Unbalance

By changing the weight of the freely oscillating part (e.g. by attaching an additional oscillating weight to the piston or housing), the oscillation bandwidth and the unbalance change. This means that by selecting the freely oscillating part, the unbalance can be preselected.

Sound level

The sound pressure level is 64 – 79 dB (A) at an air pressure of 6 bar, depending on the type (with silencer), and lower at a lower air pressure.

Service life

The technical performance data changes over the service life (wear and contamination).

  4. Air outlet/silencer
  5. Piston
  6. Additional oscillating weight (optional)
    A Chamber A
    B Chamber B

Function

The NTK generate linear vibrations.
The vibration is generated by a freely oscillating, self-reversing piston.
Both weights, the piston (5) with an additional oscillating weight (6) on the one hand, the housing (2) and the weight to which it is attached on the other, oscillate in relation to their total weights against each other. If the vibration amplitude of the weight to be vibrated should be higher, then a larger additional oscillating weight (6) is simply screwed to the piston (5).
To keep the weight to be vibrated low, the piston can be connected to it (in the case of steel housings), in which case the housing (2) oscillates freely, if necessary with an additional oscillating weight.
The compressed air enters chamber A via the air inlet (3). The piston is pressed by the air in the direction of the cover (1). When the piston exceeds a defined position, then compressed air reaches chamber B via control bores in the piston. As the piston surface of chamber B is greater than that of chamber A, the piston is pressed in the opposite direction.
When another control bore reaches the air outlet (4), then chamber B is vented and the process begins again.
As the piston always reverses again before the end stop, the exhaust air only produces a slight noise, which is minimized by a silencer (4).

Transport and storage

Transport conditions

Special conditions of transport are not required.

Use suitable lifting equipment to move the NTK 85 E and the NTK 110 E.

A transport lug can be screwed into the piston or into the housing (M 20 thread) when lifting.

Note:The piston moves out of the housing when lifted and into the housing when lowered.

Be careful when lifting and lowering

Packaging

The NTK are packed and ready for assembly. Accessories and add-on parts are delivered unmounted, unless otherwise agreed upon.
The packaging protects the NTK from transport damage. The packaging material has been selected from an environmentally safe and technically disposable point of view and is therefore recyclable.
The return of packaging to the material cycle conserves raw materials and reduces the amount of waste.

Storage conditions

  • Store the NTK in a dry and clean environment.
  • Protect the NTK from UV-exposures, weather and ozone.
  • The storage temperature is between -20 °C and +60 °C.
  • Close all openings when re-storing.
  • Preserve the NTK with steel housing before storing:
  1. Put anti-corrosion oil into the air in- and outlet of the NTK.
  2. Pull the piston of the NTK in and out while turning it several times.
  3. Close the air supply connections of the NTK.

Installation

Observe the safety instructions in chap. Safety, from page 5 on.

Technical data

Information regarding tightening torques for screws as well as cross sections for valves and hoses can be found in Ch. Technical data, page 7.

Procedure

When installing the NTK, carry out the following steps in succession:

  1. Notice: The NTK must rest fully so that no tension in the housing occurs when tightening the fastening screw, which could cause mechanical damage. Mount the NTK with the central fastening screw and a suitable lock washer on a clean and even surface (±0,1 mm flatness) without any paint residues or burn-ins.
Depending on the intended use, NTK can be screwed on either with the housing or with the piston.
Types from size NTK 55 E up have additional mounting holes (4) in the housing.
If necessary, use all additional mounting holes and the corresponding number of lock washers to additionally secure the housing to the mass to be vibrated.
    Mounting hole
    4 Mounting hole

  2. Observe the recommended values for screw sizes and tightening torques.

  3. In addition, use a medium-strength liquid safety agent to secure the screw connections.

  4. Observe the recommended cross-sections for valves and hoses. For the air supply, preferably use screw connections with integrated seals or liquid sealant. Notice: Do not use sealing tape for the screw connections. Do not use longer screw threads for the air supply than intended (e.g. no pipes with external thread). Otherwise, the housing may become deformed and the piston may jam.

