Safety Instructions

General Power Tool Safety Warnings

WARNING: Read all safety warnings, instructions, illustrations and specifications provided with this power tool. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/ or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. The term “power tool” in the warnings refers to your mains-operated (corded) power tool or battery-operated (cordless) power tool.

Work area safety

  • Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Power tools create sparks that may ignite the dust or fumes.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.

Electrical safety

  • Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with earthed (grounded) power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce the risk of electric shock.
  • Avoid body contact with earthed or grounded surfaces, such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is an increased risk of electric shock if your body is earthed or grounded.
  • Do not expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electric shock.
  • Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord for carrying, pulling or unplugging the power tool. Keep the cord away from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts. Damaged or entangled cords increase the risk of electric shock.
  • When operating a power tool outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. The use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
  • If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protected supply. The use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

Personal safety

  • Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inatten-tion while operating power tools may result in serious personal injury.
  • Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as a dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
  • Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to a power source and/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch or energising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.
  • Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the power tool on. A wrench or a key left attached to a rotating part of the power tool may result in personal injury.
  • Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool in unexpected situations.
  • Dress properly. Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery. Keep your hair and clothing away from moving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery or long hair can be caught in moving parts.
  • If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these are connected and properly used. The use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.
  • Do not let familiarity gained from the frequent use of tools allow you to become complacent and ignore tool safety principles. A careless action can cause severe injury within a fraction of a second.

Power tool use and care

  • Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.
  • Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
  • Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or remove the battery pack, if detachable, from the power tool before making any adjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power tool accidentally.
  • Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
  • Maintain power tools and accessories. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.
  • Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and are easier to control.
  • Use the power tool, accessories tool bits etc. by these instructions, taking into account the working conditions and the work to be performed. Use of the power tool for operations different from those intended could result in a hazardous situation.
  • Keep handles and grasping surfaces dry, clean and free from oil and grease. Slippery handles and grasping surfaces do not allow for safe handling and control of the tool in unexpected situations.

Battery tool use and care

  • Recharge only with the charger specified by the manufacturer. A charger that is suitable for one type of battery pack may create a risk of fire when used with another battery pack.
  • Use power tools only with specifically designated battery packs. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.
  • When the battery pack is not in use, keep it away from other metal objects, like paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or other small metal objects, that can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the battery terminals together may cause burns or a fire.
  • Under abusive conditions, liquid may be ejected from the battery; avoid contact. If contact accidentally occurs, flush with water. If liquid contacts the eyes, additionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected from the battery may cause irritation or burns.
  • Do not use a battery pack or tool that is damaged or modified. Damaged or modified batteries may exhibit unpredictable behaviour resulting in fire, explosion or risk of injury.
  • Do not expose a battery pack or tool to fire or excessive temperature. Exposure to fire or temperature above 130°C may cause an explosion.
  • Follow all charging instructions and do not charge the battery pack or tool outside the temperature range specified in the instructions. Charging improperly or at temperatures outside the specified range may damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.

Service

  • Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
  • Never service damaged battery packs. Service of battery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service providers.

Safety instructions for circular saws Cutting procedures

  • DANGER: Keep hands away from the cutting area and the blade. If both hands are holding the saw, they cannot be cut by the blade.
  • Do not reach underneath the workpiece. The guard cannot protect you from the blade below the workpiece.
  • Adjust the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece. Less than a full tooth of the blade teeth should be visible below the workpiece.
  • Never hold the workpiece in your hands or across your leg while cutting. Secure the workpiece to a stable platform. It is important to support the work properly to minimise body exposure, blade binding, or loss of control.
  • Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces, when performing an operation where the cutting tool may contact hidden wiring. Contact with a “live” wire will also make exposed metal parts of the power tool “live” and could give the operator an electric shock.
  • When ripping always use a rip fence or straight edge guide. This improves the accuracy of the cut and reduces the chance of blade binding.
  • Always use blades with the correct size and shape (diamond versus round) of arbour holes. Blades that do not match the mounting hardware of the saw will run off centre, causing loss of control.
  • Never use damaged or incorrect blade washers or bolts. The blade washers and bolts were specially designed for your saw, for optimum performance and safety of operation.

