CLEANING & MAINTENANCE:

Occasional cleaning and care are recommended for this product. Wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth to remove any surface dirt. To maintain efficiency, specifically clean the solar panel and LEDs on a regular basis. Keep the solar panel free of debris and snow to prevent reduced battery life or malfunction. Do not use abrasive cleaners or a lot of water as this could damage the fitting. Please refer to our website for more information on the best way to clean different materials.

SOLAR TECHNOLOGY:

This is a highly efficient solar light with high capacity Lithium Ion Phosphate batteries and a fast charging Polycrystalline solar panel. This means that even on partially cloudy and rainy days, it will re-charge efficiently. The high battery capacity stores enough power for illumination across multiple nights. The impressively bright LEDs are ideal for uplighting in flower beds via the ground spike installation, or for accent / amenity lighting on pergolas, walls and fences.

INSTALLATION:

The Solspike is designed to be mounted into soft ground, either in grass, borders or sand, both permanently and temporarily with easy movement. Alternatively, surface mount onto a wooden post, fence, wall or pergola and adjust the heads accordingly. Location – It is important that the location of the solar panel is carefully considered, avoiding shady areas (up to 4m away from the luminaires). The best position is south facing; however it will charge facing other direction, especially when in full sunshine. Ensure there are no other lights which could interfere with the fittings, imitating daylight.

Remove protective film from solar panel edging before use.

CONNECTIONS:

The Solspike uses a simple, modular, plug & play system (DC). Connect the single male input connector from the 3 way splitter to the female output connector of the solar panel.
Connect the single male input connector from each luminaire to one of the 3 female outputs connectors from the splitter.

Connections:

To connect together each waterproof connector:

  1. Locate the top notch and groove (see fig. A).
  2. Firmly push together both connectors, aligning the top notch and groove (in point 1) and the 2 pins (see Fig. B).
  3. Ensure the red o-ring is present (see Fig. B)
  4. Secure the connectors with the screw cap (turning clockwise) to create a watertight connection (see Fig. C).
  5. Turn on the system via the silver power button located on the side of the battery box (back of solar panel) to test all fittings are working as expected. Turn the power back off until fully installed.

IMPORTANT:
If buried or laid on a muddy surface, cable should be placed inside conduit or piping to protect from water-logging, damage and chemicals found in soil. If this method is not followed, cable warranty may be void. Cables can also be hooked up on fences safely, however protective sleeving is still recommended.

Connections:

SOLAR PANEL:

  1. Locate the ground spike in the accessories box.
  2. Remove the socket screw & washer from the ground spike with the large hex key provided.
  3. Place the spike underneath the U bracket, lining up with the predrilled centre hole.
  4. Secure the spike to the Bracket with the socket screw / washer by hand, then tighten fully with the hex key provided (image E). TIP: for ease of tightening (due to little clearing for the hex key) hold the socket screw securely with the hex key and turn the spike to tighten.
  5. Dampen the ground in the area where the panel is to be installed.
  6. Carefully, push the spike into the ground to the desired depth via the top of the spike. Do NOT put pressure on the side of the U-bracket or panel itself, or force into hard ground or it will damage the bracket.
  7. Gently compact the earth around the spike to ensure the spike is mounted firmly in the ground and does not move from side to side.
  8. Adjust the head to the desired position and secure by tightening the 2 x butterfly nuts on each side of the U-Bracket.

SURFACE MOUNTING (fixings not supplied)

  1. Using a spirit level, draw a straight line on your chosen surface in the relevant location.
  2. Use the U-bracket as a template to mark 2 x mounting holes along the level line. Choose between the two outer mounting holes or two inner mounting holes. For extra support, use additional fixing screws.
  3. To mount onto wood: Fix the bracket to the surface using the relevant length M4/M5 self-tapping wood screws for your surface (minimum 25mm length recommended). Use a 12-15mm penny washer if required.
  4. To mount onto a wall: Drill out the marked holes with a masonry drill bit, and insert the M4/M5 wall plugs. Secure the bracket in position with your selected M4/M5 screws (minimum 25mm length recommended). Use a 12-15mm penny washer if required.
  5. Adjust the head to the desired position and secure by tightening the 2 x butterfly nuts on each side of the U Bracket.

SPOTLIGHTS:

SPIKE MOUNTING

  1. Remove the U-bracket from the spotlight head using the small hex key (see Fig. F).

  2. Remove the socket screw & washer from the ground spike with the large hex key provided.

  3. Place the spike underneath the U bracket, lining up with the predrilled hole.

  4. Secure the spike to the Bracket with the socket screw / washer by hand, then tighten fully with the small hex key provided (Fig. G).

  5. Dampen the ground in the area where the lights are to be installed.

  6. Carefully, push the spike into the ground to the desired depth via the top of the spike.
Do NOT put pressure on the side of the U-bracket or force into hard ground.
WARNING: Pushing the spike into the ground whilst the fitting is fully assembled may result in a damaged bracket.

  7. Gently compact the earth around the spike to ensure the spike is mounted firmly into the ground and does not move from side to side.

  8. Reattach the spotlight to the U-Bracket as per point 1 – see fig. F (washer to be located between the body of the spotlight and the u-bracket).Spotlights:

SURFACE MOUNTING (fixings not supplied)

To mount onto a wall: Drill out the marked holes with a masonry drill bit, and insert the M4 wall plugs. Secure the bracket in position with your selected M4 screws (minimum 25mm length recommended). Use a 10-12mm penny washer & lock washer if preferred. Reattach the spotlight to the U-bracket as per point 1 – see fig. F (washer to be located between the body of the spotlight and the U-bracket).
    Spotlights:

ADJUSTING THE SPOTLIGHT HEAD:

The head can be adjusted and set at various angles via the U Bracket. If this is too secure to adjust, follow the following steps:

  1. Support the head and loosen the 2 x socket screws found on each side of the U Bracket using the small hex key provided by turning anti-clockwise – one turn should be enough to allow the head to move (see Fig. F).
  2. Angle the head in the desired position and tighten the loosened screws to secure in place.

CHARGING:

FIRST CHARGE: It is recommended to charge for 2 days prior to first use. Turn off the luminaires on the first night via the remote control. To check if the fitting is turned on during daylight, cover the solar panel. The light will illuminate if turned on.

REMOTE CONTROL FUNCTIONS:

A number of functions can be selected via the remote control (See Fig. H)

Default setting: dusk to dawn

Receiver on battery box – at rear of solar panel (up to 5m range) When dusk to dawn mode is selected, a gradual dimming sequence will be followed to prolong the battery life: 1hr @ 100%, 2hrs @ 70%, 4hrs @ 50%, 5 hrs @ 30% When an alternative setting is selected, the luminaries will flash once to confirm. With the exception of forced ON, the luminaries will only illuminate during dusk / darkness

Remote Control Functions:

STORAGE:

When storing this solar light, be sure to turn it to the off position via the silver power button on the battery box (test by covering the solar panel). Max. 6 months storage when fully charged – recharge will be required periodically to prevent damage to battery over long periods of time.
