GUIDED SUMMER TOURS UNCOVER THE HISTORY OF ALBANY’S FORMER BREWING DISTRICTS
Summer walking tours highlight Albany’s rich history and long-standing brewing legacy
ALBANY, N.Y. (June 30, 2022) – Discover Albany is hosting a series of guided walking tours this summer, highlighting Albany’s unique brewing history. Led by Craig Gravina, Albany Beer Historian and co-founder of Albany Ale Project, the tours will be held monthly from July to September. Tickets are now available online for just $15.
The tours are offered in three distinct neighborhoods in Albany, which was once the center of the North American beer industry. These tours shed light on the impact that beer and ale have had on Albany.
Historic Neighborhood Brew Tour schedule:

  • Thursday, July 7: Downtown Albany | 6 to 8 p.m.
Meet at Albany Pump Station, 19 Quackenbush Square, Albany

  • Thursday, Aug. 11: Center Square, Albany | 6 to 8 p.m.
Meet at the Lionheart Pub and Brewery, 448 Madison Avenue, Albany

  • Thursday, Sept. 8: Warehouse District, Albany | 6 to 8 p.m.
Meet at Nine Pin Ciderworks, 929 Broadway, Albany

“Beer and Albany go hand in hand. Brewing has been part of Albany’s history and culture since the earliest Dutch settlers, and by the 1800s the city had become one of North America’s most prolific brewing centers. Albany Ale could be found all over the Western Hemisphere!” says Gravina.
“We are so excited to bring our popular Neighborhood Brew Tours back to the community,” says Discover Albany Community Engagement Manager Maeve McEneny. “It’s such a joy to see our guests walk streets they’ve explored 100 times and watch their amazement when we uncover a history they never knew about.
And when we can do this while supporting our local businesses? Well, that’s even better!”
