ONEPLUS Buds Z2 True Wireless Earbud Headphones
Product Information:
The OnePlus Buds are Bluetooth earphones designed for wireless audio playback and phone call functionality. They come with a charging box that also acts as a storage case for the earphones. The earphones have touch controls for various functions, including answering or hanging up calls, controlling music playback, and activating voice assistants. The earphones support Bluetooth pairing with compatible devices and can be customized to suit individual preferences. They also feature wearing detection, which automatically pauses and resumes music playback when the earphones are worn or taken off.
Product Usage Instructions:
Turn-on/Turn-off:
To turn on the earphones, open the charging box. The power level of the
earphones is indicated on the charging box. To turn off the earphones, close
the charging box for 5 seconds.
Bluetooth Pairing:
- When the earphones are turned on for the first time, they automatically enter the pairing status, and the indicator on the charging box blinks white rapidly.
- To pair the earphones with a device, enable Bluetooth on the device
- Note : Quick pairing is only supported on some OnePlus phone models.
Pairing a New Device:
- Press and hold the setup button on the charging box for 2 seconds. The indicator blinks white, and the earphones enter the pairable state.
- On the phone, disable and then enable Bluetooth to refresh the Bluetooth device list.
- Select “OnePlus Buds” from the device list to connect.
Ensure that the earphones are within range of your phone. If the earphones go out of range, they will lose Bluetooth connection. If they return within the range within 10 minutes, they will automatically reconnect to your phone. After 60 minutes, the automatic reconnection feature is no longer valid. If the earphones do not automatically reconnect, take them out of the charging box and place them back in or wear them to initiate a connection.
Call:
To answer or hang up a call, double-tap the touch area of the earphones.
Touch Controls:
Regardless of the earphones’ mode (master/slave), double-tapping the touch area will naturally trigger the next track. However, you can customize the touch function to perform actions such as previous track, play, pause, next track, or activate the voice assistant.
Sound Mode:
If you have customized a Dolby sound effect for the earphones, the customized sound effect will be automatically enabled after the phone identifies the earphones.
Restoring Factory Settings:
- Place the earphones into the charging box with the cover opened.
- Press and hold the setup button on the charging box for 10 seconds.
- Release the button after the indicator blinks red five times. The earphones will be restored to factory settings.
Wearing Detection:
When you wear one or both OnePlus Buds earphones to listen to music, the music will be paused when you take off any or both of them. It will resume playing when you wear them again.
Applicable Scope:
The instructions provided are applicable to OnePlus Buds Bluetooth earphones.
Connection Troubleshooting:
Failed to Discover or Identify Earphones:
Symptom: A phone cannot discover, identify, or connect to a pair of earphones.
Cause:
- The earphones are not in a pairable state.
- The earphones do not have sufficient power.
- Bluetooth parameters of the earphones are incorrectly configured.
Solution:
- A phone can only discover Bluetooth earphones in the pairable state.
- Ensure that the earphones have sufficient power. Open the charging box and check if the indicator is steadily on. If not, charge the earphones for a period using the charging cable and then open the charging box to reset the earphones.
- Open the charging box and press and hold the setup button on the charging box for 2 seconds. The indicator will blink, and the Bluetooth earphones will be in the pairable state. Search for the Bluetooth earphones on the phone and pair them.
Operations
Turn-on/Turn-off
To turn on the earphones, open the charging box. The indicator on the charging
box shows the power level of the earphones.
To turn off the earphones, close the charging box for 5s.
Bluetooth pairing
- When the earphones are turned on for the first time, they automatically enter the pairing status and the indicator on the charging box blinks white rapidly.
- To pair the earphones with a device, enable Bluetooth on the device.
- Quick pairing: Place the earphones close to an unlocked OnePlus phone. The phone displays a quick pairing prompt. Complete pairing as prompted.
- Common pairing: On the Bluetooth device list screen of the phone, select OnePlus Buds to pair. After successful pairing, the indicator is off.
*Only some OnePlus phone models support quick pairing.
Pairing a new device
Press and hold the setup button on the charging box for 2s. The indicator
blinks white, and the earphones enter the pairable state. On the phone,
disable and then enable Bluetooth to refresh the Bluetooth device list. Select
OnePlus Buds and connect.
Bluetooth connection and disconnection

