FOREWORD

This instruction sheet has been prepared in English and translated into different languages. In case of divergence, the English version shall prevail. Download it for future use. Read this instruction sheet completely before proceeding with the installation. Plugs, fixed or portable socket-outlets and appliance inlets are herein referred to as “devices”. In some countries, the term “ground” is used instead of “earth”. In some cases, for practical reasons, some of the stickers are delivered separately. Affix them near the device in a suitable and legible manner.

GENERAL

These multi-contacts devices , are used for power and control. They can carry loads as well as low level signals.
Live parts are protected against the contact test finger (IP2X/IPXXB), according to IEC/EN 60529 standard.

WARNINGS

  • MARECHAL ELECTRIC SAS declines any responsibility in the event of non-observance of applicable standards and instructions contained in this document.
  • These devices must be installed and maintained by a qualified electrician.
  • MARECHAL® devices must be used with MARECHAL® complementary devices only. Any repair or service must be performed with genuine MARECHAL® parts only.
  • Only devices with similar casing material should be mated with each other: poly with poly and metal with metal. Metal-cased devices may use rear accessories (handle, box, adaptor) of insulating material.
  • Poly box closing screws must be tightened at a torque of 1.2 Nm.
  • Apply without excess the necessary torque to tighten self-tapping screws.

WIRING

Remove an adequate length of cable outer sheath, according to the accessory used. The cable sheathing must extend through the cord grip into the accessory as required to achieve the intended sealing and cord gripping performance.

  • Strip conductors’ insulation to the lengths indicated.

MULTICONTACTS-DSN24C-Multi-Contact-Industrial-Connector-
fig-2

  • Before wiring, equip each conductor with a heat-shrink sleeve or an expandable insulating sleeve. Sleeving pliers (P/N° 61CA400) are required to slip an expandable sleeve over the conductor;
    Fully insert the stripped conductor (and its wiring lug for conductors below 2.5 mm²) into the contact hole;

  • Crimp the contact with a crimping tool: KNIPEX P/N° 61CA500, or GREENLEE 45505, or KLAUKE K93. Use the 4 mm² footprint whatever the conductor cross-section. Perform a double crimping with a 90° rotation, in compliance with IEC 60352-2;

  • Conductors can also be soldered: using tin solder and a 50 W soldering iron, heat the terminal for approximately 30 s. while heating, apply the soldering wire into the hole at the bottom of the terminal and let it penetrate by capillarity action. Let it cool down without any mechanical stress;

  • Slide the insulating sleeve up to the shoulder of the contact.

  • Slide the heat-shrink sleeve up to the shoulder of the contact. With a heat gun, apply heat evenly 360° around the sleeve until it shrinks around the terminal and wire.

EARTHING

If necessary, crimp the supplied Earth conductor in the Earth contact.

CONTACT ASSEMBLY / DISASSEMBLY

Contacs can be inserted and removed up to 3 times.

Once wired, contacts must be inserted through the rear of the interior moulding (1). Push each contact fully home. Check its proper engagement by a light pull (2) Contacts can be removed with the supplied tool: push the contact towards the front (3) and insert the tool through the front (4). Push the tool until the stop.

KEYINGS
When 2 contacts are not used, nine keyings can be achieved by blanking two contact holes – socket-outlet/connector side – with two caps (supplied).

INSTALLATION

Install socket-outlets with the latch at the top, or on the side in case of risk of accumulation of foreign material inside the cover.

PN PLUG/APPLIANCE INLET
Affix the CE sticker either on the handle or on the box, or near the inlet if semi-flush mounted.

SEALING RINGS

  • DSN12C/24C/37C : The two protrusions of the rings must be positioned on the latch side for the socket-outlet/connector and on the catch side for the plug/inlet.
  • PN12C : The two protrusions of the rings must be positioned on the cover hinge side for the socket-outlet/connector and on the catch side for the plug/appliance inlet.

OPERATION

The socket-outlet is shielded by a protective lid held in the closed position by a latch. Depress this latch to release the lid.

DSN12C/24C/37C

  • To connect, align the red marks on the housings. Insert the device and turn clockwise until the stop. The device is in the rest position, circuit open.
  • Push the device fully home until latched. If any, use the finger draw plates. The finger draw plates must be assembled on the devices with the long screws as follows.

MULTICONTACTS-DSN24C-Multi-Contact-Industrial-Connector-
fig-7

  • To disconnect, depress the latch. The device returns to its rest position.
  • Turn the device in the opposite direction to remove it. Shut the lid.

PN12C

To connect, align the bayonets with the hollow parts of the complementary device (if any, use the two red marks as a visual indication), push the device in and turn anticlockwise: the circuit is closed.

To disconnect, push the device and turn it clockwise to withdraw it. Close the lid.

SOCKET-OUTLET LOCKING (OPTION)

Single-padlocking (PN12C): cover closed, insert a padlock that fits tightly in the locking hole of the latch (ø 4 mm).
Multiple-padlocking (except for PN12C): cover closed, insert the shaft that can accommodate up to two padlocks into the hole provided in the socket- outlet.

MAINTENANCE

  • Ensure that the fixing screws, caps and cable glands are tight.
    Verify that the weight of the cable is supported by the strain relief mechanism and not by the terminal connections.

  • Check the cleanliness of contacts. Any deposit can be rubbed off with a clean cloth or compressed air. If necessary, replace damaged contacts. Any deposit can be rubbed off with a clean cloth or compressed air. If necessary, replace damaged contacts.

  • To replace contacts on Poly-cased DS and DSN, a special key (P/N° 31-A500-1) is available to remove the retaining clip of the casing and gain access to the contacts.

  • Periodically inspect IP gaskets for wear and tear. Replace as necessary.

  • Regularly check the continuity of the earth circuit by electric tests.

SELF-EJECTING DEVICES

The automatic ejection function uses modified devices, the active parts of which are protected against the contact test finger (IP2X/IPXXB, according to standard IEC/EN 60529). These devices must not be locked. On self-ejecting plugs, the colour- coded ring is replaced by a flat gasket. A device releases the retaining latch when accidental traction is exerted on the flexible power cable. This device is activated by means of a tension cord connected either to the flexible cable. The tension cord has a loop at one end and a cable tie, for clamping the power cable or at a fixed point. A crimping lug allows looping the other end, once passed through to the releasing device and cut to the desired length.

MULTICONTACTS-DSN24C-Multi-Contact-Industrial-Connector-
fig-11

  • Make sure the tension cord is shorter than the flexible cable.

  • Make sure that the ejection system operates correctly, considering the pulling angle of the cable with respect to the axis of the device.

  • Make sure the ejected devices:
    are not likely to harm anyone in the vicinity;
    are not likely to be damaged or damage any surrounding equipment.

  • Occasionally check the state of the tension cord and the free motion of the ejection mechanism.

RESPONSIBILITY

In the case MARECHAL® devices would be associated with devices or spare parts other than from MARECHAL®, MARECHAL ELECTRIC S.A.S.’s responsibility cannot be engaged, and the CE marking is invalidated. MARECHAL ELECTRIC S.A.S.’s responsibility is strictly limited to the obligations expressly agreed in its general sales conditions. Any penalty or indemnity provided herein will be considered as lump damages, redeeming from any other sanctions.
