DAK-USVD Drive Thru Alert Kit
Including USD-4X ™ & CHIME-100 ™ Ultrasonic
Vehicle Detector and Auditory Alert Accessory

QuickStart Guide
This guide will cover the basics of interfacing a USVD-4X ultrasonic vehicle detector with a CHIME-100 auditory alert system. The USD-4X will provide vehicle detection in  an easy-to-install package. The CHIME-100 will provide audio feedback based on when the USVD-4X detects a vehicle.

Cautions and Warnings

| Maximum volume in close proximities may exceed 100dBA, which can result in permanent hearing damage.
---|---
| When drilling, ensure no damage can be caused in desired mounting location, e.g. hidden wires, waterlines, etc.

QuickStart Installation Steps

1. Mounting the USVD-4X (Ultrasonic sensor, mounted outside)

  • Mount the USVD-4X perpendicular to the side of the vehicle at the desired location near the window.
  • Ensure the USVD-4X is mounted 22-24” above the pavement surface. If you mount the USVD-4X close to the ground, there is a risk that the ground itself will cause the unit to falsely trigger. This risk can be reduced by mounting the sensor at a slight angle away from the ground.
  • Carefully unscrew and rotate the front panel on the USVD so the single transducer (black circle) is on the side where cars will be approaching from. See photo below for reference, the arrow indicates the direction of travel.

2. USVD-4X Configuration (Front panel must be unscrewed/removed to access DIP switches)

  • Place DIP Switch 1, 2, 3, and 4 in the off position.
  • Detection Sensitivity will be set to the max by default, do not adjust unless you have issues with false triggering.
  • Refer to USVD-4X operating instructions for a full explanation of DIP switches and sensitivity adjustment.

3. Mounting the CHIME-100 (Mounted inside only)

  • Mount in the desired location using at least 2 screws to keep it secured. Ensure your cable is long enough to reach the USVD-4X from the CHIME-100.
  • Unscrew the lid of the CHIME-100 and carefully remove the lid (use care as the lid/housing are attached by speaker wires). Insert the cable grip from the outside and secure it by tightening the nut on the inside.
  • Leave the lid off until you are finished wiring in the next section.

4. Wiring the CHIME-100 to the USVD-4X

  • Carefully knock out the bottom punch hole on the USVD-4X and install the watertight strain relief.
  • Thread the cable through the watertight strain reliefs on both devices. Tighten the watertight strain relief around the cable and secure the lid with screws after wiring is finished.
  • Refer to the table below for wiring connections between the USVD-4X and CHIME-100.
Connection on CHIME-100 Wire Color Connection on USVD-4X
V+ OUT Brown PWR – Power Input 1
V- OUT Blue PWR – Power Input 2
INPUT 1 Green 1COM – Relay Common
INPUT 2 Red 1 NO – Relay Normally Open
Not used White Not used

5. CHIME-100 Configuration

  • Plug the supplied power supply into the CHIME-100’s Power Jack. The green Power LED will illuminate and if you are already wired to the USVD-4X, the system will be fully operational.
  • Press the Chime Select Button until you hear your desired chime play, there are six options.
  •  The selected chime will be remembered, even through power down.
  • Using the Volume Adjustment Knob, adjust the audio until it is at a comfortable level.

6. Testing the Setup

  • While someone is observing the CHIME-100, drive a car past the USVD-4X and ensure the CHIME-100 properly activates.
