These full body harnesses are authorised and tested (rated load)
for a total weight up to 136 kg.
We point out explicitly that in case of weights (rated loads)

100 to 136 kg, all individual parts used in the fall arrest system (in particular
the FALL ENERGY ABSORBER) have likewise got to be checked for a total weight of 136 kg
and authorized.

To find the exact type designation and information on the technical status of the test
standard, please refer to the identification on your full body harness.

Function and application

Full body harnesses are employed by the user for protection in an area where falling from a
height is a danger, and may be employed only as specified.
If the full body harness is provided with the safety belt feature, it may
only be used for the positioning of the user according to specification.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) against falls from a height may be employed as a
protection against falls from a height for short-term work only.

Notes on use

Attaching the full body harness

  1. Lift the full body harness at the rear D-ring.

  2. Open all close-offs.

  3. Place the full body harness on like a jacket from behind over the shoulder, and
    ensure the webbing is not twisted.

  4. Adjust the abdominal belt according to the abdominal circumference.

  5. To close the leg belts, grip through the step and pull the webbing toward the front.
    Then close the belt buckles and adjust the webbing accordingly. The leg connection
    belt must fit on the thigh under the buttocks.

  6. Shorten or extend the shoulder straps by threading back the webbing and thus adjust
    to the correct length.

  7. Close breast belt.

  8. Pull the plastic slides under the respective close-offs and the second to the end of the
    webbing. This prevents any slipping of the webbing

After adjusting the full body harness,
check that no webbing is twisted and that all
straps are closed and seated correctly. The rear
reception eyelet
(D-Ring with back plate) should always be located
at shoulder height and the
breast belt located centrally on the chest.

Important:

Become familiar with the function of the full body harness before first use.
In this case, put on the full body harness as described above and, as a trial, attach at ground
level with fastening (e.g. safety rope). Load the belt through body weight; leg loops must
enclose the thighs trouble-free. Hanging in the belt shouldn’t usually cause any difficulties,
otherwise check the belt adjustment. With the loading of the full body harness, the webbing
settles into the respective hardware parts and any yielding of the webbing is thus minimized

Use of the reception eyelets:

Basically only use them together and
in this case use a connecting element EN 362, Class M
or B for correct locking.
The reception eyelets are determined exclusively for use with a fall arrest system according
to EN 363 e.g.:

In combination with the following:

  • Fastenings with fall energy absorber EN 354/355
  • Retractable type fall arresters EN 360
  • Guided-type fall arresters EN 353-2
  • Abseiling and rescue devices EN 341 and 1496
  • Walkway protection with fixed anchor line EN 353-1

The connection of the arresting and retention belts with the fall arrest system must be
guaranteed by proper use of the connecting elements and anchoring units.

➢ Use of the rear reception eyelet in the Var. B 3
as a back eyelet extension:

In the implementation Var. B3, full body harness is provided with a
fastening of Type Band B3 with a maximum fastening length of 0.5 m.
This fastening is firmly sewn on at the back-reception eyelet and is
used to facilitate operation of this back-reception eyelet (e.g. in case of
utilization with retractable-type fall arresters). The Type Band B3
webbing employed here was tested successfully over an edge. In this
case, a steel edge with a radius of r = 0.5 mm (without a burr) was
used. Based on this test, the equipment in corresponding composition
is suitable for use over similar edges, e.g. those on rolled-steel profile
sections, timber beams or encased, rounded roof parapets
(enquire with the manufacturer).

➢ Caution:

In case of the use of fastenings with fall energy absorbers it is to be ensured that the
maximum length of 2 m is not exceeded (fastenings + fall energy absorber 1.5 m

  • stitched
    web in the back-reception eyelet 0.5 m). If guided-type fall arresters are employed, the snap
    hook must be hooked directly into the reception eyelet (D-ring). Also in case of fastenings
    with fall energy absorbers with a length of 2 m, the snap hook must be placed directly into
    the reception eyelet.

Use of the rear reception eyelet in the Var. Tyger with firmly sewn-on
fastenings with integrated tear / fall-energy absorber (Type Tyger 3)

Important:
In this case you must ensure that the ride-up protection eyelet (D-ring) is always
located centrally in front on the stomach.

➢ Use of the rescue eyelets
If the full body harness (Var. D) should be equipped with two
rescue eyelets on the shoulder straps, then these are basically
to be used only with a twin fastening, according to EN 354, for
the saving of persons.
Never employ these two rescue eyelets as protection
against fall from a height.

