Product Usage Instructions

Installation Guide
To ensure proper installation of the Power Step, please follow the steps below:

Attaching motor to linkage assembly
The motors need to be installed before continuing with the rest of the Power Step install.

Instructions:

  1. Position the gear cover in place as shown if not already in place.
  2. Seat motor into position on the three mounting bosses. This may require an adjustment of the gear by moving the swing arms.
  3. After seating into place, fasten the motor with the three motor mount screws with 4mm Hex Head. Tighten screws to 36 in-lbs (4N-m). Do not over torque.

Prepare brackets for install
Counting large oval sill holes from the front, remove covering (plug or tape) from the below indicated mounting points. QUAD CAB: 3rd and 7th from the front. MEGA CAB: 3rd and 8th from the front.

Attaching motor to the linkage assembly

CAUTION : HANDLE WITH CARE.
To ensure our customers receive all components with full integrity, we pack the motors separate from their linkage assemblies. This requires that the installer position and fasten the motor before continuing with the install. Please follow the instructions below and handle the assembly carefully.

CAUTION : Dropping the assembly or any excessive impact MAY cause damage to the motor.

Instructions:

  1. Position the gear cover in place as shown if not already in place.
  2. Seat the motor into position on the three mounting bosses. This may require an adjustment of the gear by moving the swing arms.
  3. After seating into place, fasten the motor with the three motor mount screws with 4mm Hex Head. Tighten screws to 36 in-lbs (4N-m). Do not over torque.

Note : Steps 1-8 shown on driver side. Repeat these steps on passenger side.

  1. Counting large oval sill holes from the front, remove covering (plug or tape) from the below indicated mounting points.

    • QUAD CAB : 3rd and 7th from the front.
    • MEGA CAB: 3rd and 8th from the front.
    • QUAD CAB : 3rd and 7th from the front.
    • MEGA CAB: 3rd and 7th from the front.
  2. Prepare brackets for install
    NOTE FOR MEGA CAB : Remove tape and cut as indicated for Mega Cab rear driver bracket if not already done.

  3. Install rear mounting bracket

  4. Fasten down rear mounting bracket

  5. After drilling apply paint to prevent rusting.

  6. The bracket must be flush with the sidewall before riveting.

    1. Repeat steps 2 thru 6 for front mounting bracket.
  7. DRIVER SIDE

  8. PASSENGER SIDE
    Install rear mounting bracket CAUTION : SWING IN IDLER ARM CAN CAUSE PINCH POINT

  9. Mount step extrusion to linkage assemblies. Fasten loosely to allow for adjustments.AMP-RESEARCH-75101-01A-Power-Step-fig- \(16\)

  10. Attach 11” cable ties loosely around harness.
    Attach wire harness to the control box. Slide controller through cable ties. Line up cable ties with grooves in controller and tighten.
    Note : Make sure controller connector locking tabs fully engage. AMP-

  11. Remove fuse from Power Step wire harness.

  12. Attach power leads, red lead to positive battery terminal and the black lead to body ground as shown.

  13. Route long leg of wire harness to passenger side across fire wall. Secure with tie wraps. AMP-RESEARCH-75101-01A-Power-Step-fig- \(20\)

      1. Remove plastic panel beneath steering column.
  15. Remove metal panel revealed by step 21. Model years 2002-2005 will not have this panel to remove.

  16. For 2006-2009 Models : Locate bundle of wires high and to the left of diecast steering column mount.
    Note : The bundle of wires leads toward the back of fuel gauge and is located directly above the bundle of wires grounded to the left panel. AMP-

  19. Model Years 2004- 2009AMP-RESEARCH-75101-01A-Power-Step-fig- \(31\) Note : You may find two VL/YL wires in bundle. Only one works correctly.
    Using supplied Posi-TapsTM splice the Power Step trigger wires into their corresponding door ajar wire. See steps 26 and 27 for wire colors.

  22. REINSTALL FUSE

  23. 2X BOTH SIDES

  24. On each side of the vehicle measure from the front edge of door line on the pinch weld to the specified lengths below. Measure at 26” for the front LED Light and 58” for the rear LED Light.

  25. Drill a 9/32” hole through the pinch weld at marked locations. Debur all holes.

  26. Insert grommet into drilled holes. Insert lamp wires through the grommets.

  27. Affix lamp to rocker panel surface. Make sure lamp is affixed to a flat, clean surface.

  28. Using supplied butt connectors, connect the lamp wires. Red to Red, Black to Black. Once Crimped use heat gun to shrink tube.

  29. Close and wrap with conduit and electrical tape. Secure all loose wires with cable ties, with lamp wires pulled upward to avoid any wire snagging.

  30. Reinstall fuse.

Check that all doors activate the Power Step and the LED Lights work when doors open and close. Reinstall any remaining trim panels. AMP-

FINAL SYSTEM CHECK
Check that all doors activate the PowerStep and the LED lights work when doors open and close.

NORMAL OPERATION:
When the doors open, PowerStep automatically deploys from under the vehicle. When the doors are closed, PowerStep will automatically return to the stowed/retracted position.

Note : There is a 2-second delay before the PowerStep returns to the stowed/retracted position.

CORRECT OPERATION OF LIGHTS:
All four lamps will illuminate upon opening any door of the vehicle. Lamps will stay on until restoring of both Power Steps or until 5 minutes has expired with the doors open. When the lights time out after 5 minutes, they can be illuminated by closing and opening any door of the vehicle.

Automatic power deploy:
The running boards will extend down and out when the doors are opened.

Automatic power stow:
The running boards will return to the stowed position when the doors are closed. There will be a 2-second delay before the running boards move to the stowed position.

Automatic stop:
If an object is in the way of the moving running board, the running board will automatically stop. To reset, clear any obstruction, then simply open and close the door to resume normal operation.

Manually set in the deployed (OUT) position for access to the roof:
Your foot while at the same time closing the door. To resume normal operation, open and close the door.

Maintenance

  • In adverse conditions, debris such as mud, dirt, and salt may become trapped in the running board mechanism, possibly leading to unwanted noise. If this occurs, manually set the running boards to
  • Avoid spraying the motors directly. After washing, apply silicone spray lubricant to the hinge pivot pins.
  • Do not apply silicone, wax or protectants like Armor All® to the running board stepping surface.

Caution! Keep hands away when the running board is in motion.

5-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY
AMP RESEARCH warrants this product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for FIVE (5) YEARS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE, provided there has been normal use and proper maintenance. This warranty applies to the original purchaser only. All remedies under this warranty are limited to the repair replacement of the product itself, or the repair or replacement of any component part thereof, found by the factory to be defective within the time period specified. The decision to repair or replace is wholly within the discretion of the manufacturer.

This warranty specifically excludes labor. If you have a warranty claim, first you must call our factory at the number below for instructions. You must retain proof of purchase and submit a copy with any items returned for warranty work. Upon completion of warranty work, if any, we will return the repaired or replaced item or items to you freight prepaid. Damage to our products caused by accidents, fire, vandalism, negligence, misinstallation, misuse, Acts of God, or by defective parts  not manufactured by us, is not covered under this warranty.
