Product Usage Instructions

Before You Start
Thank you for purchasing the Winter Block Pool Cover. Before you begin the installation process, please read the following instructions carefully to ensure a smooth and proper installation. Make sure to retain this manual for future reference.

Warnings

  1. This is not a safety cover and will not help prevent drowning.
  2. Do not walk or stand on the cover once it is installed.
  3. Ensure there is no access to the pool once the cover is installed.

Prior to Installation

  1. Ensure there are no sharp edges present that may rip the cover prior to installation.
  2. Ensure proper winterization of the pool and its equipment is completed prior to installation.

Installation Steps

Step 1: Using an Air Pillow (Optional)
We recommend using an Air Pillow when installing the Winter Block Pool Cover. Please note that Air Pillows are not included with your cover but are available at most major online retailers.

  1. Secure the Air Pillow to the sides of the pool, ensuring it stays in the middle of the pool.
  2. Leave some slack in the pillow ties to allow for movement.

Step 2: Cable Installation

  1. Weave the cable through the eyelets of the cover in an over/under pattern as shown in Fig. 1.
  2. Cover any sharp edges with masking tape to protect the cover from tearing.
  3. Guide the cover over the pool so that it overhangs on all sides evenly, approximately 12 inches.
  4. Feed the two ends of the cable through the winch, one cable on each side (L and R), and then through the center hole (C) as shown in Fig. 2.
  5. Pull each end of the cable to tighten against the sides of the pool.
  6. Rotate the winch handle in a clockwise direction to firmly hold the cable and cover in place.
  7. Do not pull the cover tightly; allow it to hang around the center air pillow as shown in Fig. 3.

Step 3: Water Bag/Tube Installation (Optional)
If desired, you can use water bags or water tubes to secure the cover further. Please note that water bags and water tubes are not included with your cover, but are available at most major online retailers.

  1. Insert empty water bags or water tubes into the sleeves of the cover.
  2. Fill the water bags about two-thirds full to secure the cover.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  1. Is the Winter Block Pool Cover a safety cover?
    No, the Winter Block Pool Cover is not a safety cover and will not help prevent drowning. Please ensure there is no access to the pool once the cover is installed.

  2. Do I need to use an Air Pillow when installing the Winter Block Pool Cover?
    Using an Air Pillow is optional but recommended. It helps support the cover and prevents water from accumulating in the middle of the pool.

  3. Where can I purchase an Air Pillow or water bags/water tubes?
    Air Pillows, water bags, and water tubes are not included with your cover but can be purchased from most major online retailers.

  4. How should I secure the Air Pillow to the sides of the pool?
    Ensure the Air Pillow stays in the middle of the pool by securing it to the sides. Leave some slack in the pillow ties to allow for movement.

  5. Can I tighten the cover too much?
    Avoid pulling the cover tightly. It should hang around the center air pillow, allowing for some movement.

  6. How do I handle warranty claims?
    All warranty claims must be handled directly with SPQ Brands. Do not return to your dealer. SPQ Brands accepts claims from pool owners only.

BEFORE YOU START
Please read the instructions in their entirety prior to installation to ensure a smooth and proper installation. Retain the manual for future reference. WARNINGS!

  1. THIS IS NOT A SAFETY COVER; IT WILL NOT HELP TO PREVENT DROWNING.
  2. Do NOT walk or stand on the cover once installed.
  3. Ensure there is no access to the pool once the cover is installed. PRIOR TO INSTALLATION:
  4. Ensure there are no sharp edges present that may rip the cover prior to installation.
  5. Ensure proper winterization of the pool and its equipment is completed prior to installation.

INSTALLATION – OVAL AND ROUND ABOVEGROUND POOLS

  1. We recommend using an Air Pillow when installing a Winter Block Pool Cover. Winter Block Air Pillows are not included with your cover, but are available at most major online retailers.
  2. When using an Air Pillow, ensure the pillow is secured to the sides of the pool so that it stays in the middle of the pool, leaving some slack in the pillow ties to allow for some movement.

  4. Ensure any sharp edges are covered to protect the winter cover from tearing. As an example, you can use masking tape as needed on the rough edges.
  5. Guide the cover over the pool so that it overhangs on all sides of the pool evenly, approximately 12”.

  7. Pull each end of the cable to tighten against the sides of the pool and rotate the winch handle in a clockwise direction to firmly hold the cable and cover in place.
  8. The locking clip will hold the winch in the tightened position. If the cable needs to be loosened, turn the handle clockwise ¼ turn and lift the locking clip to unravel the coiled cable.
  9. Do NOT pull the cover tightly, allow it hang around the center air pillow as shown in Fig. 3

Eight year limited warranty from date of purchase with one year full.

  1. At year 1, the claimant shall receive a discount of 100% off the list price of a replacement cover at the date of the claim.
  2. At year 2, the claimant shall receive a discount of 60% off the list price of a replacement cover at the date of the claim.
  3. At year 3, the claimant shall receive a discount of 25% off the list price of a replacement cover at the date of the claim.
  4. At year 4, the claimant shall receive a discount of 20% off the list price of a replacement cover at the date of the claim.
  5. At year 5, the claimant shall receive a discount of 15% off the list price of a replacement cover at the date of the claim.
  6. At year 6, the claimant shall receive a discount of 10% off the list price of a replacement cover at the date of the claim.
  7. At years 7-8, the claimant shall receive a discount of 5% off the list price of a replacement cover at the date of the claim.

ALL WARRANTY CLAIMS MUST BE HANDLED DIRECTLY WITH SPQ BRANDS. DO NOT RETURN TO YOUR DEALER. SPQ BRANDS ACCEPTS CLAIMS FROM POOL OWNERS ONLY.

  • SPQ warrants the cover to be free from manufacturer defects. Inspect thoroughly before installation and install the cover with care. Tears, punctures, abrasions, dislodged eyelets or rips due to improper installation, environmental conditions, Acts of God or improper handling is not covered by this warranty.
  • This warranty is provided to the original owner from the date of purchase for a length of 8 years. This prorated warranty is nontransferable. The following schedule illustrates the percentage of the cover cost that the owner is responsible for based on the date of the claim and purchase date. The MSRP at the time of the claim is used to calculate the prorated amount.
  • What is covered: The winter cover is warranted to be free of defects in material and workmanship when leaving the factory.
  • What is not covered: Any damage due to improper installation, sizing or storage; Damage, defects, malfunctions, or other failures arising from use of the product which does not comply with the instructions provided by the manufacturer; Excessive wear – water levels must not fall below 18″ from the top of the pool, the minimum level required to support snow loads and reduce the chance of cover wear or warping of the hardware, misuse (not being drum tight), neglect, or abuse, including burn holes from smoking or from the effluent of fireplaces, rips and tears caused by acts of nature, rodents and/or people, including animals walking on the cover or a tree limb falling on the cover. Damage, defects, malfunctions, or other failure caused by or related to repairs performed by any servicer other than an authorized service representative of SPQ Brands. Claims will not be accepted for a cover’s damage in transit unless damage to shipping container is noted at time of delivery on the transport company’s delivery bill.