General notes

➢ Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) against falls from a height may be employed as
a protection against falls from a height for short-term work only.
➢ Personal Protective Equipment against fall from a height should be made available to
the user in person.
➢ If work is carried out where there is a danger of falling, suitable fall- arrest systems
must be employed (see EN 363).
➢ In a fall arrest system, only full body harnesses EN 361 and fall-energy absorbing
elements (e.g. strip fall absorbers, height safety units, ascent protection devices) may
be used.
➢ The maximum length of a connecting agent, including all components (strip fall
absorber, final connection and connecting elements), may not exceed 2 m (never
extend or shorten using knots).
➢ To avoid the risk of a fall when adjusting the length of a connecting agent, the user
may not remain in an area where there is a danger of falling from a height.
➢ With the utilization of a fall arrest system (EN 363), the required open space below
the user is to be checked before every employment at the workplace so that, in case
of a fall , no impact on the ground or any other obstacle is possible.
➢ If doubts should exist regarding safe use, or if the equipment has been stressed
through a fall from a height, the overall equipment must be withdrawn from use
immediately.
➢ A PPE stressed by a fall from a height may be used again only following written
approval from an expert.
➢ The use of this equipment is permitted to trained or expert persons only or use is
subject to direct expert monitoring.

In this implementation, max. admissible total weight (rated load) of person 50-136 kg.
In case of the implementation Var. Tyger, a fastening with tear / fall-energy absorber Type
Tyger 3, with a maximum length of 2 m, has been firmly sewn into the rear reception eyelet.
This fastening with tear / fall-energy absorber must not be extended or manipulated.
The snap hook at the end of the fastening is attached directly to the anchor point. As an
appendix to these directions for use, the directions on the use of the connecting agent with
integrated tear-open / fall-energy absorber – tested according to EN 354/355 – are
additionally supplied. The use references are to be observed particularly in this case! If
guided-type fall arresters are employed, the snap hook must be hooked directly into the
reception eyelet (D-ring). It is strictly prohibited to attach the stitched fastening with tear /
fall-energy absorber to the guided-type fall arrester (falls from an excessive height are a
danger to life).

➢ Use of the side hold eyelets
The two side hold eyelets may be employed only for the work positioning (hold function),
where the fastening for safety belts, according to EN 358, is normally to be attached with a 2-
rope connection and adjusted tightly so that any free fall of the user is excluded. The anchor
point in the hold function must be located above the waist. Furthermore, the fastening for the
safety belt must be held tightly and free movement is to be limited to 0.60 m. The adjusting
devices and connecting elements are to be checked regularly during the performance of
work. The description of the connecting agent and its fixing elements can be
found in the directions on use of the manufacturer (e.g. MAS Masi MA4).

Important:
If pocket webs / pocket eyelets are sewn on at the back, these are permissible only for
holding a tool pouch or a tool bag. In no case should a fastening or similar be attached to
them.

Any abuse the side hold eyelets through hanging or sitting in the belt inevitably leads
to damage and is therefore inadmissible.

When working in the work positioning (retention function), this does not protect
securely against a fall from a height, therefore, you must ensure that a corresponding
protection against falling is additionally applied (fall arrest system) when a fall from a
height is a possibility.

➢ Use of the ascent protection eyelet
Identification A EN 353-1 Only Ascent protection eyelet (Pictogram “Cat ladder”)
In this implementation, max. admissible total weight (rated load) of person 100 kg
(only MAS 400 Var. S 136 kg).

The full body harnesses in the variants with the designation “S” are equipped with a ride-up protection eyelet
at the abdominal belt, and therefore can also be employed in connection with a guided type
fall arrester, according to EN 353-1. In this case, the directions on use of the manufacturer of
the ascent protection device must be observed.

Then leave the equipment to dry naturally and keep away from direct thermal action (e.g. fire
or similar heat sources).
The metal fittings are to be cleaned regularly and then lightly oiled or rubbed off with a cloth
and acid-free volatile oil.
You should only disinfect following a discussion with the manufacturer, since this can result
in discoloration of the webbing and in odour generation.
Not all disinfectants are suitable here.

Storage
Harnesses sould be stored and transported in a dry and dust-free state, in a closed metal or
plastic case or PVC bag. Store in a ventilated space and protect against direct solar
radiation. In order to achieve a high service life, the PPE g A should not be exposed longer
than required to strong solar radiation or to rain.

