* Please read the following in detail first before operation.

The safety precautions below should be followed and obeyed to prevent you and others from damage or injuries. If children are using the instrument, a guardian should clearly explain these precautions to them and ensure they are fully understood and obeyed. After reading this manual, please keep it for future reference.

  • Do not throw or swing the instrument when others are nearby. A mouthpiece or other part could fall and hit someone else.

  • Keep the valve oil etc., out of children’s mouths and do maintenance when children are absent. Keep small parts out of the reach of children.

  • Do not install the product near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus that produces heat. Do not store the instrument in any extreme conditions of temperature or humidity.

  • Do not clean the plated finish instrument with a corrosive solution, otherwise it will damage the smooth outer surface.

  • Do not place the instrument on an uneven surface or any other unstable place.

  • Do not modify the instrument to avoid repair impossible.

  • In terms of brass instruments with a plated finish, the color of the finish may change over time. However, it would not influence the instrument’s performance. Discoloration in its early stage can easily be removed with maintenance. (As discoloration progresses, it may be difficult to remove.)

Note: Since different models have different accessories, the exact details are subject to the product.

C. Take Your Trumpet
Before using, keep both hands clean and dry, then slowly open the packing bag and uncover the protective film on the trumpet. Do not use sharp or pointed objects on any parts, as this will tarnish the trumpet exterior.

• How to Assemble

2. Assemble your trumpet

A. Hold your trumpet
Carefully take your trumpet from the packing box and hold it as figure (1) shows.

figure (1)

Note: Make sure you’re holding the trumpet straight out in front of you. Do not place the bell face up to avoid the tuning slide loosing and the whole trumpet slipping.

B. Insert the mouthpiece
Insert the mouthpiece into the receiver and gently twist it into place.

• How to Tune Your Trumpet

Using the tuning slide to change the tune. (Note: Slide the main tuning slide in or out to tune the trumpet. Since changes in temperature can influence the pitch, blow some warm air into the instrument to warm it up before tuning.)

  1. Main Tuning Slide

(If the trumpet note is flat (it has a lower frequency), you need to sharpen it (increase the frequency) by pushing in the trumpet slide. If it is sharp, you need to flatten it by pulling the slide out.)

• After Playing

After playing, make sure that moisture or dirt is removed from the instrument using the method described below.

Note: Regarding the disassembly and maintenance of the spring trigger, please consult wind instrument technician.

  • Caring for valve slide

1. Press the piston that corresponds to the valve slide you want to clean and remove the slide.
* Holding the piston down when you remove the valve slide, otherwise air pressure in the pipe drops creating a suction that can cause poor piston function or damage to the inside of the pipe.

  1. 3rd Valve Slide
  2. 3rd Valve Slide Stopper Screw

2. Remove moisture from the slides and water key.

  • Valve slides are made of brass or nickel silver which is excellent at resisting corrosion. However, corrosion may appear if moisture is left in the instrument for an extended period.

    1. Main tuning slide
    2. Water key
    • Other maintenance

Apply a few drops of valve oil to the piston and move it up and down a few times, which ensures that the oil is evenly distributed around the entire valve. The piston should also be oiled before playing.

  • The valve oil is not included in the package.
  • Do not apply too much oil, and we suggest applying 2 or 3 drops of valve oil.

  1. Valve oil
  • Body maintenance

Gently wipe the surface of the instrument with a polishing cloth. The following products can be used if dirt or tarnish is obvious.

For lacquer finishes:
Polishing cloth + lacquer polish
For silver plate:
Silver cloth + silver polish

A silicone cloth can be used to polish the instrument and give your instrument a beautiful shine.

Maintenance

• For Weekly Care

A. Valve slide maintenance
1. Apply some slide grease to the main tuning slide, 2nd valve slide, and valve slides that are not equipped with a slide trigger. (For the instructions for removing the tuning slide, please refer to the above section – “After Playing”)

  • The slide grease is not provided in the product, please purchase it according to your need.

    1. Main Tuning Slide

2. Slide the main tuning slide back and forth a few times to distribute the grease evenly.

  1. Main Tuning Slide

3. Apply a small amount of tuning slide oil to the tuning slides on the first and third valves, which are equipped with the slide trigger.

  1. 3rd Valve Slide
  2. Tuning slide oil
  3. Apply here

B. Piston and valve casing maintenance

1. Remove the valve casing.

2. Wrap the cleaning rod with a cloth leaving no bare metal exposed since metal can result in damaged valve casings or pistons. Remove dirt from inside valve castings and pistons.

3. Carefully insert the piston into its corresponding valve casing.

  • Make sure that the numbers stamped on the piston and valve match and insert the piston straight into the valve casing with the number stamped on the piston facing the mouthpiece.