Establishing a Bluetooth connection
Each time the earphones are turned on, they automatically connect to the last connected device. -
Disconnecting a Bluetooth connection
Disable Bluetooth on the connected phone.
Ensure that the earphones are within range of your phone. Once the earphones are out of range, they will lose Bluetooth connection. If they return within the range in 10 minutes, they will be automatically connected to your phone; otherwise, you need to take the earphones out of the charging box and then place them into the charging box or wear the earphones to re-initiate a connection. Such automatic reconnection is only valid in 60 minutes.
Call
To answer or hang up a call, double-tap the touch area of the earphones.
Touch
Despite whatever mode (master/slave) your earphones are in, you will naturally
trigger the next track when you double-tap the touch area of the earphones.
But you can customize the touch function to previous track, next track, play,
pause, or voice assistant.
Sound mode
If you have customized a Dolby sound effect for the earphones, the customized
sound effect is automatically enabled after the phone identifies the
earphones.
Find Headset
If you have already connected the earphones to your OnePlus phone, click the
phone’s notification drop-down menu and then click battery to enter Device
details and then Find device(or Settings-Bluetooth&device connection-
Bluetooth-OnePlus Buds seeting icon-find device/Settings-Google-Device
connections-Devices-Saved devices-find device). If the earphones are nearby,
you can hear the prompt played by the earphones. If the earphones are not
nearby, you can view their last position. (When the earphones are not
connected to the phone, click the last position displayed to view details.)
Restoring factory settings
- Place the earphones into the charging box with the cover opened.
- Press and hold the setup button on the charging box for 10s, and release the button after the indicator blinks red for five times. The earphones then are restored to factory settings.
Wearing detection
When you wear one or two OnePlus Buds earphones to listen to music, the music
will be paused when you take off any or both of them and resumed when you wear
it or them again.
Applicable Scope
Basic functions of OnePlus Buds earphones, including music, video, call,
touch, and long press of the earphones apply to third-party smartphones.
Detailed function adaptation is as follows:

connect the earphones to a non-OnePlus phone, perform the following steps:- On the phone, choose Settings > Bluetooth & device connection.
- Enable Bluetooth to search for Bluetooth devices.
- Select OnePlus Buds and tap Connect.

PC connection: If a PC has the Bluetooth function, OnePlus Buds earphones can connect to the PC. However, they can only be used as common earphones.
When the earphones are used to play games, latency exists.

Connection _ 1. Failed to discover or identify earphones

Symptom: A phone cannot discover, identify, or connect to a pair of earphones.

Cause:
- The earphones are not in the pairable state.
- The earphones do not have sufficient power.
- Bluetooth parameters of the earphones are incorrectly configured.

Solution:
A phone can only discover Bluetooth earphones in the pairable state.- Ensure that the earphones have sufficient power. Open the charging box and check whether the indicator is steady on. If the indicator is not steady on and the earphones cannot be turned on, insert the charging cable to charge the earphones for a period and open the charging box to reset the earphones.
- Open the charging box and press and hold the setup button on the charging box for 2s. The indicator blinks, and the Bluetooth earphones are in the pairable state. Search for the Bluetooth earphones in the phone to pair them.
- If the fault persists, restore the earphones to factory settings. (Place the earphones into the charging box with the cover opened. Connection _ 2. Failed to automatically connect to a phone
- Symptom: The earphones do not automatically connect to a phone even if the charging box is opened.
- Cause:
- The Bluetooth earphones may be affected by electromagnetic waves nearby and as a result may have no sound or disconnect from the phone.
- The phone you are attempting to pair with is not the one previously connected to the earphones.
- The phone is more than 10 m away from the earphones or there are obstacles between the earphones and phone.
- Bluetooth is disabled on the phone.
- Solution:
- Check whether your earphones are in an environment with strong interference. Keep your earphones away from objects with strong electromagnetic interference, such as microwave ovens.
- If the phone is not the last connected device, pair the phone with the earphones.
- Place the phone and earphones together to reconnect them.
- Enable Bluetooth on the phone, and close and open the charging box for the earphones.
If the fault persists, place the earphones into the charging box and close the cover. After 5s, open the cover to reconnect the earphones to the phone. Establishing a Bluetooth connection
- If you use a pair of earphones for the first time, place the earphones into the charging box with the cover opened. The earphones automatically enter the pairable state.