Testing
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) against fall from a height is to be checked competent
professionals or the manufacturer as required, however at least once within twelve months.
The instructions of the manufacturer are to be observed in this case.
PPE g A is to undergo a visual control-check before every use.
The safety of the user is dependent on the effectiveness and stability of the equipment as a
whole. The functions of the device are to be checked by the user and attention must be paid
to the following points:

  • Functional check of the carabiners used

  • Functional check of ascent protection devices or rope adjusters

  • Testing final connections (joints, spliced joints or knots)

  • Check webbing, hardware parts, plastic parts and cables for damage (e.g.
    deformations, cuts, breaks, heat action (weld beads) or wear)

  • The identification on the product is to be checked for legibility.

Duration of utilisation
Good maintenance and storage extend the service life duration of the PPE against fall from a
height and thus provides for optimal safety.
The maximum service life of PPE g A depends on its condition and is normally up to 8.5 years
With consistent documentation of the annual competence tests and positive evaluation
by a skilled agency, the service life can be extended to 10 years.

Explanation of the pictograms
It is absolutely necessary to read the direction for use before use of this PPE and
to consider the warnings.
A Reception eyelet
A/2 Front reception loops (use together only)

➢ Furthermore, before the use of this equipment you must consider how a possibly
necessary rescue can be safely realized (emergency – rescue plan).
➢ Changes or extensions may not be carried out without prior written approval from the
manufacturer. In the same way, all repairs may be carried out only in agreement with
the manufacturer.
➢ This equipment may be used only within the in-service conditions as stipulated and
the planned intended purpose.
➢ The free ends of a double-lined connecting agent (Twin) should not be fixed on the
full body harness (e.g. side hold eyelets).
➢ Two individual connecting agents with a fall energy absorber in each case should not
be used side by side (i.e. arranged in parallel).
➢ Note the correct composition of the overall PPE, since incorrect combinations of
equipment parts with regard to each other (compatibility) can impair the secure
functioning.
➢ Any cable slack build-up should always be minimised.
➢ There must be no health problems present (alcohol, drugs, medication, heart or
circulation problems).
➢ Do not expose to acids, oils and corrosive chemicals, and if this is unavoidable rinse
off immediately after use and have equipment tested by an expert (certified person).
➢ If the risk assessment before work commencement should indicate that a fall over the
edge is possible, the necessary protective measures (edge protection etc.) are to be
taken. A sharp-edge stressing, including all individual components used, must be
avoided.
➢ Textiles are to be protected against heat higher than 60°C. Attention is to be paid to
melting of the webbing. Weld bead markers are also to be considered as melting.
➢ Avoid any corrosion danger and extreme heat and cold. Anchor point:
➢ A labelling or identification of this equipment with a solvent-containing
Textmaker / Edding on supporting webbing or cables is prohibited, since this
can damage the textile fabric.
➢ In case of resale in another country, the vendor must make available the directions
for use, maintenance, regular verification and repairs in the language of the other
country, for the security of the user.
➢ DGUV 112-198 / -199, as well as DGUV 212-870, are to be observed here!
➢ Other national regulatory specifications are also to be adhered to absolutely
➢ The complete documentation, the directions on use, as well as the inspection log,
should be kept with the equipment.

Anchor point
The anchor point (anchor device according to EN 795 or the object with a minimum strength
according to DGUV 112-198 = 750 kg) is to be selected so that free fall and the fall height
are limited to a minimum.
The possible anchor point should located above the user in this case, and should not exceed
the max. angle of 30° to the vertical (swinging).

Cleaning
After completion of work, the equipment should be cleaned of any contamination. Clean with
warm water at 30°C and fabric-sensitive detergent and then dry in the shade.

Warnings
Work with danger of falling must never be carried out alone.

➢ Suspension trauma:
As a result of long hanging in the full body harness, suspension trauma can result.
In this case, the blood circulation in the body is reduced and the inner organs are no longer
supplied with sufficient oxygen.
Therefore it is absolutely recommended to take sweeping measures to decrease any hazard
of suspension trauma, such as e.g. creating a suspension load-relief (Prusik loop, trauma
belt or a length-adjustable connecting agent).
Nevertheless, if a fall from a height with subsequent hanging in the full body harness should
result during work, then rescue must be initiated quickly and immediately. In this case, the
rescued person is to be brought into the so-called squatting and chewing position after the
rescue, and may be moved after an adequate time in this position into a lying flat position.
Medical treatment is specified as mandatory in every case.

Remarks
These directions for use include an inspection log (monitoring card). Prior to the first
application, this inspection log is to be filled in by the user with the necessary information.
Changes and repair work are to be implemented exclusively by the manufacturer.
In addition to these directions for use, the directions for use of the PPE and anchoring
possibilities used are to be considered as mandatory.
