Work area safety

  1. Do not expose this connector to rain, snow, or wet condition. Otherwise water may get into the connector and cause electric shock or short circuit.
  2. Do not operate this connector in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases or dust. Risk of explosion or fire.

Electrical safety

  1. Use a USB cable that matches the USB
    Type-C terminal. Do not modify the USB cable.
    Otherwise malfunction may occur.

  2. Do not short the terminal. Keep the terminal away from other metal objects, like needles or wires, which can make a connection from one terminal to another. Shorting the terminals together may cause burns or a fire.

  3. Use this connector only with specifically designated battery packs. Do not use the modified battery. Use of any other battery packs may create a risk of injury and fire.

Service

  1. Have this connector serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of this connector is maintained.
    Do not disassemble or tamper with this connector. It may result in a fire, excessive heat, or explosion.
    If you notice any abnormality in this connector, send it Makita Authorized or Factory Service Centers for inspection and repair.
    If a person without repair knowledge and skills repairs this product, not only it will not perform sufficiently, but there is also the risk of an accident or injury.

Additional safety warnings

  1. Inspect for damaged parts. If any abnormality or malfunction occurs, stop using this connector immediately.
    If you continue to use it, smoke/ fire, electric shock, and injury may occur. <Examples of abnormalities/failures>
    — The cable or the terminal are abnormally hot.
    — There is deep scratches or deformation.
    — When touching the USB cable, conductors may or may not be energized.
    — It smells burnt.
    — There is an electrical sensation.
    If you feel any trouble, immediately disconnect power source from the connector and contact Makita Authorized or Factory Service Centers for inspection and repair.

  2. If you notice any abnormalities such as heat generation of the battery cartridge during use, immediately remove and stop using the battery cartridge. Continued use may cause smoke, fire, or explosion.

  3. Do not store and use this connector in locations where the temperature may reach or exceed 50 °C (122 °F).
    Store in a dry place and out of the reach of children. There is a risk of an accident.

  4. Do not touch the terminals with wet hands. Risk of electric shock.

  5. Do not drop this connector. Risk of malfunction.

WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH ADP12

For details on how to use the app, refer to the app web manual for ADP12. (Refer to Fig.1.)

Features

  • Anti-theft setting (PIN code)
    You can set the PIN code for each tool and battery cartridge. Only the combination of the tool and battery cartridge with matching PINs can be operated.

  • Battery timer setting
    An expiration time/date can be set to battery cartridges according to a construction schedule so that the cartridges are not usable after the construction is finished.

  • Service assistance
    — Tool checker
    Tool status and operation history can be displayed.
    — Battery checker
    Battery status and operation history can be displayed.
    — Notepad registration
    You can register characters in the tool and battery cartridge (the number of characters that can be registered depends on the model). It is used for tool management and maintenance history.

NOTE: Some features are not available depending on the tool.
NOTE: In the tool checker, the number of operation history may be displayed even with the brand new tool due to the inspections in factory, etc.

PRIOR TO USE

Installing the app

  • The app is free, but a separate communication fee may be charged when downloading.
  • The app is exclusively for Makita products.
  • Please use the app after agreeing to the latest version of the application terms of use. At the first startup or installing the app, the terms of use screen will be displayed.
  • The application screen may be changed or unavailable without notice due to future updates.

For smartphones/tablets
Preparation in advance
A smartphone/tablet (iOS or  Android) is necessary to use the app.

  • iOS (iPhone): iOS 13 or later is required.
  • Android: Android Version 9.0 or later is required. With some exceptions, Android devices need to allow location information to be used for Bluetooth connections.

Installing the app

  1. Search for “Makita Tool Management” on App
    Store or Google Play.
    You can also access from the QR code in the following figure.

  2. Install the app. A “Makita Tool Management” icon will be created on the home screen.

For PCs
System requirements
The PC must satisfy the following requirements to use the app.

  • OS: Windows 10, or Windows 11

Installing the app

  1. Access the URL shown in the following figure.

  2. Download “Makita Tool Management SetupEN v1020.exe” and install the app.

Connecting the PC
Before starting the app, connect this connector to the PC.

NOTICE: Do not disconnect the USB cable while the USB connection lamp of this connector is flashing.

Installing the battery cartridge/tool
Optional accessory
Before starting up the app, install the battery cartridge and the tool to this connector.

Installing or removing battery cartridge
CAUTION:
Always install the battery cartridge fully until the red indicator cannot be seen. If not, it may accidentally fall out of this connector, causing injury to you or someone around you.
CAUTION: Be careful not to pinch your finger between the battery cartridge and the terminals.
NOTICE: Charge the battery cartridge before use. The battery cartridge that has no remaining capacity cannot be used.
NOTICE: When removing the battery cartridge, make sure that the installed tool is completely stopped and there is no communication with the app. Otherwise malfunction may occur.
To install the battery cartridge, align the tongue on the battery cartridge with the groove in the housing and slip it into place. Insert it all the way until it locks in place with a little click. If you can see the red indicator as shown in the figure, it is not locked completely. To remove the battery cartridge, slide it from this connector while sliding the button on the front of the cartridge.

Installing or removing tool
CAUTION: Do not put your finger on the switch of the tool. Otherwise unintentional starting may cause and injury result.
NOTICE: When installing or removing the tool, make sure that the installed tool is completely stopped. Otherwise malfunction may occur.
NOTICE: When removing the tool, make sure that there is no communication with the app. Otherwise malfunction may occur.
NOTE: The tool does not drive with this connector attached.
To install the tool, align the tongue on this connector with the groove in the housing and slip it into place.
Insert it all the way until it locks in place with a little click.
To remove the tool, slide it from this connector while sliding the button on the front of this connector.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Before asking for repairs, check the following points.

State of abnormality Probable cause (malfunction) Remedy
The connector cannot turn on. The lamp of status does not light. The
remaining battery capacity is low. Charge the battery cartridge.
Battery cartridge is installed improperly. Remove the battery cartridge once.

Re-install the battery cartridge as described in this manual.
The status lamp blinks in red.| The tool is installedimproperly.| Remove the tool once. Re-install the tool as described in this manual.
Battery cartridge is installed improperly.| Remove the battery cartridge once. Re-install the battery cartridge as described in this manual.
The connector cannot establish the conneclion with the smartphone/ tablet.| The signal is weak.| Put the smartphone/ tablet closer to the connector.
Bluetooth con- nection of the smartphone/tab- let is disabled.| Activate the Bluetooth connection of the smartphone/tablet.
The USB con- nection with PC does not work.| The USB cable is not plugged in properly.| Make sure that the USB cable is plugged into the USB port firmly.
The cable is broken.| Use another USB cable.
The USB cable is out of specification.| Use the USB cable which is specified in this manual. Refer to the section for specifications.

If the trouble cannot be solved even after taking the above measures, the connector may be defective.
Please contact Makita Authorized Service Centers.

MAINTENANCE

CAUTION: Always be sure that the tool is switched off and the battery cartridge is removed before attempting to perform inspection or maintenance.
NOTICE: Do not wash the connector with water. Risk of malfunction.
NOTICE: From time to time wipe off the outside of this connector using a cloth dampened in soapy water.
NOTICE: Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or the like. Discoloration, deformation or cracks may result.
To maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs, any other maintenance or adjustment should be performed by Makita Authorized or Factory Service Centers, always using Makita replacement parts.
