Introduction

WBC-102 Glass Windbreak minimizes the influences of external air turbulence and allows efficient weighing with the three sliding doors.
Read this manual and the instruction manual of your balance carefully before use and keep the manuals for future reference.

For information on the following points, please contact your Shimadzu Balance representative.

WBC-102 can be used with the small-pan models (capacity 1,020g or less) of UP and UW/UX series only.

Safety Precautions
To be strictly observed
To ensure that you use the balance safely and correctly, read the following precautions carefully and observe them.

The levels of danger and damage that will arise if the balance is used incorrectly are classified and indicated as shown below.

Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in serious injury or possibly death.

CAUTION
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor to moderate injury or equipment damage.

Precautions are classified and explained by using one of the symbols below, depending on the nature of the precaution.

Indicates an action that must be performed.

Prohibitions
Indicates an action that must NOT be performed.

Never disassemble, modify or attempt to repair this product or any accessory.
You could sustain an electric shock or the product could operate abnormally.
If you believe that the balance has failed, contact your Shimadzu representative.

Do not use the Windbreak outdoors or anywhere where it will be exposed to water.

CAUTION

Avoid locations where the balance will be exposed to any of the following.

This could cause accidents or poor performance.

  • Extreme temperature changes
  • Vibration
  • Direct sunlight
  • Corrosive or flammable gases
  • Dust, electromagnetic waves or a magnetic field

Instructions
Install the balance on a strong and stable flat table or floor.

Placing the Windbreak in an unstable site could lead to injury or trouble with the Windbreak.

Instructions
Treat the balance with care and respect.
The Windbreak is a precision instrument. Subjecting it to impacts could cause it to fail.
When moving the Windbreak, grasp it firmly with both hands to carry it.
If the Windbreak has to be stored for a long time, store it in the packaging box in which it was delivered.

Prohibitions
Do not set on anything other than balance specified by Shimadzu.
In order to avoid trouble, always set on balance devices in accordance with the directions in this manual.

Unpacking

Unpack and remove all the items from the delivery box. Check if all the listed items are present and nothing has been damaged.

Installation

  1. Remove the pan and the four pan supporter caps from the balance.
    If the balance has two screw holes plugged with rubber caps, remove the rubber caps also. The screw holes exist depending on the balance version.SHIMADZU

  2. In case there are screw holes of the balance, peel off the two sealing stickers on the floor of Windbreak.SHIMADZU UW UX Series Glass Windbreak - Sealing stickers

  3. Place Windbreak holder as shown in the figure, and fix it by tightening two fixing knobs against the two screw holes on the back of the balance.SHIMADZU UW UX Series Glass Windbreak - Fixing knobs

  4. Fit the windbreak to the top of the balance by lowering it from the above. Then, slide the sliding knob to the “FIX” position to fix the windbreak to the balance.SHIMADZU UW UX Series Glass Windbreak - Sliding knob

  5. In case there are screw holes on the top of the balance, open the side glass doors of windbreak, then, place and tighten two fixing knobs to fix windbreak to the balance top.SHIMADZU UW UX Series Glass Windbreak - Fixing knobs 2

  7. Check if the bubble of level indicator in the rear of the balance is in the center of the red circle. If not, perform level adjustment according to the balance instruction manual.

Operation

  1. Close all the glass doors of the windbreak. Connect AC adapter and turn the power ON according to the balance’s instruction manual.
  2. When placing or removing the sample (including the container) to or from the pan, open the most convenient door.
  3. Close all the doors before reading the display.

Maintenance and Transport

Cleaning
Clean by wiping with a soft cloth soaked in neutral detergent and wrung tightly. The glass doors can be removed to allow cleaning and replacement. Never use organic detergents and chemicals or chemical wiping cloths, as they may damage the coating.

When the glass door does not slide smoothly
The glass doors (two side doors and one top door) of WBC-102 can be removed to allow replacement and cleaning.
(How to remove glass door)

  1. Remove the pan and the four pan supporter caps of the balance.
  2. Unscrew and remove the inside knob on the glass door as shown in the figure.
  3. Slide the glass door out backwards.

Transporting the balance
When moving by hand …

When using other methods of transport …
Dismount the windbreak from the balance and use the delivery box of each product.

Caution
Handle the glass doors with good care to keep them from breaking and not to injure the hands.
When removing the knob on the inside of the door, be very careful not to allow the hand to touch the pan supporter shaft of the balance.
Read the balance’s instruction manual for instruction on transporting the balance.
