Intended use
The Matrx® Libra Cushion is designed with the highest level of skin
protection, positioning and adjustability. It is suitable for all users, with
emphasis on individuals at highest risk of skin breakdown.
Product description
Matrx® Libra Cushion: The Libra Cushion (A) uses a combination of a molded high resilience foam (B) with a dual layer fluid sac (C) over the ischial/sacral area. The anatomically contoured foam provides balance and stability to the pelvis, and the fluid sac provides maximum protection for boney prominences. Ultra-Fresh™ anti-microbial technology in the foam controls the risk of bacteria and odor.
Fluid Sac: The unique fluid sac (C) design is secured in place on the foam cushion using Velcro™ tabs. The non-temperature sensitive, innocuous fluid is sealed inside dual-layer compartments and requires no maintenence or kneading prior to use.
Outer Cover and Inner Liner: The Libra Cushion comes standard with our high-stretch, breathable, moisture resistant Startex™ outer cover (E). Two additional outer cover options are also available: Infection Control covers (provide a wipeable surface for ease of cleaning and disinfection) and Spacetex covers (for greater breathability). A moisture resistant, breathable platilon inner liner (D) is included with all Libra Cushions to protect the foam.
Matrx® Libra Adjust Cushion: The optional Libra Adjust Cushion includes two additional Fluid Supplement Packs (F) to create a deeper contour pelvic well.
Regular cleaning and inspection of the covers is recommended. Refer to Care and Maintenance instructions in Section 4.0.
Cushion components are not made with natural rubber latex

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
WARNING! Risk of injury or damage
- Do not continue to use this product if problems or damage are discovered;
- Corrective maintenance can be performed at or arranged through your service provider
Inspection
Frequent visual inspection of all components, including upholstery materials,
fluid sac, foam and any hardware or plastics, should be performed to identify
any breakage, deformation, punctures, wear and tear or compression. Replace
damaged/worn components if necessary.
Cleaning and Disinfection
WARNING! Risk of damage
To avoid infectious exposure, inspect cushion thoroughly and properly clean
and disinfect any materials soiled with blood or other bodily fluids.
CAUTION! Risk of damage
- DO NOT use cleaning and disinfecting agents with abrasive, staining, or polymer-damaging properties such as phenols, alcohols, or bleaches. Chlorine solutions used even in low concentrations on a regular basis can diminish the life of the cover.
- Chosen cleaning agents and disinfectants must be compatible with one another in order to effectively protect the materials on which they are applied.
- Keep clear of open heat sources during cleaning.
OUTER COVER
General Cleaning
The knitted fabric side of the cover can be wiped with a damp absorbent towel,
cloth, or paper towel. Remove all gross contamination from surface (i.e. food
particles, urine, feces, blood). Spot-clean with mild soap and water.
Cleaning and Disinfection Instructions
The infection control cover can be cleaned and disinfected with ready-to-use
disinfecting wipes 3M, Virox Accel TB, Accel Prevention, PREempt, OPTIM 33 TB,
or other wipes with similar formulations. Note that the surface should be
cleaned first, with all gross contamination (i.e. urine, feces, blood) first
removed with absorbent material (cloth or paper towel). Ensure the coated
surface of the cover is clean by wiping with one of 2-in-1 cleaning and
disinfecting wipes mentioned above.
To disinfect, liberally wipe the surface with the ready-to-use disinfecting wipe again. Avoid pooling of the disinfectant and ensure the disinfectant is distributed equally over the cover surface. Wipe dry after recommended dwell time (refer to each disinfecting products manufacturing instructions). It is best practice to wipe the surface with a damp cloth, mild soap, and finally a damp cloth no matter what disinfectant is used.
Machine Laundering Instructions
The outer cushion cover may be removed and cleaned in a laundering machine.
Carefully unzip the outer cover and remove the foam cushion with its
protective inner cover in place. To avoid possible damage to the cover, the
zipper of the cover should be closed prior to laundering, and covers should
not come in contact with any other sharp garment accessories. Washing in warm
temperatures not higher than 60°C (140F) can be performed using neutral
detergents such as Tide or Persil.
Drying
Adequate drying is a crucial factor in the care and maintenance of the covers.
The covers should be dried completely prior to use on the cushion. Air drying
is the method of choice. DO NOT WRING OUT. Hang cover and allow to drip dry to
minimize wrinkling. Alternatively, covers may be tumble-dried on low/cool
setting. Cushion covers should not be ironed or pressed.
Polyurethane (PU) coated fabrics can absorb liquids for short periods causing a temporary change to the PU characteristics. The wet cover is more vulnerable to physical damage and should not be used until fully dried.
INNER LINER
Cleaning and Disinfection Instructions
The platilon inner liner can be wiped/cleaned using an absorbent towel, cloth
or paper towel with mild soap and water. The foam cushion should NOT be
removed from the protective inner liner. (Temporary removal may be necessary
during installation of Libra Fit Kit accessories).
AFTER USE
Storage
IMPORTANT!
- Store cushions inside a protective cover whenever possible.
- Store cushions in a clean, dry environment away from any sharp edges.
- Never store other items on top of a cushion.
- Do not store cushions next to radiators or other heating devices.
- Protect cushions from direct sunlight.
Re-use
WARNING! Risk of Injury

- PRIOR to reuse, clean and disinfect the product thoroughly, per section 4.2 Cleaning & Disinfection, and in accordance with local government regulations.
This product is suitable for repeated use. The number of times it can be used
depends on the frequency and duration of use, as well as the level of product
care and maintenance undertaken over the period of use.
It is recommended that the cushion (foam and cover) always be inspected by a
qualified healthcare professional or service provider for strike-through (this
may include fluid ingress, stains, rips, punctures or damage) prior to
transferring the cushion to a new patient. DO NOT re-use the cushion if any
damage is found
For additional information or assistance on decontamination and disinfection,
please consult your local Infection Control Office.

The disposal and recycling of used devices and packaging must comply with the
