Instructions for Combining Glass Replacement

Always wear eye protection. If the glass is broken do not handle with bare hands. To clean up small pieces of broken glass use a damp paper towel folded over several times to wipe into the trash and dispose of immediately. Small broken glass may also be picked up with a piece of tape folded to expose sticky surfaces.

  1. Place the work on a smooth flat surface that can be easily cleaned.
  2. Remove existing combining glass, if unbroken, by slightly spreading the holder to work lose the original adhesive then grasping with fingers and carefully pulling straight out of it. If the glass cannot be removed by hand, carefully take hold with pliers and pull it straight out of the slot.
  3. if the existing glass is broken, carefully remove any remaining pieces with pliers by grasping and pulling away from the slot. A small screwdriver, or similar tool, may be used to clear small pieces from the slot. Be sure to contain all pieces of glass in an area that can be easily cleaned.
  4. Slide the new combined glass into the siot with the black end oriented outwards. If t fits snugly and does not fall out if the instrument is inverted no further steps are necessary. The old adhesive does not need to be removed from the slot unless it interferes with the placement of the new combining glass.
  5. If the new combining glass is loose, remove it and run a small amount of adhesive (such as, silicone, abs cement or household cement) along the inside of slots on both sides of the instrument, slide the new glass back in place and allow adhesive to cure.