Kickback causes and related warnings

  • kickback is a sudden reaction to a pinched, jammed or misaligned saw blade, causing an uncontrolled saw to lift up and out of the workpiece toward the operator;
  • when the blade is pinched or jammed tightly by the kerf closing down, the blade stalls and the motor reaction drives the unit rapidly back toward the operator;
  • if the blade becomes twisted or misaligned in the cut, the teeth at the back edge of the blade can dig into the top surface of the wood causing the blade to climb out of the kerf and jump back toward the operator. Kickback is the result of saw misuse and/or incorrect operating procedures or conditions and can be avoided by taking proper precautions as given below.
  • Maintain a firm grip on the saw and position your arms to resist kickback forces. Position your body to either side of the blade, but not in line with the blade. Kickback could cause the saw to jump backwards, but kickback forces can be controlled by the operator if proper precautions are taken.
  • When the blade is binding, or when interrupting a cut for any reason, release the trigger and hold the saw motionless in the material until the blade comes to a complete stop. Never attempt to remove the saw from the work or pull the saw backward while the blade is in motion or kickback may occur. Investigate and take corrective actions to eliminate the cause of blade binding.
  • When restarting a saw in the workpiece, centre the saw blade in the kerf so that the saw teeth are not engaged into the material. If a saw blade binds, it may walk up or kick back from the workpiece as the saw is restarted.
  • Support large panels to minimise the risk of blade pinching and kickback. Large panels tend to sag under their weight. Supports must be placed under the panel on both sides, near the line of cut and the edge of the panel.
  • Do not use dull or damaged blades. Unsharpened or improperly set blades produce narrow kerf causing excessive friction, blade binding and kickback.
  • Blade depth and bevel-adjusting locking levers must be tight and secure before cutting. If blade adjustment shifts while cutting, it may cause binding and kickback.
  • Use extra caution when sawing into existing walls or other blind areas. The protruding blade may cut objects that can cause kickback.

Guard function

  • Check the guard for proper closing before each use. Do not operate the saw if the guard does not move freely and enclose the blade instantly. Never clamp or tie the guard so that the blade is exposed. If the saw is accidentally dropped, the guard may be bent. Check to make sure that the guard moves freely and does not touch the blade or any other part, in all angles and depths of cut.
  • Check the operation and condition of the guard return spring. If the guard and the spring are not operating properly, they must be serviced before use. The guard may operate sluggishly due to damaged parts, gummy deposits, or a build-up of debris.
  • Assure that the base plate of the saw will not shift while performing a “plunge cut”. Blade shifting sideways will cause binding and likely kickback.
  • Always observe that the guard is covering the blade before placing the saw down on a bench or floor. An unprotected, coasting blade will cause the saw to walk backwards, cutting whatever is in its path. Be aware of the time it takes for the blade to stop after the switch is released.

Additional safety warnings

  • Do not allow the chip ejector to come into contact with your hands. You may be injured by rotating parts.
  • Do not use the saw above the level of your head. Doing so will mean you have inadequate control of the power tool.
  • Use suitable detectors to determine if there are hidden supply lines or contact the local utility company for assistance. Contact with electric cables can cause fire and electric shock. Damaging gas lines can lead to explosions. Breaking water pipes causes property damage.
  • Secure the workpiece. A workpiece clamped with clamping devices or in a vice is held more securely than by hand.
  • Hold the power tool firmly with both hands and make sure you have a stable footing. The power tool can be more securely guided with both hands.
  • Do not operate the power tool when stationary. It is not suitable for operation with a saw table.
  • Do not use HSS saw blades. Such saw blades can easily break.
  • Do not see any ferrous metals. Hot chips may ignite the dust extractor.
  • Wear a dust mask.
  • In case of damage and improper use of the battery, vapours may be emitted. The battery can set alight or explode. Ensure the area is well-ventilated and seek medical attention should you experience any adverse effects. The vapours may irritate the respiratory system.
  • Do not open the battery. There is a risk of short-circuiting.
  • The battery can be damaged by pointed objects such as nails or screwdrivers or by force applied externally. An internal short circuit may occur, causing the battery to burn, smoke, explode or overheat.
  • Only use the battery with products from the manufacturer. This is the only way in which you can protect the battery against dangerous overload.
  • Protect the battery against heat, e.g. against continuous intense sunlight, fire, dirt, water and moisture. There is a risk of explosion and short-circuiting.
  • Always wait until the power tool has come to a complete stop before placing it down. The application tool can jam and cause you to lose control of the power tool.
  • Caution! When using the power tool with Bluetooth®, a fault may occur in other devices and systems, aeroplanes and medical devices (e.g. pacemakers, hearing aids). Also, damage to people and animals in the immediate vicinity cannot be completely excluded. Do not use the power tool with Bluetooth® in the vicinity of medical devices, petrol stations, chemical plants, areas with a potentially explosive atmosphere or in blasting areas. Do not use the power tool with Bluetooth® in aircraft. Avoid using the product near your body for extended periods.

