Product Usage Instructions

Before starting the installation, it is important to compare the parts in the box with the bill of materials provided to ensure that all necessary parts are available.

Borla Performance Connecting Pipes Exhaust System Installation

  1. Orient components on the shop floor according to the Borla bill of materials drawing on page 2.
  2. Remove the clamp that holds the heat shield onto the driver side exhaust assembly.
  3. Make a mark and cut with a reciprocating saw 2″ from the beginning of the straight section behind the driver side muffler.
  4. Reinstall the driver side exhaust assembly using the original hardware and reconnect the O2 sensor.
  5. Place a clamp over the expanded end of the L/H Downpipe Assembly and insert the inlet into the cut driver side exhaust assembly. Insert the hanger into the original rubber isolator. The clamp will go over the heat shield. Do not tighten the clamp.

Caution!!! Never work on a hot exhaust system. Serious injury in the form of burns can result If the vehicle has been in use and the exhaust system is hot, allow vehicle to cool for at least 1 hour. Always wear eye protection when working under any vehicle.
Note: It is our recommendation that you use a hoist or hydraulic lift to facilitate the installation of your new Borla Performance Exhaust System.
Taking all under car safety precautions, lift the vehicle using a hoist or hydraulic lift. Once this has been done, you may begin the removal of your old exhaust system from your vehicle.
Note: Before removing the original exhaust system from your vehicle, please compare the parts you have received with the bill of materials provided on the previous page to assure that you have all the parts necessary for the installation of your new Borla Performance Exhaust System.
Note: With a used vehicle, we suggest a penetrating spray lubricant to be applied liberally to all exhaust fasteners and allowing a significant period of time for the chemical to lubricate the threads before attempting to disassemble.

Original Exhaust System Removal

Installation Instructions

  1. Lubricate all hangers, rubber isolators, bolts and nuts.
  2. Remove hardware that connects the y-pipe assembly to the rear section of the exhaust (Fig. 1). Keep original gasket to reuse for assembly.
  3. Remove hardware from the two flanges that connect the y-pipe to the vehicle (Fig. 2). Keep this hardware to reuse for assembly.
  4. Using a flathead screwdriver or a prybar, remove the y-pipe hanger from its rubber isolator and remove the y-pipe from the vehicle (Fig. 2).
  5. Unplug the O2 sensor and remove hardware from the flange that connects the driver side portion of the exhaust to the vehicle (Fig. 3). Keep this hardware to reuse for assembly.
  6. Using a flathead screwdriver or a prybar, remove the driver side portion of the exhaust hanger from its rubber isolator and remove assembly from vehicle (Fig. 2).
  7. Original exhaust system removed (Fig. 4).

  1. Orient components on shop floor according to Borla bill of materials drawing on.
  2. Remove clamp that holds the heat shield onto the driver side exhaust assembly (Fig. 5).
  3. Make a mark and cut with a reciprocating saw 2” from the beginning of the straight section behind the driver side muffler (Fig. 6).
  4. Reinstall driver side exhaust assembly using the original hardware and reconnect the O2 sensor (Fig. 7).
  5. Place a clamp over the expanded end of the L/H Downpipe Assembly and insert the inlet to the cut driver side exhaust assembly. Insert the hanger into the original rubber isolator (Fig. 8-9). Clamp will go over the heat shield. Do not tighten the clamp.
  6. Place a clamp over the expanded end of the Y-Pipe Assembly and inser t the inlet to the L/H Downpipe Assembly (Fig. 10). Do not tighten the clamp.
  7. Reinstall the original gasket onto the Y-Pipe Assembly and r otate so that the faces of both flanges meet up. Insert the hanger into the original rubber isolator (Figs. 11-12).
  8. Use provided hardware and reuse original hardware to loosely install both flanges into place (Figs. 12-13).
  9. Once position has been determined to be correct, tighten the Accuseal clamps to 32-35 ft. lbs. and tighten the original hardware (Fig. 14).
  10. Install Reflexwrap Heat Shield over pictured cable (Fig. 15).
  11. Install Heat Shield Assembly as pictured with the provided hardware (Fig. 16).
  12. Before starting your vehicle, make sure to check all wires, hoses, brake lines, body parts and tires for safe clearance from the exhaust system.
  13. Start the vehicle and check for any leaks. If any leaks are found, determine cause (such as loose fitting on the flange) and repair as necessary.

WARNING: Use extreme caution during installation.

  • Torque all fasteners according to manufacturer’s torque values and tightening sequence.
  • DO NOT use air impact tools to tighten fasteners on Borla Performance Exhaust Systems.
  • Use of such tools may result in bent flanges or gasket contact areas leading to exhaust leaks.

NOTE: When you first start your vehicle after the installation of your new Borla Performance Exhaust System, there may be some smoke and fumes coming from the system.

  • This is a protective oil based coating used in the manufacturing of mandrel bent performance exhaust tubing.
  • This is not a problem and will disappear within a very short period of time after the exhaust has reached normal operating temperatures.
