Getting Started

Unpack the box, which contains:

  1. Aquarius Unit
  2. AC Power Adapter & Power Cable
  3. Remote Control
  4. User Manual (this document)

Connect Power by gently pushing the USB-C plug end of the Power Cable into the USB-C connector on the lower right edge of Aquarius (see above), then plug the larger USB-A end of the Power Cable into the supplied AC Power Adapter. Plug the Power Adapter into an un-switched wall outlet. The Aquarius USB-C connector only provides power to the Aquarius unit.
Note: Aquarius can also be powered by the internal battery when AC power is not available. If you prefer, you can leave your Aquarius plugged in all the time. When the internal battery is charging the red charging light will be on. Turn on Aquarius by pressing the Power Button. The unit can be turned off immediately with the Power Button, or turned off gradually over time with the Sleep Timer (see page 6).
Note: The unit starts in the ocean category with richness level 1 in that category selected. After that the unit will return to the settings used when you last powered it off using the power button or turned off using the Sleep Timer.
Press The Center Button to select the desired sound category. Press the Richness Button to select the complexity of the sound (see page 5). Adjust the volume with the Volume Up/Down Buttons to a comfortable level. If you try to increase volume beyond the maximum level the Timer light will flash. What Is Special About This Machine?

Richness Control
Aquarius provides three levels of “richness” for the real-time sound generator. As the richness level increases, more sounds are included to generate a more complex sound stream. This layering technique makes the sound generated by Aquarius truly non-looping, and a little different every time you listen.
For example, in the ocean category, the sound stream generated by Aquarius will have the following sounds embedded in it, for the various richness levels:
Richness level 1 : Ocean waves and lapping water
Richness level 2: Ocean waves, lapping & gurgling water
Ri chness level 3 : Ocean waves, lapping/gurgling water, seagulls, sea lions
Note: The various sound components do not all play at the same time and randomly vary over time.
To change the richness level, press the Richness Button:Adaptive Sound

ButtonWhen both lights are off you are in richness level 1, when the leftmost light is on you are in richness level 2, when the rightmost light is on you are in richness level 3.

Bluetooth Operation
Aquarius provides “Bluetooth input mode” (BT-in) and “Bluetooth output mode” (BT-out). Typical BT-in usage is playing music on Aquarius from a smartphone.
Typical BT-out usage is playing the Aquarius sounds on BT headphones. You can also turn Bluetooth off (BT-off).Adaptive Sound Sound+Sleep Aquarius Aquatic
Non Looping Portable Sound - BluetoothTo change operation modes, press the Bluetooth Button. When both lights are off you are in BT-off mode and the Aquarius generated sounds are played on the internal speaker, or to the headphone jack if your headphones are plugged in. Press the Bluetooth Button once and the leftmost light will go on (above the smartphone icon), you are now in BT-in mode and can pair your smartphone or other BT source to Aquarius. Press the Bluetooth Button once more and the rightmost light will go on (above the headphone  icon). You are now in BT-out mode and can pair your BT headphones, BT speaker pillow, or other BT output device, to Aquarius. Press the Bluetooth Button again and both lights go off and you are back in BT-off mode. See the Appendix for pairing details. When you use the Power Button or Sleep Timer to turn off Aquarius, it will remember the mode you had set the next time you power Aquarius on.

Aquarius Remote Control
All operations described in the previous sections can also be performed using the remote control. There are also six “shortcut” buttons on the remote to go directly to the desired sound category, and two shortcut buttons to go directly to the desired mode. The Aquarius remote control buttons are described in the figure below. The remote control requires “line of sight” to the IR sensor on the Aquarius front panel (see page 4). The remote buttons glow in the dark.
Note: You cannot be in BT-in and BT-out mode at the same time. Adaptive

Sleep Timer

Adaptive Sound Sound+Sleep Aquarius Aquatic Non Looping Portable Sound -
Sleep Timer Turning on Aquarius with the Power Button results in continuous play unless the Sleep Timer is turned on. To turn on the Sleep Timer press the Timer Button once and the light next to the Timer Button will blink a few times, you are now set for 1 hour of play. If you press the Timer button again the light will blink again with a different blink pattern, you are now set for 2 hours of play, and a third press will give you 3 hours of play (the light will blink a few times at a fast rate). When set for 3 hours of play you can press the Timer Button again to turn the Timer off. When the Sleep Timer is on it sets Aquarius to play for 1, 2 or 3 hours and then gradually shut off. Use of the Sleep Timer is optional. There is no problem if you want Aquarius playing continuously.

Panel Lights
When any button is pressed, the active lights on the front panel will come on for 30 seconds to display the Aquarius status, and then automatically turn off.

Internal Rechargeable Battery
The internal battery makes Aquarius convenient while on the road. A full charge will allow Aquarius to play for about 32 hours at full volume and longer at lower volumes. In addition, when using Aquarius with AC power, the attery will provide “battery backup” so that if your AC power fails Aquarius will keep playing without interruption.
Note: When the Aquarius battery is charging, the light near the USB-C connector will go on (red). The red charging light is near the “whales” category light. The red charging light will go off when the battery is fully charged (~3.5 hours).
