Safety

Safety definitions
Warnings, cautions and notes are used to point out specially important parts of the manual.

  • WARNING: Used if there is a risk of injury or death for the operator or bystanders if the instructions in the manual are not obeyed.
  • CAUTION: Used if there is a risk of damage to the product, other materials or the adjacent area if the instructions in the manual are not obeyed.
  • Note: Used to give more information that is necessary in a given situation.

General safety instructions

  • WARNING: Read the Operator’s Manual carefully and make sure you understand the instructions before you use the product.
  • WARNING: No PPE can offer full protection against injury.
  • Use of this product does not decrease the need for safe operation of the chainsaw.
  • Carefully read all safety instructions applicable to your chainsaw.
  • The required level of protection is dependent on several parameters, such as working techniques, the power of the chainsaw, the sharpness of the chain, the chain speed, and the angle and contact force when in contact with PPE (chain speed is only one parameter in the test rig; a chain speed of 20 m/s in the test does not necessarily correlate with a hand held chainsaw being operated at 20 m/s; this should be taken into account, together with the experience of the user when selecting suitable PPE).
  • A jacket’s maximum protection will only be available when the garment is fully closed.
  • Make sure that the saw protection of the protective clothes overlaps the saw protection of the footwear, or the gloves.
  • The condition of the protective equipment should be checked regularly. The garment should be scrapped and not used again if the protective material has been damaged, incorrectly washed, altered from its original shape. The protective qualities may be reduced in these cases.
  • Damaged outer material must be repaired immediately in order to prevent the protective material becoming damaged.
  • Keep the protective clothes away from sharp objects, acids, oils, solvents, fuels and animal droppings.
  • Clean the protective clothes immediately in case it has been subjected to petrol, oil, grease or other flammable materials. Fire hazard!
  • For maximum protection, it is important that the correct size is selected. Garments should be selected so that they do not restrict movement in any way.
  • Do not use a belt or other equipment which can be strapped on the garment. Accessories can reduce the protective capabilities.
  • The garment may not protect sufficiently against cuts with some modified chains or chains not primarily designed for forestry (e.g. some rescue chains). In case of doubt, the user shall contact the manufacturer of the saw chain.
