BEFORE USING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME

  • Remove all packing parts from the kettle and the power supply base.
  • Raise the lid by using the opening button (fig. 2).
  • Remove the lime filter by extracting it from its slot (fig. 3). Carefully wash the filter under running water. (see paragraph: Lime filter maintenance).
  • Re-insert the filter in its slot. (fig. 4).
  • Fill the kettle with water up to (but not beyond) the MAX level mark. Add two tablespoons of bicarbonate and bring to boil (see next paragraph: How to use the electric kettle).

Repeat the procedure twice to make certain that the kettle is clean and to remove any odors that might affect the taste of the water.
HOW TO USE THE ELECTRIC KETTLE Power supply base

  • To extend the cable, flip over the power supply base and unroll the cable from the winder.
Adjust the cable to the length needed to reach the electrical outlet by using the feeds in the base (fig. 5).

  • Place the kettle correctly on the power supply base so that the cable extends from the slot on the kettle (fig. 6).
Attention: The power supply base must always be placed on a flat and stable surface.

  • Insert the plug from the power supply base into the electrical outlet. Attention: Do not let the cable hang over the work surface (fig. 7). Filling
Attention: Always remove the kettle from the power supply base before filling.

  • Raise the lid and position the kettle under the tap. Turn on the water and fill the kettle with water to the required level.

  • Fill the kettle with the amount of water you intend to use: this will reduce boiling time.
Remember that shorter boiling times reduce the formation of lime. Always fill the kettle with at least one cup of water to prevent the kettle from running when dry; such improper use may damage the kettle. Warning: Never exceed the maximum level indicated by the MAX symbol inside the kettle (Fig. 8).

ATTENTION!
If you fill the kettle beyond the maximum level, you risk having boiling water come out, with the consequent danger of scalding and damage to the kettle.

  • Close the kettle by completely lowering the lid until you hear a “click” (fig. 9).
    Switching on/off

  •  Press the ON/OFF lever (fig. 10). The ON/OFF lever lights up: the water heating cycle begins.

  • The kettle switches off automatically a few seconds after the water reaches the boiling point: the switch lever ON/OFF automatically returns to position OFF (fig. 11) and the lamp switches off

  • lift the kettle off the power supply base: the heating process is interrupted and the switch lever ON/OFF returns to initial position (OFF).
    Pouring

  • Lift the kettle off the power supply base and carefully pour the water, keeping the lid closed (fig. 12).

  • Do not tilt the kettle excessively and avoid sudden movements when carrying it.

  • During use, the bottom of the kettle does not become very hot. It is insulated: after pouring the water,  you can place the kettle on any surface.

SAFETY!

Switch lever on/off

  • The kettle has an ON/OFF  switch that automatically shuts off the kettle when the water reaches the boiling point.

  • In order to boil more water, you have to wait about one minute before moving the switch to position e ON .
    Safety device

  • If the kettle is switched on with or no water, a safety device cuts electrical power to protect the kettle against damage.
In such case, disconnect the kettle from the electrical outlet and let it cool before filling it again with cold water.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR ELECTRIC KETTLE
Cleaning of the kettle

  • Attention: Wait until the kettle has completely cooled and disconnect the unit before cleaning it.
  • Do not place the kettle under running water and do not immerse it in water (fig. 13).
  • Do not wash the kettle in the dishwasher.
  • Rinse the inside under running water and dry it.
  • Clean the outside of the kettle with a damp cloth and normal soap. Dry it with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Do not use sponges or soaps containing abrasive substances that could damage the surface finish of the kettle.
  • When finished with the cleaning, check that the connectors, plugs, and sockets are all perfectly dry.
  • Always wait until the kettle is completely dry before storing it.
  • To rewind the power cable, manually replace it in its housing without stretching excessively: it is normal for the cable not to enter the slot completely (fig. 14). Cleaning the power supply base
  • Do not place the power supply base under running water and do not immerse it in water (fig. 15).
  • Clean the power supply base with a damp cloth and normal soap. Dry it with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Do not use sponges or soaps containing abrasive substances that could damage the surface finish of the base.

Lime deposits

  • Lime (calcium carbonate) is a harmless, natural mineral found in water, and may form a thin deposit on the inner walls of the kettle, on the lime filter, and on the surface of the water. Lime is not harmful to your health but may give beverages an unpleasant taste. To extend the life of the kettle, remove the lime regularly by cleaning the kettle with a solution of water and vinegar. Pour the solution (50% water, 50% white vinegar) into the kettle, bring to boil, switch off the kettle and remove it from the power supply base.
Let the solution work for a few hours (all night is better). After the time has elapsed, pour out the solution and eliminate any remaining lime by rinsing several times (fig. 16). Then boil water a few times (using fresh water each time) to remove any aftertaste of the solution. You can also use specific lime-removal products. In this case, follow the instructions on the package.

ATTENTION!
Lime deposits may cause the kettle to overheat and shorten its life. It may also cause the automatic ON/OFF switch to trip, shutting off the kettle before the water has reached the boiling point.

Lime filter maintenance

  • The kettle has a lime filter that prevents lime particles formed in the kettle from being poured into beverages.
  • The filter can be removed (see paragraph: Before using for the first time) and washed in three ways:
    – Gently clean the filter under running water with a soft nylon brush.
    – Leave the filter in the kettle when you remove lime with the solution.
    – Wash the filter in the dishwasher.

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Problem
The kettle does not work correctly.

  • Probable cause
    – The voltage in your electrical system does not match the voltage specified on the bottom of the kettle and/or on the power supply base.
    – The kettle is not correctly placed on the power supply base.
    – The switch lever ON/OFF is not in position ON.
    – The kettle was switched on without water.
    – The kettle was switched on with the lid open.

  • Solution
    – Check that the voltage in your electrical system matches the voltage specified on the bottom of the kettle and/or on the power supply base.
    – Position the kettle correctly on the power supply base so that the power cable extends from the slot on the kettle.
    – Press the switch lever ON/OFF and bring it to position ON.
    – Pour cold water into the kettle, wait about one minute, and then start the heating cycle.
    – Keep the lid closed during use.

  • Problem
The kettle works erratically and switches off before reaching the boiling point.

  • Probable cause Lime has formed inside the kettle.

  • Solution Remove the lime (see paragraph: Lime deposits). Attention!: If the kettle continues to malfunction, take it to your Alessi dealer.