  5. Fasten the compressed air supply securely.

  6. Mount the silencer/silencers.

Air supply

The loss of pressure increases with hose length. The nominal diameters in Ch. Technical data, from page 7 on, apply to hose lengths up to 3 m. Longer supply lines require larger cross-sections.

Air discharge line

If necessary, the escaping air is diverted through a hose, which must be installed as follows:

  1. Remove the silencer.
  2. Fasten the exhaust air hose directly to the exhaust air connection.
  3. Mount the silencer at the free end of the exhaust hose.

If the NTK is to achieve full performance, then the exhaust hose must have a larger nominal size than the supply hose.

Fitting the bellows

Notice: In dusty environment or with oil-free operation the NTK must be operated with bellows or other suitable dust protection.
How to assemble the optional Netter bellows NFB:

  1. Clean (degrease) the contact surfaces on the NTK and on the additional oscillating weight.
  2. Remove the protective foil from an adhesive surface on the bellows.
  3. Slide the bellows over the piston and glue the bellows to the body of the NTK.
  4. Hold the piston by the wrench flats with a wrench. Attach the additional oscillating weight to the piston with a screw with a medium-strength screw locking agent. If no additional oscillating weight is used with freely oscillating piston, a sheet metal disk with the diameter of the vibrator housing must be screwed onto the piston.
  5. Remove the protective film from the free adhesive surface of the bellows and press the adhesive surface onto the additional oscillating weight or the sheet metal disc.

With the easy-to-release Velcro fasteners on the bellows, the wrench flats on the piston remain accessible.

Supported vibration mass

For inclined or horizontal mounting of the NTK, the vibration mass of the freely oscillating part S1, S2 or S3 (see section Parameters, page 9) may only exceed the following value if the vibration mass is supported by a spring:

Type NTK Vibration mass to be supported [kg]
8 AL 0.15
15 X 0.70
16 1.00
18 AL, 18 AL M1 0.75
25 AL 1.60
25 3.00
28 AL 1.60
40 AL 3.5
40 5.0
55 AL 6.5
55 NF 9.5
85 NF 18.0
110 20.0

Using as impactor

Using the NTK as impactor is possible.
A prior consultation with NetterVibration is recommended.

The piston must strike against a surface standing vertically to the NTK.
For this application lubricated compressed air is mandatory.

Provide shielding

Warning: NTK have moving parts which can cause injuries. Direct contact with an oscillating part must be prevented on site by structural measures, for example by shielding.
For the NTK 8 AL type a cover sleeve can be supplied.

Observe the safety instructions in chap. Safety, from page 5 on.

Permissible operating conditions

Please refer to chap. Technical data, page 7 for permissible operating conditions.

Setting the frequency

The frequency of the NTK should be set with the pressure regulator of the maintenance unit.
The frequency is reduced by lowering the air pressure before the NTK.
The centrifugal force is hereby also reduced. At the same time the amplitude remains almost constant.

Adjustment of amplitude

If required, install a throttle valve in the exhaust air line in order to adjust the amplitude of the NTK by throttling the exhaust air. By throttling the exhaust air, the centrifugal force is reduced. The frequency hereby remains almost constant.
Important: Reduced cross-sections already throttle (observe the nominal diameter).
Reduce the amplitude only up to approx. 50 %. This can cause start-up problems if below.

Influence of vibrating mass

Depending on the vibration mass attached to the piston, the amplitude and frequency change.
A smaller vibration mass increases the frequency and reduces the amplitude. A larger vibration mass increases the amplitude and reduces the frequency.

Setting mist lubricator

Set the mist lubricator to the smallest safely adjustable number of drops while the NTK is running. Notice: The NTK is ready for operation only after adjustment and correct functioning of the mist lubricator.