  • Do not rotate the piston in the valve casing. Insert the piston gently and straight into the valve casing.

    1. Number

4. Apply valve oil to the piston.

  • Do not apply too much oil, and we suggest applying 2 or 3 drops of valve oil.
  • Apply some rotor oil to the rotors on rotary trumpets and move the levers a few times.
  • The valve oil is not provided in the product, please purchase it according to your need.

  1. Valve oil

The piston is the most important part of the trumpet. Never handle the piston roughly or drop it to the ground. If the piston is damaged or dented, NEVER roughly return it to the valve casing, please contact the dealer to solve it.

• For Twice Yearly Care

A. Clean the instrument
1. Make up a detergent solution, consisting of 10-15 parts warm water (30°C-40°C) to 1 part detergent. Before putting the instrument into the detergent solution, remove the pistons, valve casing covers, and slide valves.

  • The detergent for the trumpet is not provided in the product, please purchase it according to your need. Detergent for brass instruments or simply soapy water.

  • Note that all the removed parts of the instrument (except for 3 valve pistons) should be soaked for 10 minutes or more.

    1. Warm water
    2. Detergent solution

2. Take the instrument from the detergent solution, then soak a flexible clean brush in the detergent solution and use it to wash the inside of the tube.

  1. Flexible cleaning brush

3. After removing the dirt, use clean water to wash off the detergent. Thoroughly dry the inside of the tube using gauze, after removing all moisture with gauze, apply oil and grease and reassemble the instrument.

B. Clean the mouthpiece
For the mouthpiece, place it in some warm, soapy water and use a mouthpiece brush to clean the inside. Then rinse the mouthpiece out with clean water.

  1. Mouthpiece
  2. Mouthpiece brush

C. Clean the valves
1. Use warm water and a few drops of dish soap to clean the bottom of the valve. Place the bottom side of the valves beneath the running water, and then apply soap to the bottom of the valve. Focus on cleaning out the small holes underneath the valves that line up with the slides rather than cleaning the entire valve. Rinse all soapy water from the valve holes.

  1. DISH SOAP

Note: Keep the top parts of your valves away from the water.
When cleaning trumpet valves, it’s important to keep the tops dry. Water will ruin the felt pads at the top of the valves, which will prevent them from aligning properly when you reassemble your trumpet.

2. Place your valves aside for air drying.

Note: Do not dry the valves by hand, since you might accidentally rub the damp cloth near the felt pads. Instead, place the valves aside on a soft towel for quick drying until you’re ready to reinsert them into your trumpet.

Troubleshooting
Problem Possible Reasons Solution
The pitch is too high or too low, and the pitch range is not correct.
  1. Main tuning slide is not set to the correct position.
  2. The mouthpiece does not fit the mouthpiece receiver.

|

  1. Adjust the main tuning slide to the correct position as needed.
  2. Select a matching mouthpiece.
  3. The correct mouth shape and airflow are crucial to the tone of the trumpet.

The pistons are sluggish or get stuck.|

  1. Use poor piston oil with too many impurities.
  2. Dirt has accumulated in the pistons and pistons appear oxidation rust.
  3. Spring is overused.

|

  1. Please use preferable piston oil.
  2. Clean the piston and the inside of the valve casing. If the piston is oxidized, the rust can be removed with a cleaning cloth and then apply some piston oil.
  3. Contact the after-sale service, or repair the spring at the local musical instrument store.

The valve slide is stuck and cannot be removed.|

  1. Without effective maintenance after playing.
  2. The parts are deformed due to collisions during transportation or use.

|

  1. Clean the slide with a cleaning cloth and then apply some valve oil.
  2. Regularly apply some valve oil to the slides.
  3. Do not store the instrument near any damp or corrosive gases.
  4. Carefully transport or use the instrument to avoid the deformation of parts.

No sound or the tone is not full and rich.|

  1. The holes in the piston are not aligned with the holes in the valve casing.
  2. There is air leakage in the water key or welding opening. Or too much water in the instrument.

|

  1. Make sure the number stamped on the piston matches the number stamped on the valve casing.
  2. Regularly check the spring and pad of the water key.
  3. Regularly get rid of moisture accumulated inside the instrument, especially note that the 3rd valve slide without water key.

The mouthpiece cannot be removed or got stuck.|

  1. The instrument was dropped or hit with the mouthpiece attached. Or tap the mouthpiece with force when installing.
  2. The instrument has been left for a long period with the mouthpiece inserted in the instrument when no playing.

|

  1. Stop tapping the mouthpiece with force and avoid collision when using it. Take off the mouthpiece for safekeeping when not playing.
