RUSTY S RA-RR2020-XJ Rusty’s Side Step Rocker Armor Instruction Manual
Introduction:
Rusty’s recommends that this installation be performed by a certified
automotive technician or a personwith professional mechanical knowledge.
Installing this kit without this expertise may jeopardize the han-dling and
safety of the vehicle.
Read instructions several times before starting. Be sure you have all the
needed parts and know where they install. Read each step completely as you go.
Exhaust modifications may be necessary. Prior to drilling or cutting, check
behind the surface being worked on for any wires, lines, or hoses that could
be damaged.
After any drilling or cutting, remove burrs and grind smooth any surfaces. An inclinometer or similar tool may be needed to measure driveshaft angles before and after the installation.

- Park the vehicle on a clean, dry, flat, level surface and block the tires so the vehicle cannot roll in either
- Be certain the vehicle is safely secured on jack stands or a vehicle lift prior to working around or under a Never rely on a jack alone to support a vehicle’s weight; use appropriately rated stands to sup- port the vehicle’s frame an any other heavy components.
Note: Please be sure that you have all the provided parts listed below before continuing with the installation. All hard- ware will be in the driver side rockrail box.

Locate each rock rail and identify driver and passenger The front frame mounting side will be a 2- bolt pattern flat bracket. The rear frame mounting bracket will be a 5-bolt pattern formed bracket.

Clean the frame rail mounting points of any heavy under Ensure the pinch is straight and use a rubber mallet to straighten any bent areas.

Rusty’s rock rails are manufactured to work with most longarm kits as well as factory suspension link sys- If your jeep has a long arm kit and outer frame braces, Skip Step 4. See step 5.

Locate the provided 3/16” Front Mounting Point Spacer with a 2-bolt hole Use masking tape to secure against the rock rail bracket for marking holes. The tape just makes it easier to hold in place.

Locate to the front frame mounting points. This will be just to the rear of the angled slotted hole. Meas- ure from the top surface of the frame (where the pinch seam is welded to the floor board) 1-1/2”. Mark two points several inches away from each other, then connect the lines with masking tape. This will be used to align the bracket once the rock rail is placed. The 1-1/2” inches signify the center of the bolt hole. ( Note: Do not drill any holes until )

Using an assistant, place the rock rail to the frame rail. Locate the rock rail rear mount against the rear leaf spring hanger. Now place the pinch seam mounting bracket upward to the inside of the pinch seam.

Using an assistant, press the rear frame mounting point upward and inward against the frame. Align the front frame mounting point with the masking tape line in the center of each bolt hole. Mark all frame mounting points with a sharpie or paint pen.

Remove the rock rail from vehicle to complete the following steps. ) Center punch each of the marked hole locations.B.) Drill the (Qty: 2) front frame mounting points with a 7/16” drill. ( Note: If the vehicle is
equipped with outer frame braces or anything that covers the area of the front angled slotted hole, you will drill holes with a 21/64” drill and use the supplied 3/8″-16 x 1″ Thread Cutting Screws to secure to the frame.)
C.) Drill the (Qty: 4) rear frame mounting points with a 21/64” drill.
D.) Drill the (Qty: 1) mounting point at the rear leaf spring hanger with a 7/16” drill.

Using an assistant, place the rock rail back in place. Install one 3/8” self-threading bolt in the bottom mounting point (do not tighten fully) and install on 3/8” self-threading bolt in the rear (side of frame) mounting point (do not fully tighten). The rear will now be supported , locate to the front rock rail mounting Place the supplied nut strip in the angle slotted hole with theangle of the nut strip, holding it with vice grips to ensure it does not fall into the frame rail. Install the supplied 3/8” x 1-1/4” hex bolts/washers threading them into the nut strip (do not fully tight- en). At this point the rock rail will hold itself in place, but allow for up and down movement.

Center punch all mounting points on the pinch seam that are Use a low profile drill or a right angle drill with a 1/8” drill bit to make a pilot hole. Then drill mounting points to 9/32”.

Remove any masking tape left in place, and reinstall the rock rail. Loosely install the front and rear frame mounting points, refer back to previous steps if needed. Then loosely install the supplied 1/4” x 3/4” button head allen head bolts at the pinch seam

Level the kicker tube with the body line under the door. Then slowly tighten all the frame mounting Ensure the rock rail is level with the body line, then fully tighten all pinch seam mounting points.

Installation is now complete!