Recommended number of drops

NetterVibration recommends setting the following number of drops, depending on the type of NTK, on the mist lubricators:

NTK Number of drops
8 AL, 15 X, 16, 18 AL, 18 AL M1, 25, 25 AL, 28 AL 1-2 drops/min
40, 40 AL, 55, 55 AL 2-3 drops/min
85, 110 3-4 drops/min

Checklist start-up

Check that the following steps have been carried out:

Screw connections checked before start-up?

Desired frequency set on pressure regulator?

Desired amplitude set by throttling the exhaust air?

Mist lubricator set?

After one hour of operation:
Hose supply connections as well as fastening screws checked, retightened, if necessary?
Then follow the maintenance plan.

Maintenance and servicing

Observe the safety instructions in chap. Safety, from page 5 on.

Cleaning

If necessary clean the surface of the NTK with a moist cloth to remove dust deposits.

To clean the NTK with pressurised water, proceed as follows:

  1. Close the supply air and exhaust air openings.
  2. Clean the NTK externally with pressurised water.
  3. Activate the NTK briefly.

Maintenance plan

Maintenance of the NTK must be carried out as follows:

Interval Action
After one hour of opera- tion after initial commis- sioning Check fastening

screws.
Check hose screw connections and hose fittings, retighten if necessary.
Weekly to monthly| Ensure that mist lubricator operates according to regulations. Refill oil if necessary (except for the NTK L).
Clean the filter of the maintenance unit and replace, if neces- sary.
Monthly| Check fastening screws.

Check hose screw connections and hose fittings, retighten if necessary.
Check hose supply connections for permeability and kinks. If necessary, clean and remove kinks.
Check the function of the silencer. Clean silencer.
Check the function of the NTK.

  • Observe the recommended tightening torques (see Ch. Technical data, from page 7 on).

Maintenance intervals

The maintenance intervals depend essentially on the operating conditions, the service life and how clean the drive medium is.
Unfiltered compressed air leads to high wear, clogging of the silencer or complete breakdown of the NTK.

Loss of performance/ complete cleaning

Depending on the operating conditions, increased abrasion can form a deposit which impairs the performance.
If you notice loss of performance or standstill of the NTK clean the NTK completely and replace the sealing rings if necessary.
For complete cleaning of the NTK it is necessary to remove the piston.
The deposit must be removed from the inside of the housing and the piston with an oiled cloth.

Implementation by Netter

Maintenance, repair and general overhaul of the NTK may alternatively be performed by NetterVibration.

Troubleshooting

Malfunctions and causes

In the case of malfunctions of the NTK proceed as follows:

Malfunction Possible cause Corrective action
No start Silencer polluted Clean silencer.
Compressed air supply Check if there is enough pressure at the NTK. Check

valve. A 3/2-way valve is strictly required, so that the supply line to the NTK is vented.
Cover loose| A leaky cover leads to standstill of the NTK. Tighten screws.
Line cross- sections| Observe recommended cross-sections (see Ch. Technical data, from page 7 on).
Line too long between valve and NTK| Leads to a slow start and an eventual standstill of the piston in the middle position. If necessary, put a controlled 3/2-way air valve before the NTK.
Exhaust air throt- tled too much| Open the throttle valve further. Clean silencer.
Thread of grom- met is too long| Check if the housing is deformed. In case of deformed housing, have the NTK checked by Netter Vibration.
Tension during installation| Ensure a flat contact surface.
Temperature below 5 °C| Use NT-Version or heat the environment.
No 3/2-way valve or wrong cross section| Use a 3/2-way valve with adequate cross section.
Rattling| Screws loose| Check fastening screws.
Power loss| Lubrication is missing| Check the function of the mist lubricator.
NTK polluted| Disassemble NTK and clean it.
Wear| Check piston and housing for visible wear (deposit on piston and inside housing). If wear is found clean the NTK completely (see page 21 “…/complete clean- ing”).Alternatively send the NTK to Netter Vibration or re- place it.Check the function of the mist lubricator.
Operating pres- sure too low| Check the pressure at the inlet of the NTK during operation. If necessary, increase the pressure. Check line cross- sections.