Intended use

  • The power tool is intended for making straight cuts in wood with and against the grain and mitre cuts in wood while resting firmly against the workpiece. With the respective saw blades, light building materials and plastics can also be sawn.
  • The power tool must not be used to cut ferrous metals. With the Bluetooth® Low Energy Module GCY 42 inserted, power tool data and settings can be transferred between the power tool and a mobile device using Bluetooth® wireless technology.

However, if the power tool is used for other applications, with different accessories or is poorly maintained, the vibration level and noise emission value may differ. Rechargeable battery

  • Bosch sells some cordless power tools without a rechargeable battery. You can tell whether a rechargeable battery is included with the power tool by looking at the packaging.

Charging the battery

  • Use only the chargers listed in the technical data. Only these chargers are matched to the lithium-ion battery of your power tool.
  • Note: Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries are supplied partially charged according to international transport regulations.
  • To ensure full rechargeable battery capacity, fully charge the rechargeable battery before using your tool for the first time.

Inserting the Battery

  • Push the charged battery into the battery holder until it clicks into place.

Removing the Battery

  • To remove the rechargeable battery, press the battery release button and pull the battery out. Do not use force to do this.
  • The rechargeable battery has two locking levels to prevent the battery from falling out if the battery release button is pressed unintentionally. The rechargeable battery is held in place by a spring when fitted in the power tool.

Battery charge indicator

  • Note: Not all battery types have a battery charge indicator.
  • The green LEDs on the battery charge indicator indicate the state of charge of the battery. For safety reasons, it is only possible to check the state of charge when the power tool is not in operation.
  • Press the button for the battery charge indicator on or to show the state of charge. This is also possible when the battery is removed.
  • If no LED lights up after pressing the button for the battery charge indicator, then the battery is defective and must be replaced.
  • The state of charge of the battery is also displayed on the user interface (see “Status indications”, page 26).

Recommendations for Optimal Handling of the Battery

  • Protect the battery against moisture and water. Only store the battery within a temperature range of −20 to 50 °C. Do not leave the battery in your car in the summer, for example.
  • Occasionally clean the ventilation slots on the battery using a soft brush that is clean and dry.
  • A significantly reduced operating time after charging indicates that the battery has deteriorated and must be replaced. Follow the instructions on correct disposal.

Fitting

  • Only use saw blades the maximum permitted speed of which is higher than the no-load speed of the power tool.

Using the Bluetooth® Low Energy Module GCY 42

  • Read the corresponding operating instructions for information about the Bluetooth® Low Energy Module GCY 42.

Inserting/changing the circular saw blade

  • Before carrying out any work on the power tool (e.g. maintenance, tool change etc.), remove the battery from the power tool. There is a risk of injury from unintentionally pressing the on/off switch.
  • Wear protective gloves when fitting the saw blade. The danger of injury when touching the saw blade.
  • Do not use abrasive wheels as the application tool under any circumstances.

Selecting the saw blade

  • You will find an overview of recommended saw blades at the end of these operating instructions.
  • Only use saw blades that match the specifications given in this operating manual and that are tested and marked by EN 847-1

Removing the saw blade (see Figure A)

  • Set the maximum cutting depth, (see “Setting the cutting depth (see figure C)”, page 24).
  • To change tools, we recommend that you place the power tool down on the battery side.
    • Flip the lever (3) forwards.
    • Slide the lock-off switch (2) forward and press the saw into the base plate (8) until this engages in the position for the saw blade change.
    • Press and hold the spindle lock button (28).
  • Do not press the spindle lock button (28) while the saw spindle is moving. The power tool may become damaged if this happens.
    • Use the hex key (9) to undo the clamping bolt (23) in the rotational direction ➋.
      Remove the clamping flange (24) and the saw blade (25) from the saw spindle (27).

