IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

READ THIS MANUAL CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING, OPERATING OR SERVICING THIS EQUIPMENT

DANGER

This tank is for use with DIESEL Exhaust Fluid (DEF)
Any dangerous material than DEF is prohibited. These prohibited materials include:

  • Gasoline (UN 1203)
  • Avaiation Fuel (UN 1863)
  • Kerosene (UN 1223)
  • Methanol (UN 1230)
  • Solvents and generic flammable liquids
  • Corrosive substances

The features and materials used for construction of the Auxiliary tank and the 12V transfer pump make the storage and transportation of the following substances prohibited.

  • Liquids with viscosity > 20 cSt
  • Water
  • Food liquids

WARNING

It is important to follow the following precautions:

  • DO NOT use the Auxiliary tank is areas where explosive fumes can accumulate.
  • Always use in a well ventilated area.
  • DO NOT smoke or use flames or sparks near the tank.
  • Keep the tank at least 3 feet from the battery.
  • Thoroughly clean-up any leaks or spills.
  • DEF can be corrosive to materials such as carbon steel, aluminum, copper and zinc.

CAUTION

The Diesel Exhaust Fluid tank must be completely recessed into the empty space of JDI-AFT106 (Auxiliary Fuel Tank) making sure that its lowest cylinder bottom fits into the diesel cylinder space to prevent the tank fron shifting or sliding during transport or use. (See page 2 for more information.)

To avoid any risk of evaporation, keep the filler cap of the DEF tank securely closed.

DO NOT overfill the tank. Leave a minimum 5% empty space to allow the expansion of the fuel if the tank is exposed to high temperatures.

To avoid damage to the submerged 12V transfer pump, it should be used ONLY within the following timelines:

  • Once the pump switch is trun ON. Start filling (using the nozzle) within 2 minutes
  • Maximum of 30 minutes of continuous use in normal continuous use in normal conditions
  • When not using nozzle, turn OFF the pump switch

Regulations for the transportation of diesel exhaust fluid vary from state to state. It is the vehicle operator’s responsbility to comply with all federal, state and local regulations.

Use of this Auxiliary tank with any fuel other than DEF will VOID the warranty.

OPERATING THE DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID

Filling the Auxiliary Tank With Diesel Exhaust Fuid.
Operating Diesel

  1. Before filling make sure the tank has no defects in the structure or equipment.
  2. Fill the tank slowly to prevent splashing fluid.
  3. When filling the tank a minimum empty space must be maintained to make sure that when the DEF evaporates due to heating, vapors are not emitted into the atmosphere.
  4. It is recommended not to fill the Auxiliary Tank beyond 95% of capacity – approximately 9.5 gallons.

Securing and Transporting Filled Auxiliary Tank

  1. The DEF Tank must be fully recessed into the JDI-AFT106 Diesel Tank before transporting to avoid movement.
  2. Make sure that its lowest cylinder bottom fits into the diesel cylinder space
  3. DO NOT place the tank inside a trunk or passenger compartment.

DEF Transfer

To begin the transfer process follow these operations in order:
Operating Diesel

  1. Make sure the switch on the transfer pump is in the OFF (“O”) postion. (See item 5)
  2. Connect the power cables with I/O switch to electrical connector located on JDI-AFT106. (See Item 5 & 8)
  3. Unroll the transfer hose and insert the nozzle into the destination tank with nozzle blocked in the OPEN position. (See Item 4)
  4. Start the transfer pump by placing the switch in the ON (“I”) position.
  5. Proceed with the transfer for a maximum of 30 minutes from the time the pump was turned ON. DO NOT run pump when not transferring for more than two minutes.
  6. Fill the DEF Tank to the desired level. (See Item 3)

When transfer is completed follow these operations in order:

  1. Stop the transfer pump by placing the switch in the OFF (“O”) position.
  2. Relieve all residual pressure in the hose by dispensing more liquid holding the nozzle handle OPEN for a few seconds.
  3. Roll-up the transfer hose and place the hose and nozzle in their proper positions.
  4. Disconnect the power cables from the battery terminals and store in the proper position.
  5. Thoroughly clean-up an leaks or spills
