Care For Your Plant

  • When seedlings are 1-2 in. tall, thin to one plant per pot (Choose the strongest/best-looking plant) Beans grow best in partial shade (4-6 hours of sunlight)
  • Water thoroughly when the soil surface is dry
  • Try to water in the morning before the heat of the day.
  • Space bean plants 3-4 in. apart for pole beans, and 4-6 in. apart for bush beans Pole beans need support. Utilize a trellis to allow plants to climb.
  • Harvest beans regularly when pods plump up to encourage more growth

Bean Growing Tips

  • Grow beans between other plants to deliver nitrogen from the atmosphere into the soil
  • Plant multiple bean plants to have a supply of beans year-round!
  • To save bean seeds – Allow a few bean pods to fully develop on the plant and dry out.
  • Pods may split, which means seeds are mature. Try to harvest when pods are still closed.
  • Keep seeds in a dry cool area to store for later use
