver is equipped with an Automatic Tone Control.

INTERFERENCE REDUCER
On Models Nos. 6376 and 12376, the Interference Reducer knob will be found attached to the speaker. On Model No. 6376F, the special “Astor” receiver for Ford cars, the Interfer, and Reducer knob will be found on the receiver. When this knob is turned clockwise, the high-frequency reproduction is attenuated. Most outside electrical interference is of a high-frequency character. When the Interference Reducer is used in its full anti-clockwise position, it is inclined to cause slight distortion in the reproduction. It, therefore, should never be used in this position except in localities subject to a lot of outside electrical interference.

AUTOMATIC VOLUME CONTROL

The receiver is provided with Automatic Volume Control, which changes the sensitivity of the receiver automatically with the strength of the incoming signals. After a signal is tuned in, the volume is adjusted by means of manual volume control until the desired intensity is obtained. The Automatic Volume Control then tends to keep the volume at this level, regardless of whether the incoming signal changes in strength

SYNCH RO-TUNING.
Synchro, tuning allows the aerial circuit in the receiver to be correctly adjusted to each individual car aerial in order that best results may be obtained. The synchro, tuning requires adjusting only once when the radio is installed in the car. It needs no further adjustment unless the radio is installed in another car

NOTE.
As you travel from place to place, you will find that trams, electric trains, electrical installations, etc., will cause interference noises in your receiver. Complete elimination of such noises is impossible, as they are picked up by the aerial. Proper installation should, nevertheless, eliminate most electrical interference noises caused by the ignition system of the car, so that in normal areas very little interference noise should be heard in the radio. You will find also that such things as high buildings, mountain ranges, and tall trees–which you pass on your journeywill have a decided effect on reception. For no apparent reason, certain districts in Australia in the Radio World as .. dead spots “-will prevent you from obtaining good reception.
