Filling with Water

Important: Your handheld steam cleaner features a water tank with a boiler system to create powerful, pressurized steam for cleaning and sanitizing.* To properly heat up and build pressure, the water tank MUST NOT BE OVERFILLLED. DO NOT FILL WITH MORE THAN 300 ml or 10 oz.

If overfilled, water replaces the air space in the tank required to heat up and build pressure. If this happens, you will experience the following:

  1.  Hot water will leak out of the vents on the safety cap.
  2. When the stream trigger is pressed, a stream of water will release out of the steam nozzle.
  3. Once the water is cleared, it will change to a spitting and sputtering steam/water mixture.
After the above steps have cycled through, proper steam will start to release out of the steam nozzle for optimal steam cleaning.

Note: Use of distilled water in place of tap water is recommended to prolong the life of your steamer. Do not use chemicals in the water tank of your machine. Other solutions may harm the machine and void the warranty.

  1. Push down on the safety cap while turning counter clockwise.
  2. Slowly pour 300 mL or 10 oz of water into the steamer. Do not overfill.
  3. Reattach the safety cap by pushing it down while turning clockwise until the cap is tightly secured. If cap is not tightly secured, steam will leak out of vents on cap.

Refilling Water During Use

Important: Your handheld steam cleaner features a water tank with a boiler system to create powerful, pressurized steam for cleaning and sanitizing.* For safety, the water tank MUST be depressurized before opening the safety cap to refill with water during use.

  1. Unplug your steam cleaner and wait 5 minutes.
  2. After 5 minutes, press the steam trigger to release all built-up pressure in the water tank. When steam is no longer present, all pressure has been released and the water tank is depressurized.
  3. If the safety cap is still hot, use an oven mitt to remove it. Follow steps 1 to 3 above to refill your tank. Be sure the safety cap is tightly secured before plugging it back in.Bissell-39N7-SteamShot-Hard-Surface-Steam-Cleaner-FIG-222Use as instructed. Results may vary. Tested under controlled laboratory conditions with accessory nozzle only.

WARNING Never put descaling, alcoholic, vinegar, or detergent products into the steam cleaner, as this may damage it or make it unsafe for use.

Steam Cleaning and Sanitizing

Your handheld steam cleaner was tested by third-party laboratories to ensure sanitization and elimination of 99.9% of germs and bacteria under controlled conditions. Please use as directed; your results may vary.

Before using your handheld steam cleaner, please note:

  • Do not use it on porous, hard surfaces.
  • Do not use on painted, plastic, or vinyl-covered surfaces, wax-polished furniture or floors, synthetic materials and fabrics, velvet, leather or other delicate, heat or steam-sensitive surfaces, materials or fabrics.
  • To sanitize, only use on non-porous, hard surfaces with the accessory nozzle.
  • Test on an inconspicuous area before first use on a surface. If a hard surface is affected, do not use the steam cleaner to clean it.
  • Thermal shock can shatter glass. Before cleaning cold glass surface, carefully warm the surface by directing the steam jet on the glass from a distance of no less than four to six inches.

  1. Plug into a properly grounded outlet.

  2. The steam indicator light will turn on and remain solid while the tank heats up to operating temperature.

  3. After 2 to 3 minutes, the tank will reach operating temperature and the indicator light will turn off.
Note: The indicator light will occasionally turn on and off while maintaining temperature as you clean.

  4. Optional: Attach tools and accessories. See page 5.

  5. Press the trigger to release steam.

  6. For general cleaning, apply steam within 3 inches of the surface.
To sanitize a hard, non-porous surface, apply steam directly above the surface for 45 seconds.
Note: If the steam nozzle is more than 3 inches from the surface, steam cleaning will be diminished.Bissell-39N7-SteamShot-Hard-Surface-Steam-

After-Cleaning Care

  1. Unplug from the grounded outlet. Wait 5 minutes for the machine to cool down.

  2. Press the steam trigger to release all built-up pressure in the water tank. When steam is no longer coming out of the steam nozzle all pressure has been released. The water tank is depressurized and the remaining water can be emptied. See
“Refilling Water During Use” (page 6) to safely depressurize the tank.
Note: Machine, tools, and safety cap may be hot.

  3. After 5 minutes, remove any tools and accessories. If you used the fabric steamer, be sure to remove the pad. It is recommended to hand wash the pad in warm water with liquid detergent. Do not use fabric softeners or bleach. Allow to air dry.Bissell-39N7-SteamShot-Hard-Surface-Steam-Cleaner-FIG-555
