INTRODUCTION
This document contains mounting instructions for GW1000-WE and GW-1000-NWE Gateways and its accessories. These Gateways can be mounted on the wall, panel, and DIN rail.
Mounting the Gateway on a Wall/Panel Using DIN Rail
-
Mount the DIN rail on the wall/panel by using screws.
-
Remove the bottom Terminal Cover from the Gateway. Use your fingers to push the cover upwards as shown in the below figure.
-
Remove the top Terminal Cover as described in the previous step.
-
Hold the Gateway in an orientation such that the red clip is facing downwards and towards the DIN rail.
-
Tilt the Gateway as shown in the below figure.
-
Mount the top side of the Gateway on the DIN rail and then push the bottom side of the Gateway until the red clip on the Gateway clamps with the DIN rail.
-
Connect the terminal wires, Ethernet cables, and antenna (if applicable). For antenna installation, see the “Antenna” section.
-
Re-mount the terminal covers.
Mounting the Gateway on a Wall/Panel Using Screws
-
Remove the bottom Terminal Cover from the Gate- way. Use your fingers to push the cover upwards as shown in the below figure.
-
Remove the top Terminal Cover as described in the previous step.
-
Extend all the screw clips on the Gateway by placing a flat blade screwdriver on the slot as shown and slide out.
-
Hold the Gateway along the wall and mark four drilling locations through the higher point of the screw clip slots as shown in the below figure.
-
Remove the Gateway from the wall and drill four holes at the marked locations.
-
Insert anchors into the four mounting screw holes.
-
Hold the Gateway along with the wall/panel so that the holes are aligned.
-
Insert the screws into the topside holes first and fasten them with a screwdriver.
NOTE: It is recommended to use the 6-18 1” pan head Phillips tapping screws. -
Insert the screws into the bottom holes and fasten them with a screwdriver.
-
Connect the terminal wires, Ethernet cables, and antenna (if applicable). For antenna installation, see the “Antenna” section.
-
Replace the Terminal Cover or install the Extended Terminal Cover (for more information, see the “Extended Terminal Cover” section).
Extended Terminal Cover
Extended Terminal Covers are used for protecting the Gateway terminals from
being tampered and avoid humacontact when the Gateway is mounted on a
wall/door.
These covers must be purchased separately.
Mounting Extended Terminal Covers
NOTE: The Extended Terminal Covers must be installed only after
completing the terminal wiring and theantenna installation.
- Place the upper Extended Terminal Cover on the topside of the Gateway so that the rectangular slots of the Gateway and the rectangular clip of the ExtendeTerminal Cover are aligned.
- Push the Extended Terminal Cover using both handuntil the cover firmly attached to the Gateway.
- Repeat the step above to mount the lower ExtendedTerminal Cover.
NOTE: To remove the Extended Terminal Cover, a flat blade screwdriver is required. See the “Removing Extended Terminal Covers” section for details.
Antenna
The connected devices can communicate with the Gateway via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth
connections. The Gateway kit contains a Remote antenna that must be installed
manually on the Gateway. The Remote antenna has a cable that connects to the
Gateway, and the antenna is mounted outside the panel/cabinet.
The Local antenna can be purchased separately, and it mounts directly on the
Gateway. The Local Antenna is only used when the Gateway is wall mounted or
mounted outside of a panel/cabinet.
Installing the Local Antenna
-
Insert the antenna terminal end into the SMA connector.
-
Tighten the antenna terminal nut by turning the nut clockwise. Do not over tighten.
Installing the Remote Antenna
- Place the Remote antenna where the signal reception is good.
- Route the Remote antenna wire terminal to the Gateway.
- Insert the wire terminal into the SMA connector.
- Tighten the wire terminal nut by turning the nut clockwise. Do not overtighten.
REMOTE ANTENNA PLACEMENT
-
Place and align the antenna in a way that the Wi-Fi signal does not interfere with many obstacles.
-
Obstacles such as metal, steel-reinforced concrete wall filter ~10-90% of the Wi-Fi signal. Other obstacles such as drywall, wood, glass filter ~0-10% of the Wi-Fi signal.
-
The antenna has a strong signal transmission/reception from the side. See the figure below. Position the sides of the antenna towards the device it is communicating with (e.g Smart IO/WiFi Node).
-
Keep the antenna away from devices that cause wireless interference such as other Wi-Fi network and telecommunications equipment.
-
Make sure that the antenna is installed perpendicular to the surface for a good Wi-Fi signal.
-
Do not install the antenna close to the floor.
-
The Local antenna can be used when the Gateway is installed in a plastic cabinet/enclosure.
Installing Ferrite Ring
Ferrite ring is supplied with the kit. It must be installed on the antenna wire somewhere between 10 to 30 cm from the Gateway.
-
Lift the two locking tabs to open the ferrite ring.
-
Wind the wire three times as shown in the below figure.
-
Lock the Ferrite ring.
Removing the Extended Terminal Covers
-
Insert a flat blade screwdriver into the rectangular slot as shown in the below figure.
-
Use the flat blade screwdriver as a leaver, pull out the top Extended Terminal Cover.
-
Repeat the steps above to remove the bottom Extended Terminal Cover.
Removing the Gateway from the DIN Rail
-
Remove the Terminal Covers if applicable.
-
Disconnect all the communication and power supply terminals from the Gateway.
-
Uninstall the antenna by turning the antenna terminal nut anticlockwise.
-
Hold the Gateway with one hand and insert a flat blade screwdriver into the red clip slot.
-
Pull the red clip downward by using the flat blade screwdriver.
-
After the Gateway is released from the DIN rail, slightly tilt the Gateway on the horizontal axis, lift and detach the Gateway from the DIN rail.
Removing the Gateway from the Wall/Panel
- Remove the Extended Terminal Covers if applicable (see the Removing the Extended Terminal Cover section).
- Disconnect all the communication and power supply terminals from the Gateway.
- Disconnect the antenna by turning the antenna terminal nut anticlockwise.
- Unscrew the bottom side screws first by using a screwdriver.
- Hold the Gateway with one hand and unscrew the top side screws by using a screwdriver.