Fitting the saw blade (see Figure A)

  • Set the maximum cutting depth, (see “Setting the cutting depth (see figure C)”, page 24).
  • To change tools, we recommend that you place the power tool down on the battery side.
    • Flip the lever (3) forwards.
    • Slide the lock-off switch (2) forward and press the saw into the base plate (8) until this locks into the position for changing the saw blade.
    • Clean the saw blade (25) and all the clamping elements to be fitted.
    • Place the saw blade (25) on the mounting flange (26). The cutting direction of the teeth (the direction of the arrow on the saw blade) must match the rotational direction of the arrow on the protective guard (15).
    • Attach the clamping flange (24) and screw in the clamping bolt (23) in the rotational direction ➌. Ensure that the mounting flange (26) and clamping flange (24) are installed in the correct position.
    • Press and hold the spindle lock button (28).
    • Use the hex key (9) to tighten the clamping bolt (23) in the rotational direction ➌. The tightening torque should be 6–9 Nm, which corresponds to hand-tight plus ¼ turn.
    • Flip the lever (3) back. In doing so, the saw will automatically spring back to its home position.

Dust/chip extraction

  • The dust from materials such as lead paint, some types of wood, minerals and metal can be harmful to human health.

Touching or breathing in this dust can trigger allergic reactions and/or cause respiratory illnesses in the user or in people in the near vicinity. Certain dusts, such as oak or beech dust, are classified as carcinogenic, especially in conjunction with wood treatment additives (chromate, wood preservative). Materials containing asbestos may only be machined by specialists.

  • Use a dust extraction system that is suitable for the material wherever possible.
  • Provide good ventilation at the workplace.
  • It is advisable to wear a P2 filter class breathing mask.

The regulations on the material being machined that apply in the country of use must be observed. Avoid dust accumulation at the workplace. Dust can easily ignite.

Chip ejector (see figure I)

  • The chip ejector (18) can turn freely.
  • An extraction hose with a diameter of 35 mm or a dust/chip bag (51) can be connected to the chip ejector (18).
  • To ensure optimum extraction, the chip ejector (18) must be cleaned regularly.

External dust extraction

  • Connect an extraction hose with a diameter of 35 mm (34) (accessory) to the chip ejector (18). Connect the extraction hose (34) to a dust extractor (accessory). You will find an overview of how to connect various dust extractors at the end of these operating instructions.
  • The dust extractor must be suitable for the material being worked.
  • When extracting dry dust or dust that is especially detrimental to health or carcinogenic, use a special dust extractor.

Operation

  • Before carrying out any work on the power tool (e.g. maintenance, tool change etc.), remove the battery from the power tool. There is a risk of injury from unintentionally pressing the on/off switch.

Operating modes Setting the cutting depth (see Figure C)

  • Adapt the cutting depth to the thickness of the workpiece.
  • A space of less than the height of one full tooth should be visible under the workpiece.
  • Push the slider (36) to set the required cutting depth (material thickness + tooth height of the saw blade) on the cutting depth scale (10).
  • The cutting depth indicator (7) shows the cutting depth when using a Bosch guide rail. When sawing without a guide rail, the cutting depth value increases by the thickness of a Bosch guide rail.

Adjusting the mitre/bevel angle

  • Place the power tool on a level surface, so that the base plate (8) is fully supported.
  • Loosen the wing bolts (13) and (16). Swivel the saw to the side. Set the required mitre/bevel angle on the scale (11).
  • Retighten the wing bolts (13) and (16). Note: Do not exert any force on the auxiliary handle (4) or the saw itself. If this is not adhered to, different mitre/bevel angles can be set unintentionally with the wing bolts (13) and (16). This means that the base plate (8) will no longer lay flat on the surface of the FSN guide rail.
  • If you tighten both wing bolts at the same time, it may be necessary to support the saw from the bottom of the auxiliary handle (4). When doing this, do not exert any force on the auxiliary handle (4) or the saw itself to prevent different settings from being implemented.
  • If the settings have nonetheless turned out to be different, loosen both wing bolts (13) and (16) again. Then set the mitre/bevel angle again as described previously.
  • The saw can be set to a mitre/bevel angle of -1° or +47°. To do this, when swivelling, also press the button (14) for a mitre/bevel angle of -1° or a mitre/bevel angle of +47°.
  • Note: When making mitre cuts, the cutting depth is less than the value shown on the cutting depth scale (10).
  • Note: The maximum mitre/bevel angle and the maximum cutting depth are optimised for the use of a Bosch guide rail.
  • Note: Using the screws for fine adjustment (48) and (49), you can reset the angle for the mitre/bevel cut, e.g. after an impact.
  • Cutting without a guide rail: For 45° cuts without a guide rail, the cutting depth should be no more than (10) 40 mm to ensure the angle accuracy and the cutting quality.