Automatic reconnection to a previously connected phone:
When you open the charging box, the earphones automatically reconnect to the previously connected device.
Notes:
- The phone must be within the transmission distance of the Bluetooth earphones and has Bluetooth enabled.
- The Bluetooth earphones may be affected by electromagnetic waves nearby and as a result may have no sound or disconnect from the phone.
Pairing a new device:

Connection _ 3. Found but failed to pair with the device

Symptom : The phone has found earphones but cannot pair with them.

Cause:
If the phone is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and uses Bluetooth to connect to the earphones, the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi share the same antenna and work in the same 2.4 GHz band. If the Wi-Fi transmission data volume is large, the Bluetooth connection may be interfered and become unstable. -
Solu tion:
- Disable Wi-Fi and reconnect to the Bluetooth earphones.
- Place the earphones into the charging box and close the cover. After 10s, open the cover, and press and hold the setup button on the charging box for 2s. The indicator blinks, and the earphones enter the pairable state. On the phone, search for and reconnect to the earphones.

What is the effective Bluetooth transmission distance?
Without obstacles or interference, the effective Bluetooth transmission
distance is about 10 m. Out of this range the earphones will disconnect. But
when the earphones are brought close to the phone, they will connect again.
Connection _ 4. Failed to automatically connect to a phone after the charging box is opened

Symptom :The earphones do not automatically connect to a phone even if the charging box is opened.

- The Bluetooth earphones may be affected by electromagnetic waves nearby and as a result may have no sound or disconnect from the phone.
- The phone you are attempting to pair with is not the one previously connected to the earphones.

- Symptom :The earphones cannot connect to non-OnePlus phones.
- Cause:
- The phone and earphones are not compatible with each other.
- The quick pairing function does not apply to phones of other brands.
- Solution:
- Some old models of other brands may have the adaptation issue. We recommend that you confirm with customer service personnel of the corresponding brand whether the phone Bluetooth version (5.0) matches the earphones.

Symptom :Earphones do not play sounds of music, video, and calls, though they ’re already connected with the phone.

Cause:
The Bluetooth connection is established, yet “Media audio” or “HD audio: AAC” is not checked. -
Solution:
Click “Settings” -> “Bluetooth”, find “OnePlus Buds”, and click the icon on the right to enable “Media audio” and “HD audio: AAC” after earphones are connected with the phone.- Disconnect and reconnect Bluetooth in “Bluetooth & device connection”, and this issue should be resolved.
- Turn off/on Bluetooth on the phone to allow an automatic reconnection, and this issue should be resolved.
- Put earphones back into the charging box, press the button for 2s to re-pair the Bluetooth, and this issue should be resolved. If none of the above works, please try restoring factory setting for earphones (put them into the charging box, open the cover, long press the setup button for 10s until the red indicator flashes for 5 times, then release the button). Sound/Audio _ 4. Users experience a sound delay when watching videos after earphones are connected with the phone
- Symptom :Audio and video are not synchronized, and there is a delay in sounds when users are watching videos after earphones are connected with the phone.
- Cause:
- Some player apps themselves need time to process data. For example, Tudou or Bilibili player naturally comes with a 100~200ms delay.
- Audio and video are already out of sync when those clips are poorly produced and published. You can disconnect earphones and play it on the phone to see if there is any problem with those clips themselves.
- Solution:
- Use other Bluetooth devices to check if the sound delay results from the software or clip itself. Please turn to Customer Service Center for assistance if the problem only occurs in OnePlus buds.
- If you experience sound delay in all players, music, and games under any scenarios, please try restoring factory setting for earphones (put them into the charging box, open the cover, long press the setup button for 10s until the red indicator flashes for 5 times, then release the button). Sound/Audio _ 5. Users experience sound delay when playing games after earphones are connected with the phone

Symptom :Audio and video are not synchronized, and there is a delay in sounds when users are playing games after earphones are connected with the phone.

