Measure Your Cat
- A. Head Girth
- B. Neck Girth
- C. Chest Girth
- Measure your cat’s girth by snugly wrapping tape around its body against fur. Add 2 cm to this measurement for wearing comfort.
- Beyond that, your cat’s head girth should be larger than the minimum neck girth for each size, or your cat may slip out.
How to Introduce the New Harness to Your Cat
First of all, most felines need some time to get used to this new feeling of wearing a harness, so patience is a must.
- To allow your cat to get familiar with the harness, place it beside your cat’s food dish or the sleeping area for a few days.
- When putting on the harness, treat your cat with food or toys, so that your cat can form a positive association with it. Remember to keep praising your sensitive friend during the whole process.
- If your cat keeps showing uncomfortable or frustration, take the harness off and try again later. Never force your cat to wear the harness, because your cat may come to hate it or even get injured.
How to Put on the Harness
- Step 1: Release the two buckles and loosen the straps. We recommend that you loosen all straps first, then tighten them when put the harness on your pet.
- Step 2: Slip the neckpiece through your pet’s head. The logo “Dooradar” should be on your pet’s front chest, and the D-Ring should be up on the back.
- Step 3: Arrange the bottom straps between your pet’s two front legs, under the belly. After properly positioning the harness on your pet’s body, clasp the straps using the 2 side buckles. Be sure to buckle both sides up.
- Step 4: Adjust the 4 straps to make sure the harness is secure, but not too tight. You can slide the adjusters and pull/push the straps to create a snug fit for your pet.
- Step 5: Check the fitting using the 1-Finger Rule: You should be able to place one finger between the harness and any part of your pet’s body so that the harness doesn’t restrict movement.
How to Leash Train Your Cat
- First, hold the leash gently and start leash walking indoors. Avoid pulling or tugging on the leash, and let your cat lead the way.
- Once your cat is comfortable walking indoors on a leash, you can take them outdoors. Begin with quiet, familiar, and low-stress environments, such as a secure backyard or a quiet park.
- Try to gradually increase the distance of your outdoor walks. Be patient if your cat feels hesitant or anxious. Some cats may take longer time to adapt to leash training than others.