Cut marks (see figure B)

  • The 0° cut mark (33) indicates the position of the saw blade when making a 0° cut – when used with or without a guide rail.
  • The 45° cut mark (32) indicates the position of the saw blade when making a 45° cut – when used without a guide rail.
  • Note: The plunge markings (35) indicate where the sawblade plunges into the workpiece when used with a guide rail.

Start-up Switching on/off

  • To start the power tool, first press the lock-off switch (2), then press and hold the on/off switch (1).
  • Pressing the lock-off switch (2) also unlocks the plunge function and allows the power tool to be pushed down. This causes the application tool to plunge into the workpiece.
  • Raising the power tool causes it to spring back into the starting position and the plunge function locks again.
  • To switch off the power tool, release the on/off switch (1).
  • Note: For safety reasons, the on/off switch (1) cannot be locked; it must remain pressed during the entire operation.

Constant electronic control

  • The Constant Electronic keeps the speed at no load and under load virtually consistent, guaranteeing uniform performance.

ECO mode

  • If the power tool is operated in the energy-saving ECO mode, the battery life may be up to 20% longer.
  • If the ECO mode is active, the symbol E is shown on the speed setting/mode indicator (40). In addition, the ECO mode indicator (38) lights up.

User Interface (see figure D)

  • The user interface (20) is used to preselect the speed and to indicate the status of the power tool.

Speed preselection

  • Six speed settings and the ECO mode are preset in the basic settings. Using a special application (Bosch Toolbox app), one to six speed settings can be programmed.
  • The information in the table below describes the preset speeds (default settings) for each programmed number of levels.

  • A) ±25 % The required speed depends on the saw blade used and the material being worked on (see the saw blade overview at the end of these operating instructions).
  • This will prevent the saw teeth from overheating when sawing.
  • You can use the button for speed preselection (39) to preselect the required speed, even during operation.
  • The figures in the table below are recommended values for the basic settings with 6 preset speed settings and the ECO mode.

Connectivity functions

In conjunction with the Bluetooth® Low Energy Module GCY 42, the following connectivity functions are available for the power tool:

  • Status check, the output of warning messages
  • General information and settings
  • Management
  • Setting the speed levels
  • Read the corresponding operating instructions for information about the Bluetooth® Low Energy Module GCY 42.

Practical advice

  • With the Bluetooth® Low Energy Module GCY 42, the power tool is equipped with a radio interface. Local operating restrictions, e.g. in aircraft or hospitals, must be observed.
  • In areas in which the Bluetooth® wireless technology must not be used, the Bluetooth® Low Energy Module GCY 42 and the coin cell must be removed.
  • Protect saw blades against shock and impact. Guide the power tool evenly, pushing it gently in the cutting direction to achieve a high cut quality. Applying too much pressure will significantly reduce the service life of application tools and can damage the power tool.
  • The sawing performance and the quality of the cut essentially depend on the condition and the tooth shape of the saw blade. This is why you should only use sharp saw blades that are suitable for the material being machined.

Sawing wood

  • Choosing the right saw blade depends on the wood type, wood quality and whether cuts with or against the grain are required.
  • Making cuts in spruce with the grain produces long, spirals-shaped chips.
  • Beech and oak dust is especially detrimental to health. Therefore, work only with dust extraction.

Sawing Plastic

  • Note: Sawing plastic, in particular PVC, produces long, spiral-shaped chips that can be electrostatically charged.
  • This can lead to the chip ejector (18) becoming clogged.
  • Therefore, you should not work without dust extraction. Switch on the power tool and bring it into contact with the workpiece, sawing it carefully. Then continue working quickly and without interruption so that the saw teeth do not become stuck as quickly.