Cause:
- Check if the phone is under game mode when you’re playing games, as that mode can trigger low-latency function for earphones.
- when the device is displaying screens and transmitting sound signal via Bluetooth simultaneously, there will be a delay between the audio signal and video signal for some games (Honor of Kings, Game for Peace, CrossFire, etc.) due to the nature of wireless technology, causing the sound to be out of sync with the screen.
Users may notice the delay at this time as game screens are displayed dynamically in real time, and the delay cannot be adjusted in advance.

Sound/Audio _ 6. No sound in one or two earphones during use
- Symptom : No sound in one or two earphones when making calls, listening to music or WeChat voice messages.
- Cause:
- Bluetooth is turned off as users touched Bluetooth switch on phone by accident.
- bluetooth earphones may become “dummy” when users are exposed to strong electromagnetic interference.
- Users have moved away from phone to a place that is beyond effective transmiss on of Bluetooth.
- Solution :
- Check whether the Bluetooth switch on phone is turned off; turn it on immediately to restore the connection if yes.
- Please keep away from microwave ovens, monitors and other objects with large electromagnetic interference when you’re using earphones.
- Please put the phone and earphones together, and try reconnecting them. If this issue is still unresolved, please put earphones into the box, cover the lid, wait for 5 seconds, then remove the lid and connect earphones again.
- If the issue cannot be resolved by above methods, please put earphones into the box, cover the lid, remove the lid, long press the pairing button for 2s, and re-pair the phone to restore sound after the light flashes continuously, indicating that earphones are in the pairable state. If none of the above works, please try restoring factory setting for earphones (put them into the charging box, open the cover, long press the setup button for 10s until the red indicator flashes for 5 times, then release the button). If the fault persists, we recommend that you return the product to the service center along with proof of purchase.
Sound/Audio _ 7. Poor sound effects/quality for games, music, and videos
- Symptom : Sound effects or sound quality is poor when users are playing games, listening to music, or watching videos.
- Cause :
- The A2DP protocol is activated when users are listening to music, or watching videos. Sound effect or sound quality of OnePlus Bluetooth earphones may not be as good as that of wired headphones, yet they could match that of rivals or other Bluetooth earphones.
- HFP call protocol, which features narrow audio bandwidth and slightly poor sound quality, will be activated by the app when users are playing games.
- Solution :
- Users are advised to try different earplug sizes and adjust the low volume to a suitable range;
- Please turn to Customer Service Center for assistance if there are obvious anomalies in sound quality after earphones are connected, and the difference is apparent when compared with earphones of the same type.
Sound/Audio _ 8. There is a difference in the volume heard in the left and right ears after earphones are connected
- Symptom :Volume heard in the left and right ears is inconsistent after earphones are connected.
- Cause:
- The left and right earphones can be used separately, so if you only use one earphone, its power will be lower;=
- when you put an earphone into the charging box, it will be charged and gain more power;
- When you’re making a long call, one of the earphones will activate noise reduction feature to make your voices sound more clearly. However, this costs the earphone more power.
- Solution:
- Try fully charging both earphones.
- Users may notice that the volume heard in one earphone is slightly louder as it will activate noise reduction feature when they’re making calls.
If none of the above works, please try restoring factory setting for earphones (put them into the charging box, open the cover, long press the setup button for 10s until the red indicator flashes for 5 times, then release the button).
Please turn to Customer Service Center for assistance if both earphones are fully charged yet the volume heard in them is still different in any circumstances.
Functionality Issues _ 1. Earphones do not respond to double clicks
- Symptom : Earphones are not responding when double clicked.
- Cause :
- Earphones are not double-clicked correctly in accordance with the instructions.
- Earphones are not closely fitted to ears as they’re not worn correctly.
- Earphones are not tapped continuously as the second click is too slow.
- The tap position is not ideal. The correct position should be heads of earphones.
- Solution:
- Follow the instructions to double click earphones in the correct position;
- Adjust the position of earphones or select a pair of earcaps in suitable size to ensure that earphones and earcaps fit closely;
- Quickly tap the upper area of earphones (especially heads of earphones) twice in a row.
- Reconnect Bluetooth earphones. If the fault persists, we recommend that you return the product to the service center along with proof of purchase.
Functionality Issues _ 2. Earphones will automatically pause when users are listening to music

