How to Reinstall Roon Server
Sometimes, a Roon Update can corrupt the system. Fortunately, there is an easy
way to fix this, by simply reinstalling RoonServer. Note that this is not the
regular full Roon install but just the server component.
Until now, the manual method was to download the correct file from the Roon
website and run it on the Extreme. This has now been made a lot simpler via a
dedicated shortcut on the Extreme’s Desktop.
Use the new RoonServerInstall64 Shortcut on the Extreme Desktop The new
shortcut is called RoonServerInstall64 and it automatically links to the
correct installer.
The Extreme Desktop is accessible from another computer or laptop via VNC. See
the Extreme Server manual (also available from the Downloads page on the Taiko
website) for detailed info on how to use VNC.
If you do not yet have this shortcut on your Extreme desktop, you can download
it on your computer or laptop from the Downloads page on the Taiko Audio
website. Please note that the Shortcut is Zipped and needs to be Unzipped
before it can be used. To unzip a Zipped file, double-click to open it and
then drag the Shortcut inside to the desktop of your computer. Then, transfer
the Shortcut to the Extreme, for instance via the D: Music Drive.
After running the short cut, and the file RoonServer64.exe has been
downloaded, you have the option to [Run] or [Save] Choose the Run option, and
a fresh instance of RoonServer will be installed over the corrupted parts and
repair the installation.
Note
When using the shortcut on a working install (which is not necessary and not
recommended), you will need to quit Roon on the Extreme before running the
installer.
To download RoonServer, just double-click the shortcut on the Extreme Desktop. This will prompt a new window, as shown below.
Click the Run button to run the downloaded installer. The file will be scanned
and run.
A new popup will appear as shown below:
Click Install. The process is fully automatic.
When completed, click Next
If you also have XDMS installed, clear the tick for “Start RoonServer” and
click Finish.
If you only have Roon installed, leave the tick, and click Finish.
Finally, close the Downloads window using X or clicking the Close button.