Sawing lightweight materials (materials containing minerals)

  • When sawing lightweight materials, take into account the statutory provisions and recommendations of the material manufacturers.
  • Lightweight materials may only be worked on using dry cuts and with a dust extraction system. Always use the guide rail (30) (accessory).
  • The dust extractor must be approved for extracting stone dust. Suitable dust extractors are available from Bosch.

Sawing with the guide rail (see Figure B)

  • You can use the guide rail (30) to produce straight cuts.
  • The rubber lip on the guide rail acts as an anti-splinter guard, which prevents the surface from splintering when sawing wooden materials. To fulfil this function, the saw blade must be positioned with its teeth right up against the rubber lip.
  • Before making the first cut with the guide rail (30), the rubber lip must be adapted to the circular saw used. To do so, position the guide rail (30) along the entire length of a workpiece. Set a cutting depth of approx. 9 mm and a right-angled mitre/bevel angle. Switch on the circular saw and guide it evenly, pushing it gently in the cutting direction.
  • The connector (31) can be used to join two guide rails. The four screws in the connector are used for clamping.

Fitting the guide rail to the base plate (see Figure E)

  • The narrow groove (50) integrated into the base plate (8) can be used for the guide rails shown on the accessories page. Attach the saw to the guide rail and adjust the fitting accuracy of the saw and guide rail as required using the two sliders (45).
  • To adjust the base plate to guide rails with a wider guide ring that is made by other suppliers, remove the plastic insert (44).

Sawing with the parallel guide (see figures F–G)

  • The parallel guide (46) allows you to make precise cuts along the edge of a workpiece and cut strips with the same dimensions.
  • Slide the guide rods on the parallel guide (46) through the guides in the base plate (8). Attach the wing bolts (47) on both sides as shown in the figure, then screw in the wing bolts(47) without fully tightening them.
  • Set the required cutting width as the scale value at the respective cut mark (33) or (32) (see “Cut marks (see figure B)”, page 25). Then tighten the wing bolts (47).

Sawing with an auxiliary guide (see figure H)

  • For working on large workpieces or for cutting straight edges, you can securely fasten a board or rail to the workpiece as an auxiliary guide. The circular saw can be guided along the path of this auxiliary guide with the base plate.

Maintenance and Service

Maintenance and cleaning

  • To ensure safe and efficient operation, always keep the power tool and the ventilation slots clean.
  • The protective guard (15) must always be able to move freely and retract automatically. It is therefore important to keep the area around the protective guard (15) clean at all times. Remove dust and chips with a paintbrush.
  • Keep the dust/chip bag, chip ejector, base plate, guide rail and groove for the guide rail clean at all times.
  • Non-coated saw blades can be protected against corrosion using a thin layer of acid-free oil. Remove the oil again before sawing as failure to do so will stain the wood.
  • Resin or glue residue on the saw blade has a detrimental effect on the quality of the cut. You should therefore clean saw blades straight after use.

Transport

  • The recommended lithium-ion batteries are subject to legislation on the transport of dangerous goods. The user can transport the batteries by road without further requirements.
  • When the batteries are shipped by third parties (e.g. air transport or forwarding agency), special requirements on packaging and labelling (e.g. ADR regulations) must be met.
  • A dangerous goods expert must be consulted when preparing the items for shipping.
  • Dispatch battery packs only when the housing is undamaged.
  • Tape or mask off open contacts and pack up the battery in such a manner that it cannot move around in the packaging. Please also observe the possibility of more detailed national regulations.

Disposal

  • Power tools, rechargeable batteries, accessories and packaging should be sorted for environmentally-friendly recycling.
  • Do not dispose of power tools and batteries/rechargeable batteries into household waste!

Only for EU countries:

  • According to the Directive 2012/19/EU on waste electrical and electronic equipment and its transposition into national law, power tools that are no longer usable, and, according to the Directive 2006/66/EC, defective or drained batteries must be collected separately and disposed of in an environmentally correct manner.
  • If disposed of incorrectly, waste electrical and electronic equipment may have harmful effects on the environment and human health, due to the potential presence of hazardous substances.

Only for the United Kingdom:

  • According to The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations 2013 (SI 2013/3113) (as amended) and the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009 (SI 2009/890) (as amended), products that are no longer usable must be collected separately and disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner.
