HDB6000 GETTING STARTED
User Guide
This quick start guide has basic information for the use and safe operation of this machine. However, the owner’s manual has important, detailed information. Carefully read both before starting your new RIDGID vacuum.
CARTON CONTENTS:
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS:
WARNING
TO REDUCE THE RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK OR INJURY, REFER TO OWNER’S MANUAL
FOR ALL SAFETY WARNINGS!
REVIEW the SAFETY LABEL on the vacuum. For additional safety information, read the vacuum owner’s manual.
ALWAYS hold the plug, not the cord, when plugging in or unplugging the vacuum.
DO NOT vacuum liquids or expose the vacuum to rain or water. DO NOT use the vacuum outdoors or on wet surfaces. DO NOT handle the vacuum or plug with wet hands.
Do not tie the power cord to the vacuum harness, always use the cord management feature to safely hold the power cord. Inspect the cord thoroughly before each use. Tied cords can lead to cut, frayed or worn cord. A cut, frayed or worn cord can result in electric shock, fire or injury.
DO NOT vacuum flammable or combustible materials or anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches or hot ashes.
Turn OFF the unit before unplugging. Unplug the unit from the outlet before servicing.
DO NOT vacuum with a frayed, worn or damaged cord. Do not modify the vacuum plug.
DO NOT pull or carry the vacuum by the cord or use the cord as a handle.
QUICK START INSTRUCTIONS:
Unlatch the three clamps on the top of the unit and remove the Backpack Vac lid.
Check to make sure the filters are in place and have not shifted during
shipping.
Dry filter must be used within the cloth filter. Refer to filter maintenance
section of Owner’s Manual for more details.
Replace the lid and relatch the three clamps.
Push the hose 90 degree cuff into the lid inlet Vac port until snug.
ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY & USE:
Power cord should NOT be plugged into the wall outlet at this time. For your safety: Loop the power cord approximately 12-inches after the switch box. Position the power cord loop through the backside of the cord retainer and through the cord retainer slot. Slip the power cord loop over the cord retainer hook. Gently tug on the power cord to secure.
Attach locking end of one of the extension wands to the non-locking end of the second extension wand by pushing the two ends together until the locking tab goes over the lip of the second extension wand. Then, attach the desired floor tool, dusting brush or crevice tool to the remaining locking end of the combined extension wands using the same method.
First put on the Backpack Vac (instructions on back of page) and turn it ON. Then with the top of the wand at your waist, push the wand and accessory forward and backward as you walk to clean your workspace.

WEARING THE BACKPACK VAC:
HARNESS ADJUSTMENT:
The upper harness should sit between shoulder blades for most comfortable fit.
DO NOT adjust harness height while wearing the Backpack Vac.
To adjust the upper harness to fit your body height: Move the harness up or down to the correct position by unthreading both Backpack harness screws, washers and spacers from the Backpack Vac.
Realign the two screw holes at the new position. Replace the original two
screws, washers and spacers into the Backpack harness plastic support and
tightly securing it to the Backpack Vac.
Loosen the shoulder straps and the waist belt. Lift the Backpack Vac and slide your arms through the straps. The upper harness can also be adjusted by tightening or loosening the upper harness buckles.
Connect the waist strap buckle.
Tighten the waist belt by grabbing the ends of the straps and pulling each end toward each other and then directly outward from the center.
Adjust the shoulder straps so that the unit fits comfortably, but the weight is still concentrated on your hips.
Connect the sternum strap buckle.
Tighten the sternum strap by grabbing the ends of the straps and pulling each end toward each other and then directly outward from the center.
FILTER MAINTENANCE:
USE ONLY GENUINE RIDGID FILTERS TO ENSURE OPTIMAL PERFORMANCE.
DRY FILTER BAG:
Empty and inspect the dry filter bag (VFB600) every time you start and finish
vacuuming.
Replace the dry filter bag (VFB600) if necessary.
A clogged and dirty filter restricts airflow and results in reduced suction
and overheating.
A dry filter bag must be used inside the cloth filter (VFB102).
WARNING To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury, do not use the vacuum without all three filters installed.
CLOTH FILTER:
Once a month, or as necessary, hand or machine wash the cloth filter
(VFB102) and ALWAYS let it air dry completely.
DO NOT put the cloth filter (VFB102) in the dryer.
Replace the cloth filter (VFB102) if punctured.
WARNING To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury, do not use the vacuum with a wet cloth filter bag or dome filter. Allow the filters to dry completely before reinstalling.
DOME FOAM FILTER:
Once a month, or as necessary, clean the dome filter: a. First, remove the
dry filter bag and cloth filter from the Backpack Vac. b. Reach into the
Backpack Vac and pull the dome filter grate off and remove the dome foam
filter. c. Shake the dome foam filter, rinse it and let it air dry thoroughly.
d. Once the dome foam filter is dry, replace the dome foam filter into the
dome filter compartment and firmly snap the dome filter grate into place.