The music will automatically pause when earphones detect that they’re not being worn as they’ve slipped off ear canals due to causes like small earcaps, movement, etc. -
Solution:
Put on the earphones again, start the music (by phone or a double-click on the right earphone), and select a pair of earcaps that suit you to make sure earphones and ears fit each other closely.
Functionality Issues _ 3. Music is still playing after earphones are removed

Symptom :Earphones are still playing the music, though they’re already removed.

Cause:
Sensing area of earphones may be covered after earphones are removed. At this time, earphones may consider that they’re still “in ears”, and will not pause the music. -
Solution:
It is recommended that you take off earphones by holding the handle to prevent such misjudgments.
Compatibility Issues _ 1. Sound is still heard on the phone after earphones are connected to an iPhone to answer calls

Symptom :Sound is heard on the phone, and earphones stay “dummy” after earphones are connected and users slide Answer button on phone.

Cause :
You need to select the answering method (phone or earphones) when you receive a call on iPhone. -
Solution :
- For incoming calls, you can double click earphones to answer the call through earphones, or manually select between the phone and earphones on iPhone.
- For outgoing calls, you can also select between the phone and earphones on iPhone. Earphones will be used by default if you don’t make a choice.
Compatibility Issues _ 2. Earphones stay “dummy” after they are connected to an iPhone to answer calls

By default, phone receiver will be used to answer calls on iPhone, so users need to manually select Bluetooth earphones if they want to use it. -

- For incoming calls, you can double-click earphones to answer the call through earphones, or manually select between the phone and earphones on iPhone.
- For outgoing calls, you can also select between the phone and earphones on iPhone. Earphones will be used by default if you don’t make a choice.
Issues Related to Charging _ 1. The indicator does not light up when charging box is being charged
- Symptom : The indicator does not light up when charging box is being charged.
- Cause:
- Charging box has run out of power as it’s not charged for a long time.
- There is something wrong with the indicator.
- Solution:
- Generally, the battery will be activated, and indicator will return to normal after the box is being charged for a while.
- Please try restoring factory setting for earphones: put them into the charging box, open the cover, long press the setup button for 10s until the red indicator flashes for 5 times, then release the button. Now connect the charger and see if the indicator returns to normal. If the fault persists, we recommend that you return the product to the service center along with proof of purchase.
Issues Related to Charging _ 2. Earphones cannot be charged
- Symptom : Earphones that run out of power cannot be charged after being put into the charging box.
- Cause :
- Earphones have not been used for a long time.
- charging box has run out of power (the indicator will flash red or not flash at all after the cover is removed).
- Solution :
- It is recommended that users charge earphones for a long time to have them activated if they have not been used for a long time.
- It is recommended that the charging box be charged.
If the fault persists, we recommend that you return the product to the service center along with proof of purchase.
Issues Related to Charging _ 3. Charging box won’t charge earphones
- Symptom : The charging box won’t charge earphones at all, or it only charges them occasionally.
- Cause:
- there is poor contact between the earphones and charging box.
- there is something wrong with the earphones or charging box.
- Solution:
- It is recommended that users take out earphones, and then put them back into charging box if such issues happen occasionally, as angle of earphones may not be correct when they’re placed in charging box.
- please turn to the Customer Service Center for assistance if charging box still won ’t charge earphones normally, though you take out earphones, and then put them back for several times.
